  1. I would say a better option for the Twins would be to trade Perkins. He has value as an experienced closer and as a team with 4 90+ loss seasons, how much value does he really have for the Twins?
  2. While I'm not seeing a lot of players that I'd think the Twins would miss, the more important part is having those experienced players in the minors. Got to support the minor league teams and keep the fans coming on out to the ballpark!
  3. I think this will all shake out when we hear the answer to one simple question: Who's the best CF on the roster? IMHO, that's Santana. Good arm, but still needs to learn the nuances in playing the position. And then there's the hitting.... Can another other CF on the roster hit better than Santana??
  4. I'm not really following the logic of hiring either Glynn or Mientkiewicz as manager based on their success with developing players in the minors. With the Pohlads keeping the purse strings tight, I would think the Twins would be better served with them in the minors developing more players. And has Molitor really expressed interest in the job or even another managerial position earlier? I'm still saying purge all but Bruno and hire from the outside.
  5. I like Arcia a lot, but most of all I like what Tom Brunansky has done with him over the last half of the season. 2015 could be a breakout year, still at age 23.
  6. I'd keep Duensing around. He's been a very good left-handed resource. Swarzak would have been gone a long time ago if there was a legit replacement. He's just another one of those guys desperately wants to be a starter, but isn't. Burton has had his moments. Now those moments are over. Clean sweep time!
  7. I kinda view any internal candidate as poisoned fruit. Molitor is a great guy and by all accounts, one of the most knowledgeable baseball guys around. From the list, I like Dave Martinez and I like the suggestion of Chili Davis, but as the hitting coach. Although, it seemed like Bruno made great strides with some of the younger hitters. However, I don't believe Gardy's firing is the end of the story. Ryan is next. But I have one question: Under who's watch was Sano, Buxton, Hicks, Meyer, J.O., May, Santana, Vargas and Arcia brought in? Was it all Ryan? Would be the only saving grace for me......
  8. I'd float Dozier and Plouffe for trade. Actually, anyone on the current roster with a few exceptions. The Twins [and fans] need to see the true value of what we have. Which ain't much. When you tout a guy with .240 as your pick for next years advertising poster, there's obviously a problem with perception. Adding a little here, a little there won't help this team. Go all in with the kids. I'd rather fail on hope than no hope. Hicks is this poster child for trading when his value is considered high in the minor leagues.
  9. Crawford is 33 and overrated. Just say no. Would love Hammels, but Phillies have been talking shedding contracts and going full rebuild. I think many Twins homers are underestimating how much the Phillies want in return, including taking over the entire remaining contract. Betts has good minor league stats as he went up the scale. But I don't see any pop. Van Slyke seems like another pipe-dream. I'm really not in favor with adding another starter who has a fastball that doesn't pop. Twins need someone to offset the stuff of Hughes, Gibson. et el
  10. The MLB gods can bite me on the "play your A team against contenders" stuff. The Twins need to get a realistic look at what they have down on the farm. Why should they be penalized?
  11. Not far enough! A cleansing is needed and a re-alignment in the roster as well. And starting at the top, Terry Ryan should be replaced. I believe he is mostly responsible for the shape of the farm teams, and they ain't all that bad. I like to see a more aggressive development approach. I think that for the Twins to improve quickly, a more aggressive coaching staff from the farm to the bigs is needed. No more coddling the likes of Aaron Hicks. Play, play hard or move on! Hire either a 300lbs gorilla or Lou Brown ;-) For this next year [and the previous 5] there's no point to keeping Perkins. He's 31 now, so slippage could be coming. Trade him for 3 highished ranked minor leaguers or better quality starter. Try to package Mauer :-)
  12. The questions I always have with prospects are: 1. If they're magnificent fielders, how's their hitting? 2. If they're a 'slap hitter' how many walks are they drawing? 3. If they're a hard throwing pitcher, do their fastballs lack movement? 4. If they are very young pitcher in the #3 category, what's their physical makeup? I'm reading potential problems with several of these prospects. Oh, yeah: steals are nothing more than a stats padder to me...
  13. I've been watching his stats all season. When you read the line on Baseball-Reference the first thing you see is: 209..2 innings 221 hits! Then you scan a little further: 16BB's and 186K's. Amazing numbers! The really big thing now is: how will he respond next year? Stats also show that the year after an increase in innings, his ERA goes up a lot. I think these last starts were a pretty foolish thing to do, just like pitching that last inning for the bonus. Same for Gibson. I really like both Hughes and Gibson, but need to round out the staff with a couple power pitchers.
  14. 3 little words: Not a chance. I think Cueto is overrated. The weird delievery [like Lus Tiant] is covering up some pretty average stuff [like Lus Tiant]. This coming from a guy who loved to watch Tiant pitch. The Twins [and us] have a pretty good history of overrating prospects.
  15. A sub .240 average is a big concern for me. If other teams are big on the power aspect of Dozier, trade him.
  16. The Twins should embrass full rebuild mode. In most cases, replacements are already on the roster. Perkins seems to be wearing out a lot. Time to trade him while they can still get max value. From what I know of Tompkin, he can close. Dozer [santana or Escobar sliding over] and Plouffe [hopefully, Sano] are easily replaceable. And do whatever you can with Mauer. Seriously, I'd tell him he faces the max 20% deduction in salary for non-performance. Hughes, Gibson and May look like keepers. Milone was already spent when he was acquired. And frankly, Twins need more power arms to make him successful. Nolasco can go and probably most of the middle relievers and spent after logging huge innings for the past several years.
  17. A situtation that has been this bad, this long screams for a new coaching staff from the outside of the Twins organization! Henry Blanco as manager!! Can relate to the South/Central American players on a more personal level and one of the top defensive catcher of our generation. That, and I really like catchers as managers. Back him up in the dugout with Molitor, who has the deep knowledge of the game, but not the flash. Pitching coach? How about player/coach? LaTroy Hawkins! Look at his history: A failure as a starter, when finally convinced to try middle relief became one of the best in the game. When finally given a chance to close fulltime, continued to be successful AT AGE 42! If he don't know pitching [and success], who does? The only thing I'd keep from the past is Bruno. By all reports, he's been successful teaching the finer points of hitting to the Twins young sluggers.
