  1. @John Bonnes, Actually an Elite Closer converts about 90% of his save opportunities, the average closer is probably closer to 80%.
  2. Many players, especially pitchers experiment in ST. Pitchers work on new pitches and try to get a feel for their regular ones. I'm with Thrylos, we don't know what pitches he was throwing when he gave up those dingers. If his line looks the similar on May 1, then I will be concerned.
  3. I think everybody would by happy if your projections for Liriano, Hendricks, Capps, Perkins, Burton, Maloney and Duensing come to fruition. What's with your low numbers with Morneau? Don't you feel that he will stay healthy or don't you think the last 2 weeks of ST holds any merit?
  4. Parker, you are missing Baltimore's 3B (Reynolds) who will be batting between Wieters and Betemit
  5. I think Gray will get the spot out of ST. Fien will be reassigned to Rochester and Waldrop will start on the DL or optioned to Rochester. If Gray fails, after a month or so, he will be DFA and Waldrop will get a shot. If they need another pitcher, Fien can be given Gray's spot on the 40-man roster.
  6. I can see a scenario where Morneau gets traded this year. If he is healthy and producing he instantly becomes one of the highest value players on the roster. With Parmelee ready to take over @ 1B, Morneau becomes tradeable. We need starting pitching for next year (Blackburn the only one under contract for 2013), and Morneau would be more than a 6th month rental and his $14M salary for 2013 is very reasonable for his production when healthy.
  7. One of those 2 open spots will go to Burton, the other is probably going to go to Burroughs, Hollimon or Dozier or whoever snags the last bench spot.
  8. If you look at the notes in Forbes, that "profit" doesn't include taxes, interest, depreciation, or amortization. They have other expenses that come out of that "profit", all of it doesn't wind up in their pockets.
  9. #4: One of the open slots is going to go to Jared Burton.
  10. @travistwinstalk: This is not a bad PR move as he was going to make $400K (or $450k what ever it is) the moment he got injured whether the Twins cut him or placed him on the 60-day DL. He would only make the $850k if he was on the opening day active roster. Since he was injured, there was no way for him to make the opening day roster. Zumaya signed with the Twins as they were the only team that would offer him a major league contract. Every other team offered him a minor league contract with at ST invite.
  11. Looks like Morneau got a solid double to deep center today.
  12. If Span is traded this year, Carroll would slide into the leadoff role.
  13. Not really. Benson should be ready in 2013 but the rest won't be until mid-2014 or 2015 (End of Willingham's contract).
  14. All indications are the he is healthy, he just hasn't got his timing back yet. And the season hasn't started yet either.
  15. I agree, Plouffe and Hughes can provide offense, they do need to consider a PR on the bench. To be honest I think the PR will be Revere some of the time as I see him and Plouffe platooning in LF.
  16. The only real reason to carry 3 catchers is to cover the scenario where both Mauer and Doumit both have to leave the game. Other than that situation, the worst case scenario with only 2 catchers results in the forfeiture of the DH for the remainder of the current game. After the game a replacement catcher can be called up if needed.
  17. All Morneau would have to do is show that he is healthy and productive. If he can overcome his issues of the last 1.5 seasons, he would be a great addition to some team for $20M for the next 1.5 seasons. If Parmelee excels in AAA I think the Twins would really like to trade Morneau and start Parmelee (especially in 2013). Right now the players with the highest trade values are Span and Morneau because production is not the issue. If they can show that they are healthy they could bring the most return. Pavano, Baker and Liriano are next on the list as they would be 2nd half rentals so they won't bring back as much.
  18. I see Span being traded before either Revere or Benson (especially Benson). If the Twins are out of it by midseason and Span, Morneau, Liriano, Baker and Pavano are healthy and performing they provide the highest trade value.
  19. I think Maloney will make over Manship. Manship has an option left and will probably be a starter in Rochester with a chance to make the rotation in 2013. I also think that Hollimon or Change will make it over Burroughs as they are more versatile. Burroughs would almost be an exclusive bench bat, like Thome was the past 2 years but without Thome's production potential. It is really a coin flip as who the 3rd catcher will be and frankly it doesn't really matter between the 3 possibilities. Butera and Rivera are pretty similar offensively and defensively whereas Towles is potentially better offensively but worse defensively.
  20. I agree with you Thrylos. There is no harm to outrighting him. If he gets claimed we are off of the hook for $6M, if not he still gets $3M and it opens up a roster spot. They might yet do that. It all really comes down to which players win the bullpen jobs and the bench spots. It looks like that Twins are going to need to free up at least 2 spots (Burton & Bench spot), so somebody other than Zumaya is going to have to be taken moved.
