    What new "young players" are the Twins counting on in 2026? 1st base? Nope 2nd base? I guess, but Keaschall earned the position in 2025. SS? Nope. Same guy 3rd? Nope, same guy. LF? Maybe. I guess. At some point? CF? Nope. RF? Nope. Rotation? Nope. Not until injury requires additions, but that's the case every year. Nobody has qualified veteran starting pitching sitting around in AAA. Bullpen? I guess. Probably. Although we don't know that yet, and there's some young pen staff for pretty much every team every year. I ask again...what new "young players" are the Twins handing jobs to in 2026?

    "Just a backup." 1. The Twins don't do "backup catcher." They've had a roughly 50/50 catcher playiing time split for years I doubt they change. 2. Even if its just a backup, the backup catcher will play at least 25% of the time. And that's if Jeffers doesn't miss any time. 3. Bad players playing at all, much less 25% of the time, is not how to win. 4. Make no mistake, this guy is a bad player. This trade does absolutely NOTHING to make the Twins better. In 2026 or any future year. Just a roster spot, because you need 13 rostered players on a team, and 2 need to be catchers.

    LOL. A team trading for a rule 5 pick has to keep him on the 40 man till spring. And as noted, new adds must also stay on 40 man till spring. Piece of free advice: First rule of holes...when you find yourself in one, stop digging.

    Ask Seth. He wrote this; "In addition, players added to the 40-man roster in November and those taken in the Rule 5 draft must remain on the 40-man roster until spring training" in this: I'm too lazy to find a reference, but this rule is fairly common knowledge. It prevents teams from putting potential Rule 5 targets on the 40 man right before the Rule 5 draft, and then immediately dropping them right after. New adds stay till spring.

    They can't remove until spring the 6 first timers just put on the 40 man.

    Ryan is "young"? He certainly might not regress, but He turns 30 next June and this will be his 6th MLB season, 5th as a full time starter.

    As to Mr Buxton, hard to blame him if he wants out. Players want to win. There's currently no chance of that here.

    This is a popular myth but completely, totally false. Building a good pen is one of the most difficult things to do in baseball. For one thing you need at least 10 effective guys.

    With 13 position players on a typical roster I'd like you to show us a single team that platoons 1/2 their lineup.

    Lawreyson didn't get "picked off" by being dropped to AAA. He has 3 option years remaining (as noted in the OP). If the Twins wanted him in AAA, all they had to do was keep him on the 40 man. He could spend another 3 years in AAA.

    That's not really a "platoon" then. And for the record, Andujar isnt very good against RH pitching. I'd pass on all three of these options. Just doesnt add much, certainly not enough to help turn this roster into even a .500 team, much less a contender.

Nitpic, but in a Clemens/Andujar platoon, Clemens is the "strong side." Andujar is a RH hitter. Clemens bats left-handed and would have the platoon advantage approximately 70% of the time.

    I would expect an organization with a ~$1.5B worth to be prepared for a press conference announcing a major change in leadership. This is a big deal. Treat it like such. I'd think a pro sports team trying to invigorate the 90% of the fan base that actively dislikes them at present to see this as an opportunity to begin turning the ship around, rather than yet another bland and energy-free snooze fest dulled even further by corporate word salad spiced with meaningless platitudes. I'd expect ownership to take this opportunity to reassure the fan base they have a plan to provide resources going forward. Silly me, I guess.

    How are developing Jenkins and dropping $50M in free agency mutually exclusive? Believe it or not, teams can, and do both. The Twins don't have a MLB caliber 1st baseman, 2nd catcher, or much of a bullpen. Personally I'd add SS and 3rd as needing better play. 2 of 5 starters, minimum. Walker Jenkins isnt filling all those spots. The point is to win.

    NOBODY is asking the Twins to spend at the levels the Dodgers do. Nobody. But it's completely, totally unrealistic to think the Twins can win anything in MLB with nothing but internally drafted and developed talent. That's just wild fanboy nonsense. The Twins absolutely need to draft and develop top notch talent. They havent been so good at that. I'd also say there's a huge hole in their international FA talent. We're like way behind in pulling talent from the Dominican and other Central/South American pools. Japan, Korea seem to be like....completely foreign to the Twins. Trades, of course, play their part. And so do free agents. Ignoring any talent stream is not how to run a successful MLB team. You simply cant "draft and develop" your way to anything.

    And if you think the Twins should "develop some minor league talent and advance it and not spending money" is the route to postseason success you are also going to be disappointed.

    False, in every line of work. Managers get more, or less, from their teams in a factory, in a bank, or on a MLB team, based on their abilities as, wait for it, managers. The idea that managers--leaders--have no impact on group performance is laughably ignorant. No baseball manager is winning a pennant with 60 win talent. true. However, the idea that 60 win talent can only win 60 games isnt true. Same for 80 win talent, or 100. Management matters. What a manager tolerates, emphasises, teaches, considers important, makes a difference. How (s)he goes about enacting thise things makes a difference. Witness the Twins Dismal ability to play the actual game of baseball under Baldelli. And the lack of caring about any of the things that go into playing well. Some of those same qualities marked Shelton's time in Pittsburgh. Let's hope he's changed his focus.

    Id say dumping, what...11 players at the deadline, including the top 2/3 of your pen, signaled a rebuild is likely. To me, hiring Shelton signals Falvey didn’t want any kind of change in the dugout.
