  1. I'll remember that day of March 21 for a long time. It was one of the only times I agreed with Jim Souhan. Jim and Phil Mackey were discussing this topic on Wednesday's Ruesse & Mackey show and they brought up Young's 2010 season. How can one reasonably argue that a coach who was around for a great year and a terrible year get only the blame for the bad year but none of the credit for a great year? I have no idea how to grade a hitting coach. If Joe Vavra good or bad? I don't know. Players have had terrible years with him on the Twins staff, but guys have also had OUTSTANDING years. To me, the player needs to take responsibility. It should be up to the player to determine how to stand and swing - and I believe it ultimately is.
  2. The only one I liked was with TK and the Indians fan.
  3. Various articles mention that he is not an instructor any longer, presumably due to the allegations.
  4. Very glad they did not try to keep him in the system.
  5. Just what we need!
  6. I just had to look, if you include his DET numbers, Young's ISO for 2011 skyrockets to .125 (from .092 as a Twin in 2011). James is right, there is only so much you can do in 40 games.
  7. This is a really interesting approach. I like where you are going with it. Plus having the data to back up a claim is much better than guessing. One thing I would be worried about would be a 'downtown effect' where the buildings create a tunnel for the wind that is a different direction than out at the airport. Do you think that is possible?
  8. Are you feeling ok Jack? There is a shred of positivity in one of those sentences.
  9. This is something I had not considered and made me really sad thinking about it.
  10. http://www.hittrackeronline.com Edit: Its by season, not by career.
  11. Doooooooo ittttttttt!!!!!!!!
  12. Liriano - I can see him bouncing back and getting everyone on his side again, just to turn around an disappoint in 2013. Seems to be his M.O.
  13. Touche I think ND and SD would be challenged to find a league to compete in. Eastern IA and Southern WI works because there are other teams to compete with a bus ride away. Additionally, an existing franchise would have to give up their affiliation or move. I don't know if cities try to hold on to minor league teams like they do major league franchises. This is a decent list and map (wiki).
  14. 2wins87, thanks for bringing a dose of reality - you were able to bring up a lot of points I was not able to articulate when I read the thread just after waking up this morning. I certainly agree with your point about a large market - over a million in a team's market is great. Central NY decidedly Yankee territory in my opinion (I spent 4 years at school in Ithaca, NY - 90 miles from ROC). One quibble - according to wiki "The Red Wings were an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals for 32 years (1929–1960), then spent 42 years (1961–2002) as a farm club of the Baltimore Orioles before moving on to the Twins in 2003." I would not say this is "a number of affiliation changes" - certainly not recently. Do we think the franchise would give up the Twins after only 10 years? One additional point to think of when we are considering other potential cities - Delta has multiple flights between MSP and ROC (usually with a layover in Detroit), that has to be worth something to have players just a short flight away.
  15. I've been to Rochester a couple of times to visit friends. It is a larger place than you might think. In the 'metro area' there are over a million people. MN doesn't have anything like that outside of MSP. If there is to be a change I could see clubs swapping cities. I know Buffalo, NY swapped Indians for Mets starting in 2009. That seems to happen all the time, you just have to see what other club has a contract up at the same time as the Twins. I have tried to look for this online for a couple of cities but can't seem to find the info. Rochester isn't a bad city, I think when the product on the field is bad it makes it hard to get the family together to go watch that. Like the St Paul Saints. The stadium is pretty nice and they had a fun atmosphere when I was at a game there last summer. The city is also a little depressed due to Kodak's troubles. But they have other large employers and universities. The city should be able to support a club.
  16. Analysts not analyzing and giving away doubles like they are BB&B coupons - excellent! Thank you for a the analysis - I agree with much of it. And you're right, it is spring lets imagine that one or two of those points will come to fruition.
  17. I would actually be very interested in seeing these questions come up. I would imagine there would be a benefit to many of us thinking about the basics of baseball on a more fundamental level. i.e Why would that be a good strategy, in what situations, etc.
  18. Not trying to discount the issues you have had. I have not experienced that issue - I logged in once (at the top right of the page) and have stayed logged in for days.
  19. 20 game pack (package F this year) - In section 203. I started in 2010, in section 304. I started in 2010, not only because of Target Field, but because I was finally at a point in my life where I could afford it and I knew that walk up purchasing would be challenging.
  20. I'll bite on this one - During the time you mention (03-07) The Twins actually took care of business in the AL East pretty well as a group (.556 winning percentage). As John notes, the Yankees have given the Twins the trouble (.313 winning percentage). The only other team the good guys had a losing record against was the Blue Jays (.486) - and they have not sniffed the post season since '93 when they won it all. I agree - it is quite frustrating that our beloved team finds a way to lose against the Yankees - be it mediocre pitching or fundamental errors (base running!). I would disagree with John, I don't think Minnesotans are insecure, I think that most of us are pretty frustrated with the team's performance when there have been times when the Twins were legitimately doing better than the Yankees yet they still found a way to be on the bottom of the series.
  21. Time machine: Polo Grounds to see that outfield. Reality: AT&T, Wrigley, Camden, Citizens Bank, Minute Maid
  22. i'm taking the Twins, a small bump up from last year, but not contenders. KC pitching is suspect and in Chicago everything is suspect.
  23. I'd say amateur is taking it a bit far. I'm not trying to speak for the Twinscentric guys, but... I'd guess that the guys are open to the constructive comments you suggested such as displaying the author in an RSS feed. As the site is getting off the ground, let's be sure to mention these important items to them and give them the time to investigate and improve. If it is a setting or some other fix, they will probably be open to the changes. As we all see things to improve the site, let's mention them so they can get fixed up.
  24. Anyone have mlb.tv? I am subject to the backouts for twins games but want to check out out of market games. Was wondering about quality and features - is it as good as MLB makes it sound?
