    They have a proven Major League manager in their dugout. The funny part is after that game in Williamsport, he said they were going to work on shutting down Skubal. That was when they were 3 under .500. Then they took off. That entire pitching staff has really carried them in this stretch.

    FWIW, Polanco hit his 16th HR tonight and also has an RBI single Topa and Desclafani have failed to throw a pitch in a Twins uniform this season.

    Right, and I think that goes back to approaches at the plate that is discussed in spring training by the coaching staff, etc. Just this last half inning, Marlins righty on a 2-strike counts takes the borderline pitch the other way for a base hit. A Twins player either looks at it for strike 3 or rolls it over for a weak groundout. The plate discipline for a lot of players might be worse in this last month than it was in the 7-13 stretch to start the season and it was AWFUL back then.

    I had catchers in the Babe Ruth game I umpired on Saturday make better block attempts than Jeffers just tried there.

    Probably shifted all the way behind 2nd base since our defense is rarely playing conventional. Ya know, numbers and all that.

    The entire offense has looked lost in the last month. They look like a hockey team who hasn't scored on the power play in forever and they all squeeze their sticks tighter. It's like we're squeezing the bats tighter and everyone is missing the meatballs.

    I'm sure someone will have the answer in the postgame fallout but this has to be the first time since like May that the Twins have been on the outside of the playoff window.
