CHS Field was the place to be on Friday night for the annual Twins Daily night with the Saints. Fans converged onto the picnic area behind left field for a pregame picnic featuring brats, burgers and standard picnic fare, getting a chance to mingle with fellow Twins Daily readers and fans. Saints pitchers and Minnesota natives Jake Esch and Jake Matthys stopped by to talk to fans and pose for pictures. Saints mascot Mudonna also stopped by to mingle with the party goers. The theme of the night was Star Wars, quickly becoming a standard promotion in major and minor league ballparks. Star Wars characters were seen frequently ambling through the ballpark during the game. Kids were allowed to participate in Jedi training during the game. The light sabers, in all kinds of different colors provided a nice background for postgame fireworks set to the music of composer John Williams. On the field, the first place Saints took on North Division rival Sioux Falls Canaries. After the Saints scratched out a first inning run, the pitchers on both teams took over with Saints starter Matt Solter taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning. The score remained 1-0 into the seventh when the Canaries loaded the bases and had one run already in with only one out. A fly ball to Richard Prigatano recorded out number 2 and Prigatano's throw to 3rd got the runner out before the lead runner crossed home preserving the 1-1 tie. The Saints scored the deciding run in the bottom of the inning as local product and former Twins prospect Max Murphy scored the winning run from second on a bobbled throw to first base. Tom Wilhelmsen, former Seattle Mariners closer, shut down the Canaries in the ninth inning, striking out two batters. If you get a chance, don't miss out on next year's event as there is never such a thing as a bad time at CHS Field. Of course there is plenty of time left this summer to catch the Saints at CHS Field. Fargo Moorhead pays a visit this week. Monday night is the annual Larry Doby tribute with both teams wearing jerseys from the Negro Leagues. Tuesday features a Charlie Brown T-Shirt giveaway with the Saints wearing yellow jerseys with the signature black zig zag. Wednesday wraps up the homestand with a 1:05 start with a salute to Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Check saintbaseball.com or call 651-644-6659 for tickets. Click here to view the article

Kernels: Will Offense Suffer As Prospects Move Up?
John Bonnes commented on Steven Buhr's blog entry in SD Buhr/Jim Crikket
I hadn't thought about the fact that so many of the top 10 prospects who were in Cedar Rapids might also get off to a slow start due to their age. Either way, I imagine it's a joy to see Lewis and Kirilloff play every day. -
Chris Herman and the Twins catchers
John Bonnes commented on mikelink45's blog entry in mikelink45's Blog
I'll add that Suzuki was awfully streaky with the Twins, and we got fooled by early season success from him once, too. Let's see where those stats sit late in the year. -
Pretty good except for the last four words....

The festivities start at 5:30 in the outfield picnic area at CHS field. There you’ll have a pregame buffet-style picnic with adult and kid-friendly fare like hot dogs, hamburgers and pop. I guarantee nobody will come away hungry (and it’ll tamper down on your kids’ demand for concessions). Then there is a Saints game in gorgeous CHS Field. The Saints are famous for the fun they provide and that night is ... STAR WARS NIGHT. (That “pop” you heard was your kid self-combusting.) And for adults, the Craft Beer Corner is coincidentally near our seats. (Ron Howard voice: “It was no coincidence.”) After the game … it’s fireworks night! And because it is Star Wars Night, they’ll be set to the music of composer John Williams. But it still doesn’t end there. You might want to see if grandma or grandpa or a baby sitter wants to come along so they can take the kids home and you can go to the Twins Daily After Party at Tin Whiskers. Just a couple of blocks from the CHS Field, Tin Whiskers will have special happy hour pricing only for Twins Daily guests and will be staying open an extra hour to accommodate us. Last year many felt it was the most memorable part of the night. (While others can’t remember much of it. Huh.) But there’s more family friendly fun, too, exclusive to Twins Daily. At the pregame picnic, we’ll have a special guest to meet-and-greet – it might the Saints mascot or it might be Saints players – you’ll just have to wait and see. There will also be a drawing at the picnic to participate in a between innings promotion during the game! And only Twins Daily event participants qualify! Finally, we’re also working on a special on-field photo opportunity after the game. Tickets are on sale now RIGHT HERE, and can be purchased for $20 adults and $10 for kids. At that price, we are limited in how many tickets we can get, so we only have 150 tickets to sell. Last year, we had over 220 people show up, so PLEASE get a hold of your tribe and grab your tickets now. The minor leagues are about affordable entertainment. The Saints are all about fun. Twins Daily is all about coming together around baseball. And Minnesota is all about being outdoors. So please get this on your calendar and get your tickets. We can’t wait to meet you. When: Friday June 8th Where: CHS Field

Aaron and John talk about Miguel Sano's return from the disabled list, the Twins trading Phil Hughes in a deal that had very little to do with Phil Hughes, Byron Buxton looking lost and hurt, Fernando Romero's great first five starts, Chris Carter and Nick Gordon joining Triple-A Rochester, and the brutal nature of walk-off losses. You can listen by downloading us from iTunes, Stitcher, iHeartRadio or find it at GleemanAndTheGeek.com. Or just click this link.http://traffic.libsy...3?dest-id=74590 Sponsored by Billoto's Sauce, Sota Stick, Rover & Away Travel. Click here to view the article
