  1. Nolasco's BAA on the road is .375. That means the average hitter against him on the road this year would be the greatest hitter of all time.
  2. I don't know, but I suspect that some of Gardy's decision to start Morales tonight is because Dickey is pitching. Being game ready doesn't really apply when you're facing a knuckleballer.
  3. Chi- Morales himself said "it may be 5 days, it may be 10 days, it may be 7 days". I wasn't happy when I read that, but surprised and pleased to see him in tonight's lineup. Maybe something got lost in translation! Morales is a terrific slugger. Strikes out a bit too much, but when he connects, they go a long way.
  4. Thanks for posting, Seth. I actually have never seen that, as I was listening to that particular game on a radio in upstate NY. I always assumed that Mariano missed his spot, but he actually put it right where he wanted to...that same cutter running in on the fists that got out so many hitters over the years. Just a great job of hitting by Kubes in his greatest moment. He was terrible this year and this move had to be made, but he was one of the good guys and I will always remember him favorably.
  5. They have a few days to think about this, because Morales will go to the minors for a few games to get game-ready. But if things stay the way they are now, I see the following moves: Immediately: Fuld up and Hicks down to work on his RH swing. In a week: Release Kubel to make room for Morales.
  6. You know, I tried ten years ago when I golfed with him and Dark Star. Dark was a gas, but TK was as dull on the golf course as he is in the booth. Fun to talk baseball with him though. He said if he could have had the raw talent of any player he ever coached, he would choose Jacques Jones.
  7. I'm with you, Gibby...I'll always appreciate how he helped get that monkey off our backs. And he can be inciteful. I just want him to have more fun!
  8. I've been enjoying the game today, so I'm a little reluctant to throw out something negative...but TK is really bugging me today. It's not that he's doing anything different, just his normal stuff. But it bugs me. Here are my thoughts. 1) Baseball is a joyful game...you can feel the joy that we all get from baseball in these game threads. But TK is joyless. I understand his deal is "never too high, never too low", but when the rookie drives in four runs with some great at bats, loosen up a little! God, his droning is difficult to listen to. 2) TK is a dinosaur. Last night you could just feel the pain in his voice every time Houston shifted on defense. He just doesn't want to accept the evidence of its effectiveness. I admire TK's knowledge of the game, in general, but his Luddite-ness has rubbed off on Gardy, and hurts the team. 3) I hate it when he starts a sentence with "Again". It's so dismissive. It's like he's saying "I've told you this so many times, but you baseball mortals just don't get it" What's wrong with me? Ranting during a 7-0 game. I don't know...he's just rubbing me the wrong way. I'm looking forward to silly Bert returning! And now, since baseball is always a joyful experience for me, I'm going to head down to my favorite batting cage in south LA and take a few swings!
  9. I had Dozier on my bench, but he's currently my favorite player, so I hope he holds onto second. I struggled with dropping Plouffe because I don't think he has reached his pinnacle yet, and I like your idea that he might stay as an outfielder. Polanco was a problem for me. I like Dozier, Santana and Rosario a lot, and think they are a bit ahead of Jorge right now, and Gordon was a consensus top 10 pick in this year's draft (most experts see him sticking at SS, but the jury's out on Polanco). That's also why I dropped Escobar...just too many better middle infield prospects. I also agree that walker is the weakest link, and that it's nice to have a guy like Kepler pushing him. As for Mauer, he plays the game so effortlessly and is improving at 1b, I see him as being a close to .300 hitter for several more years.
  10. I pondered putting this thread in the minor league forum, but decided against it since only 3 of these guys are currently playing for one of our minor league clubs. Drafting Gordon with the first pick makes this game even more fun. This is what I see, assuming everyone stays healthy and sticks at their projected position. Buxton, CF .310 20 HRs 40 steals Rosario, 2b .280 Arcia, RF .270 30 HRs 110 RBI Sano, 3b .270 35 HRs 120 RBI Pinto, C .290 25 HRs 90 RBI Vargas, DH .250 25 HRs 70 RBI Mauer, 1b .280 150 BBs Walker, LF .260 20 HRs 70 RBI Gordon, SS .280 Mauer is having a tough season this year, but can still help us out at age 35, albeit in a more realistic spot in the lineup. Maybe only one .300 hitter, but 6 legit 20+ HR guys and lots of runs potential. Gordon, Buxton and Rosario is a speedy trio leading into the power section of the lineup. Dozier, Kepler, Santana, Parmalee and a catcher on the bench. Realistic? What did I miss?
  11. In fairness to Gardy, Kubes is 2 for 3 with 2 HRs and 5 rbi against Kuechel. If Kubel is going to be allowed to consume some of the oxygen in the Twins dugout, he needs to be in the lineup against this guy. OTOH, if he doesn't rake tonight, it should be Kube's last stand. Today's hypothetical question: What would be the result of a Kubel at bat against Correia?
  12. Danny Ford wants you to give him a call, dog...
  13. Hmmm...not sure Gardy has thought this through properly. If Suzuki gets hurt, doesn't that mean that...
  14. I'm not surprised that he would have a sharp learning curve at first base, considering what a versatile athlete he is. But his plate woes are getting difficult to watch. I bit my tongue when he singled sharply up the middle on a first pitch fastball...I was starting to get as repetitive as the YES announcers.
  15. Yes, especially Dozier and Mauer (who seems to improve defensively every day).
  16. Me too, chief...and he's an easy guy to cheer for (unlike Nolasco who strikes me as being a little surly)
  17. 3.12 ERA and a 6-1 record for a .500 team certainly puts him in the conversation.
  18. I like Thielbar too, jb, but do you really think he should be our ASG rep?
  19. This might be my favorite game of the year. (and my 9-5 prediction doesn't look too silly now)
  20. Did you aver think you would see the day when walking Mauer to get to Nunez would be a stupid strategic move?
  21. I was with my sons and father-in-law moving my daughter into her apartment in Hamilton, NY after her college graduation, and we celebrated Kubel's game winner with a beer break...nice memory!
  22. I remember him hitting a game winning homer off Rivera maybe 4-5 years ago...maybe even a grand slam? But that was clearly a different Kubel
