  1. Trout's BABIP in 2011 with the Angels was .247. That had a lot to do with his numbers and it was easy to project that a guy who hits the ball as hard as he does wouldn't continue to have such a low of a BABIP, and that he'd see better results once that improved. Buxton's BABIP as a Twin is around .320ish between last year and this year? So if he can cut down on the strikeouts and put the ball in play more, that'd be a good thing, but his numbers can't be excused away by bad luck.
  2. IMO, going into the season, having a winning record and/or making the playoffs this year was a pipe dream anyway.
  3. For me, there's way more areas of concern to conclude the front office has failed :-)
  4. At this point, not only would I continue to play the kids, I'd call up even more.
  5. It's a good thing I didn't imply that :-)
  6. I was asking how long is long enough to evaluate whether a guy ranked so high as a prospect for so long should be considered a flop? I never said he was a flop, at all. Not once. I do think a guy as hyped as he is should be doing a little better though and I don't think it's out of line to think that that a prospect as highly touted as he is not look completely over-matched like he does. If he turns out to be just a serviceable 2-3 WAR player, that, to me, will be a disappointment.
  7. What grouping did I create exactly?
  8. No, I meant, did Torii's leadership only manifest itself in May of last year? Obviously he isn't on the team now, but that's not what I meant when I asked the question. As far as Dozier not being a leader because of his BA, Hunter was batting .154 after 8 games last year. Was he not a leader then? Was Hunter a leader in August of last year when he batted .130 for the month or when he batted .180 for the month of July. His April was ever so slightly above .200, maybe that's good enough, from a position that is offense focused like RF, to be a leader? What does one's BA need to be to be a leader?
  9. McCutchen was never a top 10 prospect, much less a #1 or #2 prospect.
  10. Not once have I said he's a flop. And I'm not sure how it could be considered trolling by simply asking how long one should expect a top 2 prospect over the last 3 years to either come close to his potential or be considered a flop? Also, what kind of player/level of play is acceptable for guy like him to not be considered a flop?
  11. Okay, serious question. What happens if he's well below all star level 2 years from now? Where should the cutoff be to expect performance from three time top 2 prospect?
  12. yeah, and then there was last year's offense. And defensively, he had a negative UZR last year. I like that he had a positive DRS, though.
  13. I'm not judging anyone. His offense is speaking for itself. And you're right, top prospects deserve to have higher expectations.
  14. honestly, I think phenomenal is stretching it to find a silver lining. He's been good, and he could end up being phenomenal. He's made 16 plays this year, that's it.
  15. It's not an issue necessarily, but he doesn't look close. And, to be honest, saying he's one of the best centerfielders in the game could be a stretch at this point as well, no. I mean if you can't judge a guy on 150 ABs, certainly you also can't judge a guy's defense in such a small sample size too right? It works both ways. He's done well, for sure, but there are a lot of quality defensive CFs.
  16. Yeah, not sure why it's such an issue to expect a top 2 prospect the last 3 years to be good enough to at least be a serviceable player. Comparing him to average prospects as a way to minimize the disappointing performance doesn't make sense. Being a very top kind of prospect naturally deserves higher expectations. Can't brag about how great of a prospect he is for years and then say, well lots of guy struggle. Not lots of guy were top 2 prospects in the game. Right now, just being a serviceable player would be fine, with hopeful greatness coming later. He's not close (other than defensively)
  17. I don't imagine it would be much if any difference. Even with Torii's leadership, we started off horribly last year too. We had one great month which was attributed to Hunter and this bad start makes it easy to continue the narrative that it was all about Hunter. What about the rest of the year? Did his leadership vanish? How much did his horrible second half contribute to missing the playoffs?
  18. And there are a million examples of young players who got demoted after their less than stellar first taste of baseball and never came back and/or never became any kind of player to remember. There's only one Trout (who's start gets compared to Buxton), there's only one Randy Johnson (compared to Meyer) and so on.
  19. Tim Laudner is still under the delusion this offense is a strong offense.
  20. That was Mauer's that ended with the double
  21. Charlie Brown, Lucy is holding the ball for you...
  22. Buxton just dove and landed hard on the dirt. He hasn't given up. :-)
