Akil Baddoo just turned 19 a few days ago. Through 43 games has just 26 BB and 27 SO with a .494 slugging %. That pretty good. He has been surging with a Monster Aug. What a fun player!

I get why they would do that with filler type guys but not sure why they would do this with actual prospects. Some kind of message sending?

And his OB% is about .489 ish. If a guy strikes out a lot and doesn't get on base, its a problem. But if he is getting on base at a good clip, I can live with the strike outs. (but if he figures out how to cut down his swing on Strike 2 and started getting baehits, he could be a great one) What I am interested in is how he is striking out. If he is only hitting Fastballs out of the park, while flailing away at breaking stuff its a big concern.

So far Rooker gets on base at a better rate, has a better eye and has a better ISO.

Article: Looking Back: Recent Twins Drafts
clutterheart replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
2016 Draft remains my fav. I just love the moonshots they took on all the high risk/high reward HS kids. Its doubtful anyone from that draft will be in the mix for the 25 man roster until at least 2020. But that will be a fun to group to follow as they move up. Based off their ages, the '16 draft will go a long way in determining if the MLB team is competitive in the 2021-2025 years. (But I am very disappointed none of these kids will be playing an all-star game on Mars in 2025)- 27 replies

Agree. Its a great use of Dollars. There is a lot I like about the whole 2016 draft. Lots of high upside HS'ers taken and so far so good

That's an odd comment regarding Baddoo. Care to expand? From my reading of his stat line, I would think that strike zone control is one thing he excels at. But I have never seen him play so I am wondering why you would say that?

I like that Lewis was promoted. I wish other guys followed him. Guys likeJose Miranda, Jean Carlos Arias or Akil Baddoo. Cedar Rapids has a pretty bad lineup and it would've been fun to see a team full of high talent teenagers.

Wander's usage has been weird all year. In July he rarely played 2 games in a row and then he was out for a few days. Not sure if they are being very careful with him or if he has something bothering him Graterol went from unhitable in the GCL to very hitable in the Appy League. Strangely he is getting a lot more ground outs since his promotion. But its only been 3 games and this is first year back from TJ. So really its about getting used to pitching again and getting his innings. If the team goes far in the playoffs he really only has 4-5 more starts.

Garver vs Giménez Their Minor League paths look very similar. Garver is having a better Age 26 season compared to Giménez but otherwise Giménez looks to be a superiour hitter, Offensively, I don't see a huge difference between these two. Giménez Age 26 - AAA - .235 .323 .426 (only 39 games, he was called up mid season) Age 25 AA & AAA - 304 .421 .452 Age 24 .A+ and AA - 264 .373 .526 Garver: Age 26 AAA - 282 .382 .527 Age 25 AA - .270 .342 .422 Age 24 A+- .245 .356 .333 Their fielding % are basically the same Their CS% (through full seasons) are similar Through full Minor League Season, Giménez was the superior hitter. I am not sure why people are expecting greater things from Garver than what the team is getting from Giménez. - Especially if the team is happy with the way Giménez calls a game.

Good call on Montero. I've been watching his stat line too. 17 year olds who strike out a guy an inning are worth watching - I don't care what league they are in.

Gabriel Moya's July was better than all of these guys: 10.2 IP 19 SO 1 BB and 0.75 whip & 0 earned runs And I think he is younger than everyone in the top 6 on your list. Looking for him to be one of the first call ups and see if his domination is real.

Kerby Camacho is still only 19? I've been seeing his good production but just assumed he was an older guy who was caught using PED's and now he is just being used in the low levels to catch. Hopefully he is now clean and his production is legit.

Article: Rule 5 Addition Discussion
clutterheart replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lewin Diaz - I don't know if a team would stash him on the 25 man roster for a full season. If the roster is full, I would expect that he gets left off and the team gambles he is not taken. Burdi - If taken he has to spend 90 days on the active roster. The braves, knew about the TJ surgery, and looked at his other medicals and passed. He is another guy who I might gamble and leave off. I hope the Twins bring up Moya, Bard, Curtis & Reed this year so we might know their status before the offseason starts.- 93 replies

Despite a nice June, Blankenhorn's prospect status is starting to tank. .235/.337/.404 with 101 strikeouts. yikes! He turns 21 in a few days so quickly the "he's young" explanation is fading. Andrew Bechtold is only 4 months older and hitting the snot out of the ball at E-Town. I think he should be sent up to Cedar Rapids post haste. This will move Blankenhorn to 2B and there is a huge wave of Middle infielders in the rookie leagues that is looking to overtake him.

Agree, and right behind them are guys who also could be at CR sometime next year, guys like Jean Carlos Arias, Lewis, & De La Torre with Marte behind them. The development staff is going to have to make positional switches in the future, but for now that group has some fun bats to watch.

I love the "live" report. Thanks so much as most of us only have a few videos and stat lines. I am willing to give Thorpe some slack. He basically went 3 years without pitching due to various injuries. This year is not really about results but more about staying healthy and putting in innings. Next year he probably will start at the FSL league again and hopefully he will have his instincts back.

Of course. Thats whats makes watching prospects fun. But until the last month or so, there has been no reason to think Slegers will be that guy. Until recently he has given up too many hits and too many walks.

Because he hasn't been "discussion worthy" throughout his career. I have never read about scouts talk about his pitches and up until recently, he hasn't struck out many guys, he gave up too many hits and walked too many people. That being said, he is on the young side compared to his competition and he is having a good July. If this continues, he could be "in the discussion." But you have to judge a guy by his body of work, not just the last month. He could get "the call" over more deserving guys like Gonsalves and he could have a few decent starts. But over his MLB career I wouldn't expect anything more than a 5th starter for 1 or 2 seasons. Though I would be interested in seeing if he could be in the bullpen mix.
