  1. If Atlanta offered Shelby Miller for Plouffe, do you think TR tries to make that deal? Understanding some minor leaguer's probably would be involved either way.
  2. If he hits .250 with 15-20 HR's he's worth 3M a year. A risk worth taking. It gives them some additional money to spend elsewhere.
  3. Sign Soria and trade for Will Smith. That gives you a top 5 of RH (Soria, Jepsen, and May) LH (Perkins and Smith). Logan Darnell and Ryan Pressly could fill out your pen. That gives you a REALLY good pen with 3 lefties and 4 righties being able to mix and match in the late innings, with more than 1 closer option available. Only really adding Soria (6-7M) and Smith (1M) to the payroll. Might have to put May in the rotation and Nolasco in the pen, which weakens your pen, but Nolasco is gonna be someplace on the roster. Maybe replacing Darnell or Pressly, if you leave May in the pen.
  4. I would try to fortify the bullpen by acquiring 1 arb-prearb reliever through trade (Will Smith or Ken Giles). Then I would sign a Ryan Madson, Tony Sipp, Matt Thornton, Tyler Clippard, or Joakim Soria in FA. I would try to get one righty and one lefty. This would really stabilize a pen with Perkins, Jepsen and May already in it and let you bring up the young guns and start them out in low leverage situations throughout the season. Plus, you aren't breaking the bank by only signing 1 FA.
  5. You are getting rid of Suzuki's contract ( LuCroy's is less for 2 years) You are getting a cost controlled LHRP (probably the best available in the whole league). LuCroy and Murphy would be a very effective tandem behind the plate and you wouldn't have to wear either one out. A trade like this actually helps the payroll numbers (8M for Plouffe, 6M for Suzuki, and 5-6 M for Milone). I know giving up Kepler is a risky gamble. and you might have to acquire another "good defensive OF" if you made a trade like this.
  6. Trade Plouffe, Milone, Suzuki, and Max Kepler to the Brewers for LuCroy and LHP Will Smith. Then sign a Ryan Madson, Joakim Soria, Darren O'Day type RHP for the bullpen. This sets the team up pretty well for the present, while only making 1 trade and 1 FA signing. I guess we have to sign Park (yet) and I don't know if the trade proposed here is a feasible enough trade for both (either) side.
  7. No way the TWINS consider giving up that much. That is a fair offer, but to much for the Twins to give up in a trade.
  8. I really think an 8th inning setup man, who could really pitch is the Twins biggest priority, up until the trade deadline. But a couple of intriguing players to me, that might be available for the right price are Starlin Castro and Jonathan Lucroy. Castro is signed and owed 37M thru 2019, with a club option of 16M for 2020. A lot of contract to take on, but maybe a player worth it, for the right trade price. Lucroy is signed and owed 4M for 2016, with a club option of 5.25m for 2017. Lucroy would be a very solid addition for the Twins, but I'm sure the price would be high. Just 2 players who "might" be available and could help the Twins if the trade was right and they wanted to take on some contract. Castro would be a "gamble". But at times he can really play the game.
  9. Plus, you just have to sign Cabrera. With Quentin, you have to give up something to get him.
  10. I would be more interested in Asdrubal Cabrera for 8-10M a season, than paying Quentin 8M for 1 season. Cabrera has a pretty good bat, and although not the greatest ss defensively, our batting lineup with him at ss and Santana in cf would be pretty awesome. Better than the 1 dimensional Quentin.
  11. To me, there are about 3 no-brainer facts about this signing. 1. I would take Garza at 4/52 over either one of Nolasco's or Hughes's contract's. 2. The Twins have the money to pay all 3 and probably tried. 3. FO executives must know more about Garza's injury history then we do. I can't see him going at that price with the number of teams looking for a starter with the numbers of his past accomplishments.
  12. The only "snapshot of the Twins payroll" that matters is the Pohlads have been bank-rolling millions and millions of $$$ since the Hennepin County Taxpayer funded a stadium for them. I "really liked" the complaint of "we need a new Stadium so we can spend money on the team". The Pohlads have been and will continue "laughing all the way to the bank" since the taxpayer built them a stadium. The Pohlads are shrewd businessmen, do you think they are going to spend money on a baseball team, when the income streams have already been established?
  13. Drew exhibits all the qualities that the Twins didn't like in JJ Hardy. Why on earth would they sign him when they basically gave Hardy away because of their perception of what he could do for the team.
  14. With the Mariners signing Cano, the availibility of either Nick Franklin or Brad Miller in a trade from the Mariners became a possibility. Would the Twins consider trading Aaron Hicks for either one, in a 1-1 swap? I don't know if I would, but either one of those players would really help our middle infield. With our abundance of young outfielders in our system, would the Twins move Hicks? I don't know what else we could offer the Mariners, but Hicks is maybe too much for either one in a 1-1 swap. The Mariners are looking for a young outfielder that can play defense, maybe we could get more in the trade. That is if the Twins would be willing to part with Hicks, which I don't think they would.
