I have made my Rocco opinion very often in game threads so I'll take this from the perspective that the manager is liked by the vast majority of the fanbase:
This postgame blowup has probably been needed long before Sunday. I'd say that it should have happened at least by the 15-0 demolition to Toronto. Maybe even before that after getting swept in a largely listless effort vs the Braves. If the manager is as well-respected by the players as it has routinely been reported, these guys should respond tonight with one of their better efforts in over a month. If they come out and get dominated by Detmers and look just as bad, then you can maybe make the case that they've packed it in a bit. If we gave some of these vets truth serum, it would be interesting to hear what they'd say about the constant lineup juggling as well as the position switching.
Bottom line is that their best player has been out for 2 months and arguably, their second-best offensive player has been out 3 weeks and neither have any sort of light at the end of their injury tunnel. I don't know too many contending teams that would be able to weather this storm as it is. Certainly if they were on the outside looking in at the moment, I'd have zero confidence that they could overtake for a spot. The only glimmer of hope I see of winning the division is because they still have games left vs Cleveland. But for those to mean anything, they've gotta treat the Angels this week like the Royals treated them this weekend. If they come out and drop 2 out of 3 and look disinterested doing so, then I think you could say that the manager has lost them. We saw what happened in Seattle when they arrived at that conclusion.
