  1. It's about spirit/spark no matter how silly that sounds. Just looking at this team on paper, they should not be playing so poorly in so many facets of the game. Something else, besides poor talent, is sapping this team's focus, drive, determination et cetera, which I'll just call the mental aspect of the game/wanting and knowing how to win by individual success and team success. In your thread about getting rid of Gardy I said that I'm not up for change just for the sake of change because while we might see an immediate impact from even putting the ball boy at manager for a month, any success due to the change in manager would be fleeting. This is why I agree that I'd like so see changes, but not specific until I now who the replacements will be. Does anyone want Bill Smith back? That would be a change.... for the worse. It's tough to put your finger on real/common cause of the deflated attitude.
  2. Gardy calling out who's up: "Mauer, Willingham, Morneua!" -- Butera yells, "Sounds like runs!"
  3. That sentence needs to quoted... The best description of 95 percent of losing baseball teams. Can I use it and pretend its mine. Go for it RB, though some attribution would be nice.
  4. If there wasn't someone early in the season with that role, it surely doesn't matter now if there isn't. Though, if the team ever hopes to be successful in the future, they surely need a someone with that mentality who can also deliver on the field. It helps all the more if you have more than one of these players and one of them is your ace pitcher.
  5. Except that we've had stretches like this earlier in the season too. I agree that, in August when you are this far out, it's easy to lose the intensity, and the Twins have a tendency to do that, but it also feels like we are an engine running on bad gas - sometimes it runs smooth, and sometimes it sputters all too much. Indeed. When things are going poorly, it's easy and no surprise that other things begin to go poorly as well. Couple that datum with the time of the season and lack of meaningful games and you can get poorer at bats.
  6. So losing causes the hitting to go bad? That's it, then! Terry Ryan should go get some wins for the team, while he is acquiring starting pitching, and the hitting will surely follow suit. Yep. Good job, good synopsis.
  7. I really don't think our offense is this bad. I see this production and recent poor offensive production as a symptom of the bad pitching and a bad record -- and that attitude permeating and infusing the approach and mettle of our guys at the plate. It's just a giant marshmallow of blasé sticking to everything.
  8. Oh, Joe. Oh, no. No, no, no ,no....
  9. Guess we have to move plouffe back to the OF or 1B where throwing accuracy is less important. Come on guy.
  10. Without using a calculator, the answer comes to 67 - 95
  11. Announcer just said (for real): "Jeff Gray has done a nice job for the Twins."
  12. All depends on who's taking over. I never have nor ever will vote for change, just for change. I'd like to know the real alternatives before changing in order to know if it's progress. That said, in my head bounces several names whom I'm confident could get just as much or more success out of the current 25 men suiting up daily.
  13. 2 option years remain, but just put him back in the pen.
  14. MVP: Andrew McCutchen Cy Young: R. A Dickey Rookie of the Year: Todd Frazier Manager of the Year: Clint Hurdle
  15. There's no actual scroll bar, but I did try scrolling using my mouse function and it did scroll... though it's not very functional without the actual scroll bar because if I scroll too hard (mouse gesture on iMacs) it thinks I'm scrolling back to the previous web page. Having a wide screen and stretching the browser to include the whole spread sheet was best, but that's no longer an option they tell me.
  16. Here's the link to the video of these events: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120823&content_id=37231310&notebook_id=37240218&vkey=notebook_min&c_id=min
  17. Since you can't hit a pitcher in retaliation in the AL because of the DH, I'd like to have seen a Twins hitter have his bat slip while swinging, hurling it back at Oswalt. Probably could hit him and make it hurt. Send the message and plunk the guy who started it all. All with plausible deniability.
  18. I'm finding it more difficult to scan through the forums listings. The text color and background colors are too similar and the font seems smaller -- grayish on gray hues. Can you bring back some color, eps to links? Looking rather drab at this point and hard on the eyes. Sorry to keep nagging but I think others will agree.
  19. The New Twins Daily format is cutting off portions of this spreadsheet on the right.
  20. Magic? It's gone! Nope, it's still here.
  21. How about removing the "stalking ad" on the right outside the fixed browser size? I can shrink my browser (just to fit this new fixed size) to crop it out. But that's really annoying to do just for this site, just to block out this annoying ad, which apparently standard size monitors can't see anyway. A further downside to having a widescreen monitor.
  22. Is it possible to let users decide if they want the older layout (where the mobile option is available: bottom left drop down)? While the boarders and some buttons are crisper, the text is squeezed too much (between ads and tools) like a twitter page. For those of us who have wide screen monitors and like the freedom to spread the browser, not having the ability is a real drawback. Right now, I feel like I'm typing in a tiny box and distracted by an entire unbroken column of ads or the right... and beyond that border (beyond the set web page size) there are ads in the unused margins further to the right. That ad in the margin also is one that follows my up/down scroll. Great. 40% of my browser is ads with this one size fits all concretization. Please give the option to go back. I'll include screen captures if need be, but I think you know what I'm saying.
  23. So can Plouffesie field a position? That's just bad x2
