  1. Byron Buxton is still bailing with his lead hip, rather than keeping it forward and letting the rear hip rotate through. If you see the lead hip move back even a little bit, even as the rear hip rotates forward, it takes away your reach and most of your power. What's remarkable is that Buxton still was able to hit a home run with that power-sapping hip action. I think this is why Buxton should return to the high leg kick. You can't pull back the lead hip when your lead foot is in the air and you're loading up to drive forward into the pitch. That happens only when both feet are planted, and you pivot the front foot and rear heel backwards. It's not what I dubbed the "French Mistake" that Hicks used to do, but it's almost as bad. The solution for both is the leg kick.
  2. Stephen Gonsalves suddenly puts himself into the conversation for a September cuppa Joe.
  3. I don't see much reason to keep Wilk around. Better options in AAA, especially Slegers and Hildenberger, depending if you want a starter or a reliever. Since Wilk is making room for Mejia, the Twins might need to reconsider one of their veteran relievers, like Belisle or Breslow.
  4. Lefties only for Breslow? Molitor's choices are a bit puzzling. When a guy looks good, leave him in! Especially with Pressly, when he's on, his stuff gets a lot of whiffs.
  5. The word, "discombobulated" comes to mind. Archer's mechanics are falling apart. Odd.
  6. Santiago's ceiling is about one foot above his floor, and that's in the mezzanine.
  7. What?? Just when Pressly gets his command, you yank him? Paul, that's over-managing. Match-ups don't matter when Pressly is on.
  8. I see what's keeping Pressley's fastballs straight. He strides on a straight line towards home and throws straight overhand. To create movement, he needs to stride to the right of his target, then swing his hip around, causing natural cutter motion. Then his four seamer would slide left. Combine that with a two seamer that bends right, and he could dominate. Guaranteed! ;-)
  9. Good call to pull Santiago. He didn't have much, lucky to get away with only two runs.
  10. That's why there's an e but not an i in 'team.' Irrational's okay, but keep it simple.
  11. A Saints game is more than a ballgame, it's a fabulous day at the park. That's what I heard, anyway...
  12. I agree completely that Santana is at the top of his game. He was always a cool customer, but this season he seems to be in a kind of Zen frame of mind on the mound. He seems totally unconcerned, almost careless as he confers with his catcher buddy what to throw next. In Baltimore today, the light rain seemed to irritate Santana more than any particular pitching situation. He seemed to be dispatching the Orioles batting order with all the stress of sorting socks before you put them in your dresser.
  13. What I noticed was that they shut him down right about the time he started touching 100mph. That's also when a human arm is reaching the limit of how hard it can throw a baseball. To me, that's a smart move for a young and talented pitcher. Let the professional coaches take the praise or blame for what happens next.
  14. Shutting down Greene was a good example of being responsible to a young star's potential. His HS coach is saying, "Okay, I took you this far; now let professional coaches teach you to throw 100mph without wrecking your arm." Isn't that what you'd want as a drafting team, a super-talented kid with the least possible damage to his golden arm?
  15. Imagine a local baseball player that is great, right out of high school, gets drafted by the home team, plays his whole career in his home state, wins batting titles, gold gloves, and plays clutch baseball nearly every game. That's why I'm still mad that the Padres got Dave Winfield, dang it! Draft Hunter Greene! Revenga! Oh, and Mauer is great, too. ;-)
  16. The Padres got Dave Winfield, so I say we take Hunter Greene. So there. Ptbbb!
  17. Escobar. Okay, now they're just piling on. YES.
  18. You have to wonder if Buxton affected the pitcher's concentration just enough for Joe to take advantage...
  19. This is fun because Buxton turns an at-bat into a cat and mouse game, distracting the pitcher.
  20. Check it out. Gibson's "best inning of the year" happened mostly because he stopped throwing his fastball. He got almost all his whiffs on off-speed stuff. Coincidence?
  21. Man, talk about hitters getting themselves out. Gibson clearly has zero command of the outside corner, so every Orioles hitter should look only middle in. Yet they're still swinging at Gibson's outside pitches. That's just brain damaged.
  22. Gibson looks like he's throwing his curve better than before. Slower, more overhand. But he's still yanking pitches he's trying to throw to the outside corner. Too far outside! Give hitters a reason to swing!
  23. Honorary pitcher of the day to Gonsalves. Welcome back, kid. Now, start mowing 'em down in AA.
