  1. A healthy Morneau would sure make things easier for Willingham. Might get another 35 homer season out of his bat. As for Sweeney, he'd make a good platoon bat with Mastroianni to start the season. Give Benson, Arcia and Hicks some triple A time.
  2. Joe Benson. Curious how he is feeling about his chances to win the CF job? How is physical health is after the many injuries last year?
  3. I just don't see it. He has no out pitch. Doesn't overpower anybody. I never see him transitioning into anything more then a AAAA pitcher at best. We have plenty of those types already. I'd take my chances with PJ Walters or Sam Deduno before I'd pencil this guy into the rotation.
  4. This just makes no sense. Why not just go with Deduno, DeVries or even Blackburn. Correia is very much like Blackburn. So 10 million this year for bad pitchers Blackburn and Correia. And another wasted 5 million next year.
  5. I'm not a Hannahan fan. But I guess the Pagliarulo-Leius platoon worked pretty well in 91, so maybe it would work again.
  6. Gleeman really needs to take a nap before these podcasts. Kinda Grouchy and Condescending.
  7. I like the trade. Twins aren't going to be competitive for a few years anyway. Looking at 2015: 1B-Parmalee 2B-Rosario SS-Santana 3B-Sano LF-Revere CF-Hicks RF-Arcia C-DH Maurer DH-Benson-Kepler. Rotation: Meyer-Gibson-Wimmers-Diamond, others in mix Hendriks-Hermsen-Berrios. Bullpen Arms: Perkins-Fien-Thielbar- Tonkin-Pugh-Robertson. This future team looks very appealing to me. Young, Talented, Athletic, Power, Speed. This is the fun part of Baseball. Looking ahead and projecting what the future might look like. The future looks bright in Minnesota a couple or 3 years from now.
  8. Have to agree with TwinsfaninSaudi that it appears the next chance for Twins competitiveness is 3 years down the road. I wanted to see the market first and hope that the Twins could get the quickfix done. But with the way things are shaking out, with the Cubs setting this market so high, it might be time to trade for high end prospects and hope it all that youth gels at the same time down the road. I'd sure miss Willingham and the prospect of him hitting one out. Sure fun to have that power threat in the lineup. But if your gonna lose 90+ games ya might as well sell high and bring in the kids.
  9. It is good to have you back! I like the analogy. I really don't expect much from the front office this off-season. At least nothing that makes us competitive. I think we will end up having to wait another 3 years until the young guys start filtering in to be competitive again.
  10. I'm Thankful the Twins have moved their Class A minor league team 30 minutes from my home. To a beautiful stadium that allows a fan friendly experience. Also thankful that the Twins have a great coach in Tommy Watkins who has great repoire with his players and the fans.
  11. Not interested in Maurer. Walker wouldn't be much help for 2 or 3 years. But would be a good pickup and add to our younger guys we drafted this year in the draft. I like Hultzen and Paxton alot and could help sooner. Wish we could package something that would bring us one of their young shortstops. Brad Miller of Nick Franklin.
  12. Posted by Old Nurse "Any potential signees on whole list of milb players that intrigue anyone with some knowledge?" I'd like to see the Twins sign Tony Abreu. He spent Sept with KC. Great Minor League Numbers and he plays 2B. From the Twins list, I'd like the Twins to keep Bromberg around for one more season. He had potential a couple years back and alot strikeouts.
  13. 1. Rod Carew 6. Justin Morneau 2. Tony Oliva 7. Kent Hrbek 3. Harmon Killebrew 8. Larry Hisle 4. Kirby Puckett 9. Chuck Knoblauch 5. Joe Mauer 10. Gary Gaetti I factored in "clutch". Who came through when you needed a hit. No one better then Rod Carew. Being old enough to see everyone on the list play, Rodney was greatest clutch hitter I have ever seen.
  14. Well if Terry Ryan is/was truly concerned upgrading the bullpen then why didn't he give Slama a chance in September? But I do like the idea if for no other reason then I do not trust Burnett, Robertson. I don't think Anthony Swarzak is very good either. But for some reason most bloggers think he is great. We certainly don't need to keep rotating washouts like Jeff Manship, Esmerling Vasquez, Luis Perdomo and Matt Maloneys of the world. I'd bring back Capps at a say 1.5 million before I wouldn't use a 40 man spot on another bunch of AAAA type pitchers.
  15. Thank God Manship will be looking elsewhere.
  16. I don't know how you can't take a chance on this guy if he is available. Delmon was a cancer? Not really. He was just annoying. As was Orlando Hudson. But Gardy can deal with that if he hits you .275 and plays D. Escobar would be a huge upgrade over Floriman or the other Escobar.
  17. Is Samuel Deduno a lock for the 2013 rotation?. . . . NOOOOO. At least I hope not.
  18. This is very good news to a Twins fan from Waterloo.
  19. How can Tony Oliva not be in the Hall of Fame? Only player to lead lg in hitting 1st 2 yrs in lg, 3 time Bat Champ, ROY64, 8 time AS,hits leader 5 times, dbls 4 times, 5 times hit 22+ HRs, and once each led league for runs scored, total bases, & SFs. Runnerup MVP twice and Lifetime .304 BA. I also saw him play. This guy was great. Made himself a great fielder with a cannon arm. He did enough. He should be in.
  20. A RP who can't even hit 89 on the radar gun? I guess we have different opinions on what is interesting. Funny thing is Jake Peavy was sitting right around 89 yesterday and baffled the Twins all day. His numbers say he is better then half of the Twins staff right now. Swarzak is a AAAA pitcher, Perdomo is AAA, Robertson AAA, Manship...is just Manship, bad. On and on. The Twins management, scouts etc are not always right. Brian Harper comes to mind. Kelly hated him. But he couldn't keep him out of the lineup cuz he just kept hitting....for 6 years at a .300 clip. At any rate, a look see for on a team about to lose 90+ games just makes sense. And the Twins blew it and pissed off their fan base.
  21. Outstanding article. Also glad to see so many Twins fans are well informed and know when a player gets the shaft like Slama did. We deserve better from the Twins after the lousy product they have put on the field the last two years. And Slama deserved better too after having an outstanding minor league career thus far. I wish him the best and hope he is picked up Via Rule 5. And I like Mike wants Wins will hope he makes Terry Ryan take notice everytime he pitches against us. This won't go away Mr. Ryan. We the fans have lost a great deal of respect for you.
  22. Sign me up. Rick Niedermann
  23. All we are asking as dedicated Twins fans, is when a guy throws the ball like Slama has at every level and isn't given a chance on a LOUSY, LOUSY team, management needs to tell us why! I am so furious at Terry Ryan right now. I hope he takes the interim tag off and retires. This Pohlad run crew got there stadium, lied about payroll and now will not even reward a kid that has done terrific in the minors. What a sham...what a shame.
  24. One other factor to consider is that George Spelius is President of the Midwest League and lives in Beloit. Certainly he is going to look out for the best interests of Beloit. Even thought their facilities are subpar and they have failed at efforts to remodel or rebuild in Beloit, he is still a powerbroker in the discussion.
  25. A Twins coach said he tweaked an ankle on Monday nights game. Wasn't impressed with Tomshaw. Topped out at 88. Jairo had a rought night. Picked off at 2nd, probably twice, as the umpire missed the 1st call and several balls got by him at catch that should of been dug out or blocked. Disappointing at bats for Nate Roberts who I was told the Twins are suddenly high on again.
