    Or...Jeffers can know where Frelick is in the box and back up a step. If I'm working the plate and I see a catcher a bit too close, I'll warn him to back up a step. The catcher backing up a step shouldn't (if the ump is any good) affect a ball/strike call.

    These lefthanded youngsters have really gotta get better at hitting lefties because losing a power hitter like Larnach for someone like Castillo in this spot is pretty onerous.

    I'm happy Alcala got out of that because bringing Okert in to face Yelich after Cory just got done saying Yelich is a lefthanded batter that pummels LHPs would have been hilarious.

    To be fair though, would you really wanted to have Wallner in that spot facing a lefty when his last few ABs have been April-like and he's not exactly Ted Williams against lefties? You could have put Martin in there instead though.

    I was going to compliment this ump for at least being consistent on the borderline pitches outside the box. But then he went and messed up that praise by giving a lower strike.
