  1. I used to like BP but a lot of their better writers/prospect guys have been hired away by pro teams (Cubs and Astros took my two favorites) so now I don't even go there anymore. The content isn't what it used to be.
  2. Cards drafted Dakota Hudson last year. IIRC, the Twins kicked the tires on him a bit as well. Does anyone know how the Twins scouting department viewed him? While he hasn't pitched much in the minors yet maybe he'd be part of the package with Weaver?
  3. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-24-prospects-minnesota-twins/ Now, that's not to say Gonsalves is doomed. Sickels at minorleaugeball is more optimistic on Gonsalves, for example. But I think Gonsalves ceiling is limited whereas guys like Jay and Stewart and Thorpe could end up better than him. But, again, i don't think Gonsalves is a top 100 guy while others do.
  4. I'll jump in here. fangraphs write up on Gonsalves noted that his fastball "frequently sat 89-92 mph in starts this year, Gonsalves has mostly been 86-90 and touching 92 in the Arizona Fall League and is still somehow missing bats with a heater in that range." The concern with Gonsalves has always been that his stats are outplaying his stuff - concerns echoed by Klaw, as well. I like Gonsalves but I think Twins fans overrate him considerably. Comparing him to Milone seems fair in that both are back of the rotation guys. I don't think Gonsalves should be a top 100 prospect and I like both Jay and Stewart more, although that is a minority view.
  5. I'm not sure the Cards couldn't beat the Dodger's offer. As said, Weaver's a nice looking SP prospect. His ceiling isn't as high as De Leon's but he seems more durable and safer. Flaherty is a nice looking prospect, too. A package around those two isn't as good as a De Leon/Alvarez package but might be better than a De Leon/Stewart type package. I think Levine knows a lot about prospects and won't get ripped off. We don't know how the Twins new FO views De Leon or Weaver.
  6. Well, besides money, a guy like Ross might prefer non-playoff team like the Twins which might give him 15-20 starts to get himself back into shape over a playoff team that needs every game. Additionally, he might view TF as a better pitcher's park than other destinations.
  7. Looking at mlbpipeline's current list (not recently updated), someone like Seattle's Tyler O'Neil would fit that description. I'd be fine with that.
  8. I like the idea of Ross but I think the likelihood of him coming back from his injury is pretty low. But a one year deal - even if they have to pay 14m - is fine with me to find out.
  9. Isn't that somewhere close to where Reid-Foley is? I think that's about right. Maybe someone near the backend of a top 100 list and a second, lesser piece.
  10. I think I might almost like a package of Weaver and Flaherty + more than a De Leon and Calhoun + package. I know De Leon has the higher ceiling but his shoulder and durability scare me. I think both Weaver and Flaherty are a bit underrated and could be Scott Baker/Ervin Santana types. Not ideal top of the rotation guys but a couple good durable pitchers. In any event, it's nice to see other teams in the mix.
  11. Finally saw it. Really enjoyed although I'm not a huge Star Wars guy.
  12. Seems like fanrag is working for us and fangraphs is working for the Dodgers.
  13. Bellinger is a pretty good bat who the Twins could put into the OF and replace Rosario. I think he's comparable to Kepler - similar size, similar break out but younger - more power, fewer walks. Probably a top 30 prospect. I'd love for him to be included. They could also move Bellinger or Kepler to first, bench Mauer and have a pretty rangy OF with Rosario. And that puts Sano at DH in a few years.
  14. Yeah, I agree with a lot of those comments - De Leon probably has the better stuff but Beede is more durable. (Although I'm not convinced that Beede's stuff won't play up better). De Leon could be a lot better at the end of the day but a bigger risk. -shrug- Hopefully the Twins get a good return.
  15. I'm in the minority here as I don't like De Leon much. Shoulder soreness terrifies me. I don't like that he's short and I think his ceiling in limited. Too much risk for me. I like him more than Beede but I probably like Arroyo more. But I also don't know anything and am just basing this off of a few different websites. Ideally, the Twins have a lot more information and smarter people to review it.
  16. If the Giants were interested and dangling a package around Arroyo and Beede, the Twins might listen. Arroyo looks like he could take over third from Sano in a couple years and Beede is their best pitching prospect. I'm not sure how the Twins view those two but it could be something that pushes the Dodgers to pay more.
  17. No, the surgery will fix EVERYTHING .... I'm sad
  18. I would assume the Twins knew Urias was untouchable going in.
  19. If you look at the last 4 years of Dozier and the 4 years of Kent in LA, by WAR those seasons would go: Dozier - 6.5 Dozier - 5.2 Dozier/Kent - 3.7 tie Dozier - 2.4 Kent - 2.1 Kent - 0.7 Kent - 0.1 Kent's offensive numbers are in a slightly better offensive era so they aren't quite as impressive as they'd be today.
  20. Maybe. The Dodgers really need someone who can hit LH pitching which is probably the main reason they want Dozier. They need to get over the hump fairly soon and Dozier makes too much sense for them to act like he's just a luxury item for them. Their offense was middle of the road last year in the NL and Kershaw had some injuries. Their bullpen has a lot of room for regression and SF looks better on paper.
  21. Is there any reason to think that Stewart isn't a slightly better Tyler Duffey? Both were late round picks, fast to the majors, good success in their rookie seasons. But the scouts said Duffey didn't have the stuff to stay in the rotation and those same scouts are saying Stewart's a back end guy. He might be better but I don't want him as the second piece. According to mlbpipeline, the Dodgers have six top 100 prospects plus Buehler, Lux and Sheffield. There should be a match in there somewhere.
  22. If Dodgers would take that, we'd be all over it.
  23. Heyman is saying the Twins don't feel any urgency to get the trade done, which makes sense for us. There really is no reason to trade Dozier for a package that won't actually improve the Twins. De Leon and Calhoun, for example, probably don't.
  24. I used to think that Alvarez would be off the table b/c of the size of the investment but I'm not so sure now. Alvarez wasn't the Dodgers big signing - they actually spent a lot more on Hector Olivera but traded him to Atlanta as part of the Latos trade. So I don't know if the cost of signing Alvarez would be the reason they didn't trade him.
  25. Nice to see Gardy and Arcia back together.
