  1. Hanley would almost assuredly get a qualifying offer, which pretty much takes him out of the running. I could see one or two others on this list also receiving a QO even if the team doesn't need them back, because it still nets them either a draft pick or trade bait. Baseball needs to fix the QO system because it is effectively killing free agency for guys considered solid (but not transcendent) players.
  2. I grew up in Sioux City and lived in Sioux Falls and both get FSN North as well as almost all Vikings games on the standard cable package. Once you start going south and east that falls off pretty quickly though. When I lived in Cedar Rapids I was able to get FSN North on DirecTV, but it was part of an extra $12/month sports package. I wish that wasn't the only option. Now I'm in California and I can finally use the MLB.TV package to see Twins games from anywhere. Although now I have to deal with grief from Verizon for the privilege, because apparently it's taboo to actually use the internet bandwidth I pay for.
  3. I've always wondered this as well. It seems strange that there isn't at least a minimal acknowledgement of the Senators history. It's like those players and achievements have just been forgotten.
  4. It feels like the injury rates nowadays are so high that without TJ surgery we wouldn't even have any elite pitchers left. It's almost a rite of passage that a pitcher will have it at some point, especially the power guys with wicked breaking balls. I'm sure that's not really the case, but that's definitely the sense I get watching top-tier pitchers go down year after year.
  5. Just playing devil's advocate here, but the article was talking about getting previously marginal hitters to draw walks because they aren't going to beat anyone with the stick consistently. Mauer isn't a marginal hitter (ignoring the last few weeks) and certainly has the ability to beat even great pitchers swinging. That was his perceived responsibility in the batting order for years, whether or not it was true.
  6. Kyle Gibson: Great pitcher, or greatest pitcher ever?
  7. I'm having trouble too. Glad to know it's not just my connection going wonky.
  8. I stepped out of the lurking shadows just to point out that Kubel is tied for the league lead in three-baggers. I don't know what to do with this information.
