I think they did a great job. I would've liked them to have signed or drafted a linebacker who could push Pace for the starting spot ASAP and/or another linebacker with solid coverage skills for when/if Cashman is out. But that's sorta nitpicky. Every team is going to have some issue areas. I think the Vikes did about as good a job on paper as they could have. Now the coaches and players have to deliver.

I don't think what you and Vanimal are saying is that true. Might fit a fan narrative but upon reflection, not that true. They'll very likely be a good team again this year, in fact, they are predicted to have the 4th best record in the NFC (although partly b/c of the 4th place schedule). The 49ers were 13th in pts last year but 4th in yards. They had an surprising amount of turnovers but their offense - despite having McCafferty and Iyuck for only a few games - was still pretty good and could move the ball. The defense completely fell apart which is why they had such a defense-loaded draft including two really big defensive linemen in Williams and Collins early. As for Purdy, he's already shown he's a pretty good QB in this system and has shown at least as much in the post-season as anyone not named Hurts or Mahomes and he's two years younger than Darnold. I doubt his contract will be a problem for the 49ers at all.

Purdy is 4-2 in the Playoffs, taking his team to the NFC championship and the Superbowl. He got injured early in the NFC championship loss and lost in OT in the Super Bowl loss. He led the league in QB rating in 2023 and even last year, with nearly all of SF's offense injured, he was 7th in rating, ahead of guys like Mahomes and Hurts. He'll be 26 next year. And one of the smartest coaches in the NFL has hitched his wagon to Purdy. That should say pretty much all we need to know about him. There is this ridiculous notion that there is some sort of "know it when you see it" level for elite QBs. During the 2023 season, people even on TD claimed Hurts wasn't an elite QB. Purdy has shown that he can get SF to the Super Bowl. His contract isn't that onerous - apparently, it's actually closer to 45m/year b/c of the 5th year extension included in his rookie contract.

Their draft was such a Steelers draft. 5 of the 7 were defensive picks, including DT Harmon (who will be good). Kaleb Johnson, one of their offensive picks, will be good but is also a very Steelery-player. I said on draft day, the Steelers plan on playing in a lot of 16-10 score games.

I wonder how long he'll have to wait for the HOF.

I thought the Vikings draft was pretty good. A few thoughts 1) Before the Vikings drafted the TE from Pitt, they talked to Jordan Addison about him. I thought that was a really good example of the team culture they are creating. Making the WR2 part of the discussion for a 6th round pick? Really cool, makes him feel important. 2) The Sam Howell trade is really good b/c his salary is only like 1m this year. Earlier we thought we might have to pay up to 10m on a backup. This could let the team add a few more guys in free agency, if they want. Someone like S Julian Blackmon would make sense. 3) here's some highlights of the 5th round edge rushed who, according to a few people, can play all along the defensive front. Also, his parents must have liked the GOT books.

I actually like the 6th round picks. King will be a nice fit and the TE is exactly what they needed. Really, really good off-season

I'm sure you don't mean it that way but that's exactly the argument that kept Kapernick out of the game. Although, in that case, it was actually based on what the player did rather than his father.

I like Williams and Winston. If Norman-Lott is at 97, they should sprint to the podium. I'd wait on a RB at 97.

If they stay at 97, they probably won't nab a DL but there are a bunch of corners and running backs left, one could easily fall. I wouldn't be opposed to a hybrid type TE either but, unless someone big falls, maybe a linebacker who can give us better depth behind Cashman and/or push Pace for a starting job?

I think if they combine 97 with next years 2nd, they can move up into the 60ish range.

The Rams gave up a first for a first next year. The two picks they gave up are worth 800 on the value chart, the picks they got back this year are worth 441 points this year. How you want to value a next year first depends but it seems like a fair trade. As for Jackson, I'm with the consensus that this was a deep draft but not a high end draft. There was a run on IOL, Jackson was the last in this tier, just take him.
