  1. Yeah, but the ball comes out of Drewsy's hand really well when throwing down to second. So, you know.
  2. In a perfect world it would be just that easy to jettison Correia.
  3. It's the chicken. Actuality is logically prior to potency.
  4. Is there a straighter, flatter fastball in the majors? Whatever, one million/one year. Do it... I guess... maybe.
  5. It would border on conspiracy theory that the Twins in spring training 2012 had determined to ruin Baker, not resign him the following offseason and refuse to acquire good pitching in his stead. That's also giving the Twins forethought way to much credit. Part of this scenario was probably Baker not wanting to entrust his livelihood to a medical staff and FO that was incompetent (in his mind at least -- maybe). I just think that when we saw the Twins not up their bid for their best pitcher since Santana, we should have know then (as many suspected) that TR's words about "getting a pretty darn good pitcher" were hollow. Concerning KC, there hasn't been much said since the Twins penned him. Not as if the Bucs lost an asset or anything to complain about. Kinda the complete opposite of losing Baker. I've been trying to tell people that Liriano's bathroom fall is probably a good thing for the team.
  6. The writing was on the wall concerning FA starting pitchers when the Twins failed to match the Cubs offer to Baker. Looking back now, the die was cast at that moment.
  7. Agreed. With the money available they certainly could have fielded a team that was capable of staying within 10 games through August. And with luck and injuries in the division, who knows. As is, this team will almost necessarily suck again this year, and that is not what was promised.

You won't and can't get it right. What good would come from arguing with someone like this? What good has it done?
  9. Why would I want to debate someone whose chosen to avoid the context of my post in response to another post supporting the notion that the Twins ought to have gotten some top-tier pitching and will be kicking themselves if they are somewhere around .500 and other teams, even the divined Tigers, have injuries which may make the Twins competitive. If your intent was serious debate you would have looked at the spirit/thrust of my comment and the post I was responding to -- it was that the Twins should have done more, and in such a typically weak division (yes, there are other teams beside the Tigers whom the Twins get to play) and with a much improved rotation and core players producing at a hight level -- that it's possible to be competitive. I'm well aware that the Tigers are currently a great deal better than the Twins. Let me try now. Are you saying that unless the Twins get Five Aces they can't be competitive? [[insert gratuitous snipe about pessimistic dolts]] If you wanted to have an honest and serious debate you might say: well, it was wrong to put your position into a false dilemma between being the biggest homer or completely ignorant. I'd say the rotation would have to be ranked _____ to be competitive. Let's see if you can manage that.
  10. You've skillfully maneuvered me into a corner. I am the biggest homer, ever. I've said up and down on the these boards how we should have given Correia a third year, that we should save the money on top-tier FA pitching and pocket it. That we'll actually be better in the long run by significantly reducing payroll, that Escobar, Mastro, and Carroll will be great up the middle, that I trust Terry Ryan's decisions and his refreshingly honest and candid interaction with fans, and that anyone who disagrees with me is a cynical boob. "We're gonna win Twins, we're gonna..." -- head in the sky, skipping and singing into the burned orange sunset.
  11. And give LeCroy the green light to steal.
  12. The fact that you think I'm a homer shows that your are illiterate on this board. Second, I'll stand by what I said and ask you to point out the crazy. The rotation was virtually dead last in every meaningful category last year. The Al central is one -- if not thee -- least competitive divisions in baseball. An average rotation, like those in the late 2000s, instantly makes this team much better and competitive in the central. So crazy.
  13. I get it now, TR has envisioned KC to close games. No track record there or stats in that role, and contact that fits the role.
  14. Guy has got to be better. He's had the entire year and offseason to work on one defensive position now (so the defensive must get better), and as long as the thumb is healed, I think he can OPS ~.775 just by bring is BA up to .250-.260, which is where I think he'll be while hitting fewer HRs.
  15. Agreed. There are holes on every AL Central teams, and the season is long and injury exposed for all teams. The greatest causes of the last two horrible seasons were twofold. One, the absence or poor performance (due to injury) to the core players in Mauer and Morneau; and two, injury and/or piss poor performance from the pitching rotation. Now, with Mauer and Morneau back and playing well (fingers crossed), that leaves the rotation as the major source of why the team loses a lot of games again. Fix the damn rotation to an about average rotation and you've got a contender in the AL central at least. Of course there are other problems and holes that need to be addressed, but just fixing these two major problems makes this team watchable again and perhaps even contending into September.
  16. What happened to the rest of these polls?
  17. Does anyone know whether there is a rule against moving the fences game-to-game? A home grounds crew might cut the grass shorter or leave it longer depending on the home and away player's ability to bunt, and hit ground balls... so would this be any different really? Not a suggestion, but just curious if there is rule?
  18. Nope not you. Many on here will know to whom I refer, and remember well. Sorry this was not clear. Edit: What? Don't change the heading! There's nothing in there that's offensive. Don't self-censor.
  19. Tongue-in-cheek only to expose and ridicule race-baiting and hypocrisy. Don't want to hijack the thread beyond this.
  20. Same poster who creates threads claiming the Twins brass are racist in their signings and Dick Bremer racist for saying Delmon Young was once property of the Twins, now says the Twins are hicks. Isn't that derogatory for poor, white, rural people? Wow, that's racist. Am I offended? No. But then again, I'm not real good at race-baiting.
  21. Actual moves: D Public relations (integrity): F
  22. I don't follow the minors as much as many others here, but from what I understand Benson had been progressing very well up until last year, and the huge setback was a surprise but perhaps due to lingering injuries. So, if that is true, he may bounce back nicely this year. We shall see.
  23. Clean yes/no bet this year: Butera will make an appearance as a pitcher this season. I'll say no, but not a firm no.
