I mean, did Tyler Jay really pitch that poorly? Sounds like there was an infield single which can be kind of fluky. Then, sure... a legit single. But then a bunt that was thrown away by the catcher. Didn't sound like he was hammered to a pulp or anything. By the way, can we just get rid of the stupid extra inning rule of a runner starting on second base! How dumb.

Article: 2018 MLB Draft Top 50 Prospects: 41-50
nater79a replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Maybe the Twins can get Seth Beer in the 2nd round. Like the shortstop position, can never have enough DH's in your system, right? Right? -
Just looked at the bullpen usage attachment. Lots of green zeros next to Phil Hughes, Guess he has become the new Tyler Kinley in the pen. Can't use him in a close game or high leverage situations. At some point this needs to change...can't just hold a spot for a guy waiting for the next mop-up situation to occur.

Article: MIN 5, LAA 4: Rally Rosie
nater79a replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Anybody else have that sinking feeling that Dozier getting caught in that delayed steal was going to bite us in the butt? Right before Rosie's first HR. Then when Rosie hit his 2nd in the 9th inning to pull within one. Uff da,,,good thing they kept the rally going!- 30 replies

Just have to chalk it up to "one of those days" with Gonsalves and his lack of command out of the gate. Walked some guys, hit a batter. It happens.

And even after all that I believe May has an option left if they need some extra time.

Question from last nights wrap: Noticed that Alex Robles was assigned to Fort Myers Miracle from Elizabethton (even though E-Town hasn't started yet). Are players in extended spring training technically still on the roster of the affiliate that they finished up with last season?

Gotta love me some Sammons! Big kid too... I think he might be a sleeper prospect with a bright future. One of my picks-to-click this year, among "lower ranked" prospects, along with Hector Lujan, Clark Beeker and Andrew Bechtold.

Good to hear on TJ ! He's kind of a "scrapper" type ballplayer (in a good way). Seems to a be a fan favorite at all his stops from what I can gather,- 34 replies

Article: Seth's Spring Standouts
nater79a replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Seth, get a chance to see any of Tyler Benninghoff when you were there? Probably a little EST and then E-Town would be my guess. Also, two of my favs to follow...TJ White and Cody Stashak...how are they looking?- 34 replies

Article: Twins Daily 2018 Twins Predictions

Seth knows that Kepler will hit 4.120 OPS against lefties with 37 home runs. Unfortunately, Keps only hits .625 OPS and sits against most righties. -
Article: Jake Odorizzi Named Opening Day Starter
nater79a replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You nailed it, Brock. Early season rain-outs and snow-outs have a way of jumbling rotations big time. In fact, the the long range weather forecasts for Baltimore, Pittsburgh and especially Minny look perfectly dreadful. Granted, forecasts can change, but... ...it it too early to be uttering the phrase "26th man" even before the season starts?- 53 replies

Article: Jake Odorizzi Named Opening Day Starter
nater79a replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Ha! I am. If I remember correctly we opened against Baltimore two years ago, got swept, and went on to lose nine straight to start the season. We all know how that campaign ended! Oh well... hope springs eternal when all teams are still 0-0 and tied in the standings.- 53 replies

Article: Do You Need An Ace To Win The World Series?
nater79a replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I believe you can stay in a playoff race till the July trade deadline if you have these four things: 1. A bunch of #3 starters (preferably four) 2. A lock-down bullpen 3. Timely hitting 4. Great defense However, at the trade deadline you're going to need to add a top of the rotation pitcher in order to win it all. Even if it's a rental "ace" . Unfortunately, I don't think the Twins currently have the #3 type starter depth or bullpen to get it done. They should have the hitting and defense though.- 56 replies

Could be a nice trade chip rental at the deadline if the Twins fall out of the race in July. -
Would prefer a right-handed version of LoMo to take Vargas' AB's. But I would be fine with the left-handed version since he mashes at Target Field.

Good point on possible Erv regression. Even when he comes back "healthy", do we really know whether his finger will allow him to bust the slider like before? Plus, he's not getting any younger.- 110 replies

Agree with your takes on Rortvedt and Jorge. Rortvedt will be just fine. Already a stud receiver and a leader. The offense will take awhile transitioning from Wisconsin HS ball to the pros. Like him much better than Banuelos or Navarreto. With Jorge, yeah...hard to see him cracking a playoff caliber rotation on a regular basis. Probably a guy that gets called up occasionally for a spot start or a 26th man for a double-header.

Would be interesting to see how close #2 Kirby would be to #1 Jack if defense was added into WPA. In my mind, the top two are a lot closer than the numbers say.

Article: Do The Twins Need To Add a Right-Handed Bat?
nater79a replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think the Twins will be without Sano for a decent amount of time for either health reasons, suspension or both. This means the Twins will be power challenged with only Dozier providing RH pop on a consistent basis in the lineup. So adding a right-handed power bat is a must, in my opinion. I would pick up a 1B/DH type with Granite backing up all three of the outfield positions. Vargas pretty much flails uncontrollably from the right side so I don't view him as an option at 1B/DH anymore. That ship has sailed. Grossman gives you some OBP but not much power; or defense (see Granite above). I'd move on. My choice for a bounce back candidate would Matt Holliday. I think he has another .800+ OPS and 25 HR season left in him after a bit of a down year in '17. Can spell Mauer at 1B and also DH against lefties. Second choice would be Mark Reynolds. Strikes out a ton but also hits a ton of taters. Bottom line: I give up some power from the left side (Vargas) and OBP (Grossman) for power from the right side and defense in the OF (Granite).- 81 replies
