  1. I think the Twins will have options at P and OF, obviously, as there were many names mentioned above. One guy that I think is worth keeping an eye on is Jeremy Martinez, a HS catcher from California. The organization depth at catcher isn't great and Martinez is viewed as someone who can stay at the position and hit. The top of the first round might be a little early, but as we saw in 2012, taking a guy with a lower demand and banking some savings can really pay dividends later in the draft.
  2. The Twins also re-sign Jon Goncalves.
  3. Add Jhonathan Goncalves to the list of guys that won't hit the 6-year FA market this winter.
  4. Berrios would have ranked in both the GCL and Appy League had he qualified. But you're right... no pitching.
  5. To which I ask... Why the hell not? There are 5 higher-rated prospects in the Eastern League and 6 higher-rated prospects in the FSL. Or are we going with the theory that the best prospects are at the higher level...? Because then this discussion just got a lot more ridiculous.
  6. Based on Hot Sheet appearances, the Twins system would rank #19, which will probably be very close to where they'll rank when they do their system rankings. Guys that show up on Top 20's: International League 5. Chris Parmelee, 1B Eastern League 6. Oswaldo Arcia, RF 8. Aaron Hicks, CF Florida State League 7. Oswaldo Arcia, RF Midwest League 2. Miguel Sano, 3B 12. Eddie Rosario, 2B/CF Appy League 1. Byron Buxton, CF 7. Max Kepler, LF Gulf Coast League 1. Byron Buxton, CF
  7. I agree that I don't think Pinto will get taken, but is there a team out there (besides the Twins) that so often carries three catchers? If there is - especially in the American League - having a right-handed bench player with a little pop that plays a premium position (but maybe not well) might be worth a $50,000 risk. I'm not too nervous anyway, especially since Butera will be signing his multi-year deal this winter.
  8. If this was reported elsewhere, I apologize... According to Baseball America, the Twins have re-signed C Josmil Pinto and Ps Miguel Munoz and Edgar Ibarra. As I suspected here, all three were about to become Six-year Minor League Free Agents. Pinto will be a player that teams may discuss when the Rule V draft rolls around...
  9. Seth, if you recall the conversation that happened while I was discovering that "Trampoline" was an Olympic sport (which I'm guessing you do!), I'm not at all surprised that Baez was ranked higher than Sano. The most troubling part of today's report was that Rosario sticking at 2B is being viewed as a long-shot. The chat did mention Michael Tonkin as a sleeper RP... that's at least the 3rd place I've read that has called him something of that sort.
  10. ...and the Nishi experiment is officially over.
  11. As for Berrios, he was mentioned in both chats: Badler said he'd fit in the 4-6 range in the GCL rankings and Eddy said he'd rank in the Top 10 in the Appy League ratings.
  12. I just assumed there was a city in Connecticut named "Afar".
  13. Undergoing some "off-season" changes. You can now find that guys that are on the 40-man - but not with the Twins - together. There is also a tentative group of players who appear to be headed towards minor league free agency.
  14. Seth, Is German Minier what Amaurys Minier is going to be known as?
  15. First roster moves in a couple of weeks: Twins promote Herrmann (pro-rated minimum), activate Span and send DeVries to the D.L.
  16. Are you there to watch the game? If you're on the Roof Deck, your view is limited to the infield and right field.
  17. In Jim Callis's latest AskBA, he lists Buxton as the 9th best prospect in the minors (excluding players on September call-ups).
  18. Regardless of how this is spun, the Nationals messed up their handling of Strasburg. The team with the best record is shutting down arguably one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball in the middle of September. That's the reality. I would like to see the Twins bring him along slowly (start in Rochester on a strict innings/pitch limit until the middle of May). He should come to Minnesota with about 40 innings under his belt. Then I would like to see the Twins pencil him in every Friday night for the rest of the season. That's about 20 weeks and about 100 more innings pitched, maybe less. I realize this messes up a traditional rotation, but the Twins aren't in a position to jog five starters out all year and call it good anyway. They'll juggle just like they did this year. What's it matter if you add another ball in the air?
  19. Fine, as long as the debate is happening only because he hasn't slowly worked his way up in innings pitched, and not because he is recovery from arm surgery.
  20. Escobar and Perdomo will join the team tomorrow. They appear to be the only additional September call-ups. Escobar spent a majority of his season with the White Sox. Perdomo had his contract selected at the end of July. He spent the last 18 days with the Red Wings, so this call-up negates this year's "optional assignment". (He'll have two left going into next year.) If there are no additional roster moves, the Twins 2012 team payroll will close at $98,169,100. The call-up for Escobar and Perdomo will make them each an additional $70,800 in 2012... not a bad month of September.
  21. He's definitely advanced for his age, but at this point with pitchers I'm less about projecting "when" and more about "praying they don't get hurt".
  22. The GCL roster is undergoing its off-season changes. The hitters now have "potential 2013 destinations" along with a stat package. The stat package contains 2012 OPS; OPS vs left / ABs vs left; OPS vs right / ABs vs right. The pitchers are broken into guys I think will get an opportunity to start vs guys that I think will stay in the bullpen. Of course, that changes an awful lot, so who really knows... In the next week (hopefully), all the six-year (minor-league FAs) will be put into their own table. That list isn't the official list (and it won't be until MLB releases their list). As always, a work in progress!
  23. Berrios on the bump with a league title on the line... that couldn't have worked out much better.
  24. Benson moved to the DL. (Thanks sbknudson.) Vasquez selected (pro-rated 76K) and Walters activated from the 60-day DL. The Twins now have one open spot on the 40-man.
  25. How much time is the breaking point? 20 days in the minors on assignment to count as an option year.
