  1. Honestly two top 100 prospects + more isn't an unreasonable ask for the Twins. Looking at past trades, two years of Dozier is probably worth something close to the Gomez trade.
  2. Hope he gets a WS ring with us.
  3. Yeah, Lynne was (arguably) the most deserving/influential person not in the HOF for quite some time. Besides ELO and the Traveling Wilburys, he was a pretty important producer and song writer, as well.
  4. http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/20/entertainment/rock-hall-of-fame-2017-inductees/index.html Pretty solid group, actually. Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur and Yes.
  5. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/phillies-to-acquire-clay-buchholz.html Wow, they traded him for a 24 year old second baseman who hasn't played above A+. I know Bucholz has some attitude issues and he sucked last year but cripes, I think we could have easily topped that offer.
  6. Wetmore had some non-Dodger's thoughts although he thinks the Dodgers make the most sense. http://www.1500espn.com/twins-2/2016/12/wetmores-5-thoughts-speculative-destinations-brian-dozier/ I am surprised by the lack of Yankee rumors. Seems like Dozier's power would play well in the AL East and they have the prospects to make it happen.
  7. Well, looks like the Dow might cross 20,000 today or tomorrow. Some interesting pieces of trivia in this article on the Dow. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/dow-20000-approaching-145145621.html Since its inception in 1896, the Dow’s average annual return has been 7.27%. The average daily return is .02537%, with the average positive day seeing a gain of 0.71% and the average down day seeing a loss of 0.74%. July is the best month of the year, with an average return of 1.3192%, while September has been the index’s worst month, with an average loss of -1.0586%. The Dow’s best year ever was 1915, when the index gained 81.66%. The Dow’s worst-ever year was 1931, when it lost 52.67%. The index’s best decade ever was the 1990s, when it gained 317.59%. It’s worst decade was the 1930s, when the Dow lost 39.54%.
  8. In a couple years our IF could be Polanco/Vielma/Gordon/Sano. I tend to agree that our future third baseman is probably playing short right now but we could also nab one at pick 35/37. There are a few third baseman slotted around that by mlbpipeline - LSU's Jake Burger and a HS kid named Vientos (who probably goes before 35).
  9. If Alvarez and De Leon are the first two pieces than I think someone more like Sborz (#15 on mlbpipeline) or Rhame. Rhame looks to be a Reed-like reliever while Sborz has controll issues but could be a mid-rotation starter if it all breaks right. I've also always been a fan of Austin Barnes.
  10. I think I missed any Alvarez connection in other reports. Anyone have a link to that?
  11. Well, if Dave is right, that would be a nice return. But looking at their system, they have a potential boat load of useful third options. I'm a bit surprised that that would be the hold up.
  12. It's pretty early but since this draft is rich in pitching and the Twins have several early picks and a need for pitching, I'd be shocked if they went with Kendall unless he turned into a Harper/Bryant type. I suspect we might load up on pitching with our first few picks. I'm hoping the Twins can get a top 10 talent to drop to 35 on bonus demands but I'm not sure if that's likely. But if the Twins could come away with something like both Faedo and Hall, I'd be thrilled.* * Usual caveat that we don't know who will be top 10 talents in June yet.
  13. http://deadspin.com/crowd-at-hockey-game-cheers-for-kid-on-jumbotron-boos-1790271571 Fans only cheer for a little kid on the jumbotron.
  14. Yeah, the defense isn't quite the big deal some make it seem. Our biggest defensive issues last year were Grossman and Danny Santana. Now, Molitor could certainly end up using them a lot but ideally he won't. Sano will probably not be good at third but I think he'll be our only bad defender. Our problem is, outside of Buxton, I don't think we have many players that can be much better than average. Which isn't horrible if we see the expected improvements from certain players but we'd like to see something better than that (one of the reasons I agree with Warne about trying to nab Profar).
  15. The season keeps getting worse. When do pitchers and catchers report?

  17. Probably not dead but it's slow. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/fatrade-notes-arroyo-tigers-martinez-avila-dozier.html#comments
  18. http://www.offthebenchbaseball.com/2016/12/18/brian-dozier-for-jose-de-leon-makes-sense-for-both-the-dodgers-and-twins/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+offthebenchbaseball%2FJzxJ+%28Off+the+Bench%29
  19. Well, the Twins were competing in 2015 although Meyer wasn't part of that. May, to a small extent, I suppose, was. The Twins already have in place the pieces for a playoff caliber offense. They need to improve pitching substantially but that doesn't have to be a long turnaround. Improving the defense a bit, improving the bullpen a bit, some positive regression can all add up. Considering some of the early moves by the FO it doesn't seem like they think we have to wait until year 5 of Sano to be good again.
  20. Don't scout stat lines. BA wrote about him: Stewart is a workhorse, back-end type who will eat innings and has great makeup. He should fit in well in a veteran, high-priced clubhouse. fangraphs said: Stewart projects as a solid No. 4 or 5 starter and could comfortably be a major-league average No. 4 if he finds a more consistent way to deal with right-handed hitters. Now there isn't anything inherently wrong with a back end starter but we can get those guys elsewhere without trading Dozier.
  21. Aside from Dave's source, doesn't really seem like talks are progressing much.
  22. Heyman mentioned the Giants have interest but probably not a fit.
  23. Well that's not necessarily true, Heyman has reported other teams are interested. Not many rumors of ANY team are actually out there. Both Heyman and Passan have tweeted about Dodger interest and De Leon but that's about it. The rest is from Dave. So, for all we know, the Twins are talking to the Yankees instead of the Dodgers. Obviously, the Dodgers make the most sense but I would be very surprised if other teams aren't sniffing around.
