    No tofu tonight. Fresh corn, my wife's wonderful salad, and Field Roast hot dog! If you think a vegan hot dog sounds gross, you haven't tried Field Roast. For 15 years as a vegetarian, good sausages were one of the few things I missed about meat. (Others include BBQ, corned beef, and pastrami.) Then I discovered FR at the suggestion of a woman who worked at one of our favorite wineries. Their sausages and frankfurters are excellent.

    In 2008 we stayed at a "backpacker" in Johannesburg. The owner was planning to cram in a couple of dozen people during the 2010 World Cup at a price that would allow him to pay off the house.

    I moved out of Houston 31 years ago, but when I lived there (and the Astros were winning) baseball was just kind of a quaint diversion until the Oilers season started. The interest level in baseball was pretty low even when they made it to the NLCS against the Phillies. Unless things have changed a whole lot, population overestimates the level of fan support that shows up in attendance and TV ratings. (Does anyone have data on that?)

    Note that a Twins' trade for Bauer would no longer be a trade "within the division." Would the Reds turn around and flip Bauer to the Twins? Would Bauer love to go out and beat the Indians down the stretch?
