  1. I think he just means that he has to perform well in the relief role again for some time this year before we get too excited (again) about the guy. He was definitely mishandled starting with the Mets (they are good at doing that). By July I would not be totally surprised if Manship, Oliveros, Guerra, Robertson, and DeVries had already been called up or were soon to be called up by the Twins. That says something about each of them and also something about what I think of Swarzak, Maloney, and Gray (here's hoping that Burnett and Burton don't join that list).
  2. There would be some value in most recent score, that day's game, and the next day's game to be found in an easily accessible way. I mean, I am almost neglecting the Twins team site entirely because of this site . . .
  3. In thinking of who I want to adopt, I got to thinking that just like top prospects have more pressure to perform, so will those who adopt them. Ha. I almost wish Shooter Hunt was still around for this.
  4. Maybe keep it to the four teams playing now and then in June add the other 2 (or 3) for those want another? I guess I am not sure if there are 25 people, 50 people, 100 people, 200 people, etc. interested in doing this. I am guessing that those who are interested won't mind something like a week to ten or so days for posting windows. This is a very cool idea in a lot of ways. Maybe it even generates revenue for teams down the road because of interest in players one would not have had otherwise.
  5. I guarantee you that even Danny Lehmann would out-perform Butera and Rivera for the Twins right now.
  6. Speaking of, a trade package involving Revere and Valencia might actually bring something of value (pitching) back.
  7. Revere is the bottom of the prospect totem pole when it comes to talented OF (though Benson is off to a slow start, as is Arcia)
  8. Sano may end up at first, but there is no need to move him there until at least AA. I am almost certain that Alexi will be gone at the start of next year if not sooner. Dozier is his replacement. Michael is Carroll's replacement, though Dozier may be at short and Michael at second. Rosario will be a wild card around 2015. I wonder if Rosario might end up taking Sano's spot at 3rd down the road.
  9. What jumps out to me, given how things went last year, is the success of that many lefty relievers. I had only Robertson and Williams in my top 50.
  10. How about every 10 team games/2 starts for SPs? seems like a compromise . . . every 10-11 days.
  11. I rarely would ever say this, but . . . OMG.
  12. I wonder what the Orioles want for Mark Reynolds (they apparently want to trade him now)? Just wondering what they want. I generally hate the kind of player Reynolds is, but a career .810 OPS interests me. His stats for 2009 are sort of bewildering (44 homers, 24 steals, 223 whiffs).
  13. Also . . . this was the hope with the acquisition of Carroll and a healthy Span and Mauer. I think the three of them got on base 10 times. If Morneau stays the way he is and with Willingham playing so well, this team can be very good offensively.
  14. Hendriks made basically one bad pitch in his first five innings. Then Casilla doesn't get in front of the damn ball. I learned to do that in little league. It doesn't hurt, Alexi. Hendriks then starts leaving some pitches up, but does his best to minimize the damage caused by Casilla by coaxing a double play ball from Pena to keep it at two runs. He's basically at 100 pitches with one of the best hitters in baseball, Longoria up. Hendriks has been losing some of his command . . . maybe if Anthony Swarzak was a real pitcher and could have gone five innings the night before, the Twins would have made the no-brainer decision there and brought in whatever righty was warming up at the time (Burton?). And then Casilla's play gets changed to a hit. Good lord. One has to like how Hendriks looks as a pitcher out there. Great command on the black, even only at 91 mph, is still very good to have. He also seems to care quite a bit.
  15. Unlike Hughes, he may have value against left-handed pitching. .734 career OPS against lefties is not great, by any means, but it was .782 last year. That makes him valuable enough in that role.
  16. This will make Mauer's positional breakdown for 14 games (all played) C: 8 1B: 3 DH: 3 That's pretty good usage. Would have been good to start that about 2008 . . .
  17. Yeah, it is mildly or more than mildly disgusting that you could accurately predict that about a player this year already. Souhan is such a crime against sports commentary.
  18. Let me say one thing, in defense of Butera ever being on the roster . . . if the Twins would (in May?) ever go with a 5 man bench and 11 pitchers (crazy idea, I know . . . hell 11 used to be high back when I was a kid). That last spot would literally be for a defensive replacement in close games only.
  19. Good point. John . . . think if the Twins had some other closer and Matt Capps was still around as a setup man . . . I recall you saying on a G&G that you just wouldn't trust that Capps ends up closing for whatever Gardenhire-engineered reason. Same thing here.
  20. There may be a 7-10 guys with more value for the roster than Butera in Rochester. I don't care that it may only be 2/3 of a win. It's still 2/3 of a win, A, and B, some of these guys could overperform (Carson, Hollimon, Bates, etc.), but we know Butera is going to bat .200 at most and maybe crack .550 OPS if extremely lucky. It seems that the Twins have plenty of guys who could top .650 OPS. Is it so much to ask for a bench that has adequate or better than adequate bats at least in some situations (LH/RH)? There is no situation where one would ever want Drew Butera to be at the plate than any of those players. Even though he has sucked at Rochester (who cares given he is splitting time with two duds), if Gardenhire is so hellbent on having three catchers, I would prefer to see what Towles can do when given the opportunity. I always laugh when I hear something like "at least they know what to expect from" x player (often Nick Punto was that x) as a reason to sign or utilize that player. Well we know exactly what to expect from Butera (and Rivera) and that is badness.
  21. I like both of those guys a lot (and Manship), much more so than Jeff Gray, Matt Maloney, and Anthony Swarzak.
  22. The downside is that Drew Butera doesn't belong in major league baseball. I cannot believe how anyone could possibly defend bringing him up.
  23. Yeah, this is pretty much exactly the case.
  24. Swarzak is not very good. His minor league numbers since 2007 (!) show that pretty clearly. He has no business being a major league starter. He's the Luke Hughes of the pitching staff . . .
  25. Huge OPS so far. I would like to see him sustain 900+ for over 250 plate appearances before moving him to Fort Myers.
