  1. The signing of Belisle is part of Falvey's plan to slow down the promotions of MiLB relievers. Promotions due to desperation. And, as promised, Falvey signed Belisle a 1yr contract, only. I like the thought process. Michael Tonkin: 71.2 innings, 80 H's, 24 BB's, and 13 HR's. Tonkin's 95 MPH fastball is flat, straight and very hit-able. Really no loss in losing him.
  2. I'm 58. If someone said I look like I was approaching 40, I'd be doing this:
  3. IMHO: I don't think this is remotely over. More likely, roster moves will continue throughout the season. Honestly, I like Park over Vargas. Far more athletic, which I understand doesn't mean much when comparing those two. I would have let Vargas go to one of the reported "interested" team and keep Park. Because of injury, we really don't know what he can do. Except for some magnificent Home Runs. Pitching: in my fantasy world, both Berrios and Duffey are in the MLB bullpen to gain experience against MLB hitters. Break them in slowly with eye towards Starter promotion. "For better or worse, the team is now firmly committed to Sano at third base, his natural position." This always makes me laugh! I'll give you this: in a SSS, he's better there than RF.
  4. ridicule ?
  5. If they can get a few more mph on Gonsalves fastball, he could be something special. It just won't happen overnight.
  6. Oh, come on. You just did that to see how many "Likes" you could get! Congrats!!
  7. IF Phil Hughes starts the season in the rotation [ a couple REALLY big if's IMHO ], then at the very least, Berrios should be in the Twins bullpen, facing MLB hitters. Returning to the MiLB will accomplish nothing. Plus, with Neil Allen changing Berrios' windup at the end of last season, I would much prefer he keep working with Allen.
  8. I believe Falvey and Levine are attempting to address the 'burn out' issue. They're looking for a couple veteran relievers, on 1 year contracts, to eat some innings. Currently mentioned are Righthander Joe Blanton and lefthander Boone Logan.
  9. No way. He's not been the same since right elbow surgery 2+ years ago.
  10. As a courtesy, I could maybe see a reunion when rosters are expanded at the end of the year. I think it would be a nice gesture in recognition to what he did for the Twins early in his career. But right now? No way. Twins need to focus on the future.
  11. Just a gut feeling: Jeff Pickler is the Twins manager next year.
  12. Well, if memory serves, the Twins had guys like Logan Schafer, Danny Santana, Darin Mastroianni and a little later Robbie Grossman hanging around to play in the outfield. Plouffe was a decent third-baseman for the Twins, so I can see the logic of keeping him there. But bringing in the bunch of OF's I listed, well, seems like a lot worse idea IMHO.
  13. Date Injury Status 09/21/2016 Diagnosed stress fracture Shutdown rest of season 09/12/2016 Strained lower back 15-Day Disabled List 08/07/2016 Strained lower back 15-Day Disabled List 06/10/2016 Lower back spasms 15-Day Disabled List 04/25/2015 Arm Day-To-Day It's been reported that, even as a starter, May will occasionally need an extra day off because of his lower back issues. The Twins made some fubars the past few seasons. This is a pretty big one. The Twins have some young RP's that were introduced to the MLB last season and have some more in the MiLB. May not being in the bullpen should not happen this year. There is no need.
  14. Another player article from the Star Tribune: Trevor May will be a Twins starter. So saith new Twins Chief Baseball Officer Derek Falvey. http://www.startribune.com/twins-trevor-may-both-hope-his-relief-days-behind-him/412065543/ Really hope so. May's body just can't handle RP work.
  15. Thanks, Jack, for you inside view! Really wish I would have quoted all 3 posts.....
  16. I never saw the temporary move to RF as a mistake. For better or worse, Mauer was at 1st, Plouffe at 3rd and Park was scheduled for DH. So, sit Sano on the bench? I thought it well worth the effort to try Sano in RF. I'd rather see that than parking him at DH. No pun intended :-) I thought, after a few weeks in RF, Sano did OK. But just that. Sure, he still had troubles dealing with balls hit off the wall and on angles. But that arm sure played well in RF. I completely agree that Sano should not have be left out there for extended periods. Just like with Berrios and Meyer during those Astro games. You just don't leave young player out there to get mangled like that. And, I too think we might see something really good from Sano this year!
  17. ....and Paris? Casablanca, 1942. Before my time. Chief?
  18. Just goes to show how much fat he was carrying around. There's just so many things in that article that I really wanted to hear about Sano's offseason. Now, about that hair......
  19. As long as the statue isn't done by the guy who did the Mary Tyler Moore statue. Hideous. http://www.marytylermoore.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/Mary_Tyler_Moore_photo_5.jpg http://assets.atlasobscura.com/media/W1siZiIsInVwbG9hZHMvcGxhY2VfaW1hZ2VzLzZkOGJhZjA3NWQ5Yjc2NDI3Ml83NTc1ODQxOTc2X2YwMWY0YWQwZmFfay5qcGciXSxbInAiLCJ0aHVtYiIsIngzOTA-Il0sWyJwIiwiY29udmVydCIsIi1xdWFsaXR5IDkxIC1hdXRvLW9yaWVudCJdXQ/7575841976_f01f4ad0fa_k.jpg
  20. Wow! And reading the article, it looks like Twins fans got what they were praying for: http://www.startribune.com/a-fitter-migues-sano-showing-twins-he-s-ready-to-take-next-step-in-career/412025626/ http://stmedia.stimg.co/08_02TWIN012917_43540673.JPG?w=525
  21. This explains an awful lot about Bautista. He's a thinking man's hitter. I'd make a bet that Miguel Cabrera does the same. Both make it seem really easy. So, question: How, when, why do MLB teams start loading up prospects on this type of information? The top one I think of is Buxton. How long do you wait on a players natural physical abilities before introducing them to metrics? On the reverse side, same questions for the pitchers. If I were to guess, I'd think at least some organizations are starting an intro to advanced stats at the MiLB level.
