For me its floor & ceiling. A guy like Slegers has a high floor, so I would move him up the prospect rankings. But his ceiling is probably #5 pitcher for a few months. Its the same idea where a guy like Mejía was a top 10-15 prospect last year. His ceiling is probably a #4 but he was so close to the MLB team his floor was high so he got ranked higher.

Hmmm Scratching my head over this...Aaron Slegers at 34? I agree he isn't much of a prospect but for me, his proximity to the MLB team moves him up 10 spots or so.

Article: Ranking The Rule 5 Options
clutterheart replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Agree on all counts except I would also protect Stewart. Some team would probably take a chance on a guy like Stewart. Its easier to stash/hide a pitcher on a 25 man roster than a position player, especially hitters who don't play a premium position.- 59 replies

I would be shocked if May is in the starting rotation with any regularity this year - especially at the start of the year. No matter how he looks in spring, keep it simple and plan for May to start in the minors on a rehab assignment, and see how it goes. An organization that plans for a pitcher to effective 12 months after TJ surgery is a stupid organization.

If this is true, I can't see how Gordon is the top prospect - and could fall out of the top 4. Modern day second basemen need to hit and hit with power. He doesn't have the bat to play MLB second base....and those strike out numbers are scary. If you think he can't stick at SS, he should plummet down the rankings

Hard to believe that Cabbage won't turn 21 until May of next year. It seems like he has been around for a long time. He hasn't hit that well, but he is still young enough to capture that upside and get back on track.

I would love Dozier to stay on, but I wouldn't hate him signed for anything too much longer than 2021 or 2022. Unless things go drastically wrong by 2022 the next "wave" of prospects should be ready. One of Marte, Lewis, Javier, Miranda, Arraez, Palacios, Bechtold , Blankenhorn, or Del La Torre will be ready to take the MI helm and will hopefully push guys like Gordon, Polanco, and Dozier out. The FO needs to keep contracts of guys like Dozier short, while focusing on guys like Buxton, Sano, Rosario, Kepler, Berrios, Romero (hopefully), Gonsalves (Hopefully) & May (hopefully)

I get why everyone voted Buxton based on his amazing 2nd half. He carried the team into the playoffs. But I I would've gone: Rosario Mauer Buxton -

I am not sure who they should've sent that they didn't? Rooker, Gonsalves, & Romero need the time off, most of high upside the relievers have been there before, are with the Twins or injured...what could have been "better" regarding the roster?- 28 replies

Article: Twins 2017 Minor League Hitter Of The Year
clutterheart replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Lamonte Wade starts hitting for power he will become a star. At mid-point this year, I was ready to dump Rosario and put him in the 2018 MLB lineup. That was premature. But hopefully he can start turning those doubles into HR's, I love the walks though.- 43 replies

Why is he the easy choice? What about his season stands out? (please don't say "wins") His numbers are OK, but nothing eye popping. He seems pretty "pitch to contacty," but his SO numbers are not high enough to make up for it. From my eye he plays with fire by letting on a lot of baserunners and MLB batters will make him pay for that. He had a nice season and deserves to stay on the 40 man and maybe he could take over the #5 spot if its open, but nothing about his numbers scream "great year" to me.

It would be fun if the winners got a $20 Twins Daily Chipotle Gift certificate or something. According to Twitter most of these guys like that place.

Twins 2017 Short Season Hitter Of The Year

Yeah, thats a head scratcher. Contrarians sometimes have an interesting point of view but saying JC Arias had the best year of all Short Season hitters is ridiculous- 6 replies

Twins 2017 Short Season Pitcher Of The Year
clutterheart replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think you could've considered DSL guys as "Short Season" If so, Michael Montero might be #2 on this list. As a 17 year old, he out pitched most of these guys. 58 IP, 64 SO, 12 BB, 2.78 ERA & 0.96 WHIP. Nice season for him, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do next year.- 10 replies

Twins 2017 Short Season Pitcher Of The Year
clutterheart replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Any info on Moran's current pitches? His draft profile called him a "crafty LH pitcher with lots of projection." Is he above 90? How is his breaking pitches? Do you think Enlow will pitch Winterball anywhere?- 10 replies

Its hard to vote against a guy with 0 runs. But I would've voted for Jovani Moran 23 Strike outs in 10 innings?!? For the year he is at 45 SO in just 24 innings, with only 6 walks?!?!? And only 12 hits?!?! What a season! Poking around the internet, looks like he was a HS'er drafted with low 90's FB, good movement and a halfway decent breaking pitch. i am looking forward to what he can do in full season ball next year

Where do you see those run times? Again, I only have draft profiles to look at, and they all say "good speed" athletic, "up the middle type player" You are the one who said "Tweener" and that is very different than anything I have read on the kid so I am just wondering where that comes from. Very few of us have ever seen these guys play so all we have is stat lines and reports. If you have some other info, god I would love to read it.

Tweener? Where does that come from? I don't think I have seen that anywhere. Based off pre draft profiles he has the speed and athleticism for CF. I haven't read a thing about his arm but I assume it's ok. Since 2016 he has only incurred 2 errors playing mostly CF (low minor fielding stats are not significant but still 2 is pretty low.). He is slugging .520 for the year and he just turned 19 so even if he does move to the corner I think his bat might profile there. I'd like to see him steal more bases because if he keeps that SO/BB he could be a nice lead off bat. I dunno. It's early in his career so who knows. But today he is looking like a future star not a tweener.