  15. Drew would be a nice addition at ss. But I would rather spend the 30-40M it takes to sign Drew and spend it on signing more pitching (Garza, Jiminez,etc.). They can then try to acquire a ss through trade. Franklin of Sea., Owings or Gregorius of Ari., Pastornicky of Atl., or Espinosa of Wash. are all young cost controlled ss with 4-6 years of team control. That would be a better manuever IMO. Although making a trade for any of the mentioned young ss is a very difficult proposition.
  16. With the winter meetings looming and the Twins having already made some impressive moves, it will be interesting to see what else TR has up his sleeve. One player who has always intrigued me is Danny Espinosa of the Nats. A 2b/ss who was a highly touted prospect, but has kinda fell out of favor in DC. He might be available for a minimal price. He strikes out to much and has a low BA. But he has 4 years of team contol, is a pretty good defensive 2b/ss, has pop in his bat, and is a switch hitter. With the Nats trading Lombardozzi, they might not be interested in dealing Espinosa. But IMO it would be worth TR's time to check on the availibility of Espinosa. He does have his flaws, but maybe needs a change of scenery to blossom. He hasn't played much ss in the majors because of Desmond, but for the right price I think he would be good competition for Florimon and good MI depth for our team. On other issues I hope we can attain one more starter (One of Garza, B Anderson, Hellickson). With a rotation of one of those 3 and the others we have obtained we could be looking at a .500 plus season. I would lean towards Garza myself, for the fact we don't have to give up anything in adding him to our team. Lets hope for the best.
  17. Some of the best "building block" trades of the past were some of our established players for prospects. The early 1980's trades of Roy Smalley and Butch Wynegar to the Yankees helped build our 1987 team. The 1999 trade of Eric Milton and the 2003 trade of AJ Pierzynski helped build our division winning teams of the 2000's. Can anybody name a trade of high level Twin Prospects that ever helped us win anything. You can argue the 1989 trade of Frank Viola for Tapani, Aguilera, West, Drummond won the 1991 WS for us. So trading high-level prospects for D Price would go more for winning the WS for TB than the Twins. Just look how the Vikings built the Cowboy dynasty of the 1990's in the Herschel Walker trade. No way do I trade for Price. Period.
  18. I like the thought of it. But the Twins are way better off letting their young talent develope. I'm sure only about 40-50% of our prospects turn out, but I wouldn't trade any of them and let it play out. I hate the growing pains, but it is the right way to build a team. Look at 1982 and 1999-2000, our patience really paid dividends in those years.
  19. With the Winter Meetings looming and the Twins having already made some impressive moves, one player who intrigues me is Danny Espinosa of the Nats. A 2b/ss who has kinda fell out of favor in the Nats organization. The Twins could use some help in the MI and Espinosa might be had for a minimal price. He strikes out to much and has a low BA. But he has 4 years of team control, is a switch-hitter, has really good pop, and a pretty good defensive player at both 2b/ss. He was a highly touted prospect and maybe hasn't fulfilled his potential yet. With the Nats trading Lombardozzi it maybe changes how they feel about Espinosa. But Espinosa is the type of player the Twins should look at to help their MI and can maybe be had for a very resonable price. Plus four years of team control. A very reasonable gamble on a player who might break-out and be a useful player. He hasn't played much ss in the majors because of Desmond, but he would be good competition for Florimon at ss and would give us some depth there. f
  20. I don't see how you can see a bright future. It looks more like the mid to late 90's from my perspective. You can go back to any point in Twins history and envision 3 years ahead and think, Wow. Look at the KC Royals they have been wowing for years and where are they today. Less than 20% of those "future stars" will ever be anything in MLB. Taking that into consideration, how does our future look.
  21. Read Dave Cameron's headline at FANGRAPHS. Nuff said.
  22. Only 1 in 7 makes a major league impact. Where does that leave us?
  23. Wow. An A-ball pitcher for Span. I hope the fans respond and stay away in droves for our tax-payer funded stadium. The Pohlad's are really shrewd businessmen and look at the money they are making. To bad we won't have much of a baseball team to watch for year's to come.
  24. A perfect roster solution for the Twins, but there is no way they could or would have taken on that much payroll. One of the pitchers maybe, but not all of that payroll.
  25. Why wouldn't you take a chance on Escobar. At 5M a year for 2013 with Club options for 2014 and 2015 its a chance to take. TR likes not being obligated more than 1 year and Escobar ia a major league ss (something we haven't had since Hardy). If you don't have to give up too much to get him it definitely improves our team for next year without breaking the bank. He can bat 2,6,7,8 in the lineup and has had some pretty good season's both offensively and defensively.
