  1. Jurrjens was injured in 2012 and had a bad year. If you take out 2012 he's a career 3.40 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He'll be 27 in January. If he's healthy those are good numbers to go after.
  2. Why? Because he is one of us? (Grew up in Minn.?) I'd take a look at Jurgens.
  3. Interesting. Back in July I brought up the possibility of the Twins getting Hunter and here's what you said: twinsdaily.com/showthread.php?2370-Torii-Hunter-and-the-Twins-in-2013
  4. Detroit is a bigger media market with 1.3 million more potential viewers. Therefore they are able to get more money for their TV contract.
  5. That's a good point. However, there are plenty of posts that say things like, "a business owner [should] take money out of his pocket" or "Pohlad's aren't going to spend money on their baseball team", or "Illitch can spend all the money he wants", or "The Tigers owner spends some of his own money out of pocket to improve the team" or "Illitch uses cash flow from his food empire to fund his baseball team". All of these statements presume that pro sports owners find funding outside of their team's profits. They presume that owners are 'cheap' if they don't want to make personal loans to the team so the team can buy free agents. Would I like it if the Pohlad's loaned the Twins $200M with no expectation of getting paid back with the purpose being the acquisition of free agents with which to win a World Series? Yes, I'd love it. But I don't expect them to, nor do I expect any reasonable owner to do so.
  6. My point is that they are not gifting the money. They are making a loan with the expectation of getting paid back. Or they are getting shares of stock.
  7. You're speculating. Unless the Tigers and the Red Wings are legally under the same business entity there is a separation, "a corporate wall" between the two. Of course the Red Wings could loan money to the Tigers, but there would be an accounting and reporting of such on their tax returns. Same idea here. The Twins are a limited liability corporation and probably have no legal connection between the Pohlad's real estate businesses. If the Pohlad's want to loan the Twins money they could do so. Or if the Minnesota Twins LLC want to loan the real estate business money they could. You don't really think the Pohlad's take their profits from the Twins and deposit it into the real estate business bank account as if it were a gift, do you?
  8. So do you think Illitch simply wrote out a check from his personal (not Tigers) bank account and picked up Prince Fielder and Torii Hunter?
  9. So do you think the Pohlad's should simply write out a check from their personal (not Twins) bank account and pick up Zack Greinke and Josh Hamilton?
  10. Yes, and some people on this board thought he was worth $4 - $6 Million a year.
  11. It's pretty easy to make a prediction like he did and then if it comes true you look like a genius. When it doesn't come true you hope no one remembers. Thrylos has the third most posts to Twins Daily. He has opinions on just about everything. Sometimes I think he posts stuff just to pass the time. I'd say if people want to take him to the woodshed on this matter they are justified.
  12. This thread is filled with question begging. Leading off is "Nobody wants to come here". Following that is "but they would if the Twins paid them more." These are assumptions and there is no way to know if they are true or not. The Twins have retained their own players at a hometown discount (Gaetti, Hrbek) and have paid top dollar (Puckett, Mauer). Let's look at Josh Willingham. Josh Willingham's agent, Matt Sosnick, said Thursday to Jane Lee of MLB.com that he "got a good amount of calls last night and this morning" from potential suitors. Sosnick added Willingham is looking to secure a three-year deal and one preferably closer to his home in Florence, Alabama. [Nov. 4, 2011] As December played out Willingham had narrowed his choices to Colorado, Cleveland, and Minnesota. Looks to me like Denver and Cleveland is closer to Alabama than Minneapolis. So did the Twins outbid those other clubs? One day after the Twins signed Willingham to a 3 year, $21M contract Denver signed Cuddyer for 3 years, $30M. There is no way to know, but I would think the Rockies offered more than $21M for Willingham (if he indeed got an offer from them) yet he signed with the Twins. To summarize, there is no way to know if the premise of these statements are valid or not.
  13. Which of these two theories do you want to discuss?
  14. Monday - Revolution, NBC Tuesday - The Men Who Built America, History Wednesday - Guys with Kids, NBC Thursday - Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, CBS Friday - College Football Saturday - Pawn Stars, History Sunday - Bar Rescue, Spike; Sunday Night Football, NBC
  15. On a scale of 1 to 10 reading about potential trade ideas at this time of the year is about a 2 for me, so I feel your pain. The only thing less interesting to me is reading threads about who's going to be in the Twins starting lineup in 2015. Talk about a difficult guess and a waste of electrons.
  16. Do Twins fans boo Derek Jeter at Target Field? How long have Twins fans been booing Derek Jeter? I ask because I was at a Yankees game last year, August 19th, and Jeter was not booed that night.
  17. Catcher Raul Ibanez .312/.375/.486 Shortstop Alex Rodriguez .319/.379/.605
  18. I've got another one of Victorino but it won't upload. I also want to post the video of Randy Johnson destroying a pigeon that flew into the path of one of his fastballs but the quality of the video clips on the web is terrible.
  19. You're supposed to pick up the third base coach when you round second base, not admire your hit to the outfield!
  20. Ahhh...I see that now. Here's another one: http://i45.tinypic.com/4k9udw.gif

  22. Running 50 feet from your usual position and almost colliding with an outfielder is "ordinary effort?" From the rule: When it seems apparent that a batted ball will be an Infield Fly, the umpire shall immediately declare “Infield Fly” for the benefit of the runners. Now, if it was ordinary effort why did it take 6 seconds for the umpire to call it an infield fly?
  23. The pitcher, catcher and any outfielder who stations himself in the infield on the play shall be considered infielders for the purpose of this rule. It was not ordinary effort. The fact that the umpire did not call it until Kozma broke away was particularly galling. A badly botched call.
  24. Yes, they need to cut Mauer's wages into tiny bite sized pieces.
