  1. Good grief, trading any number of your very best players away is not something a team looking to rebuild should do. At all. Instead, the idea would have to be to package lesser players who might still be interesting to other teams but who annoy yours (Danny Valencia, Alexi Casilla, Matt Capps, Anthony Swarzak) with notable prospects (Ben Revere, Oswaldo Arcia, Angel Morales, Carlos Gutierrez, BJ Hermsen, Corey Williams, etc.) to get good value in a couple of trades (in this case, for starting pitching and maybe 3rd base).
  2. OH MY GOD, finally someone agrees with me about this.
  3. During this time I would like to see a RF platoon straight up for Plouffe and Komatsu (since they are committed to playing him for awhile).
  4. Santana was my second pick behind Herrmann for my Adopt-a-Player. I really like the potential there and I am happy to see him hitting like this.
  5. Doumit is going to be catching or DHing almost exclusively now while Morneau is out and Butera is on the roster.
  6. Yes, I am thinking that the latter scenario might happen. And maybe against lefties sometimes all of them are in the lineup with Valencia DHing. A rotation like that might be good for all of them, actually.
  7. I might be interested if the Twins would subsequently move Joe Mauer to the leadoff spot.
  8. Precisely. I do think his usage this year has been generally good, though he probably should be given a few more days off.
  9. Are we all just taking crazy pills around here . . . ? Or what!?
  10. Do they not want to be wrong about promoting Slama and Manship? As in, if they stink (unlikely, but if they do), they will look foolish? But who cares? It isn't like other pitchers like Guerra, DeVries, Fien, Oliveros, etc. don't exist. Is this the traditional Twins weirdness about the last few 40-man roster spots? The last 3-4 spots should always be a potential revolving door.
  11. Yeah, there is something just inexplicable about the treatment of Slama, but in particular RIGHT NOW, this year, given these chumps (Maloney, Gray . . . and Swarzak, by the way). I would say that Tyler needs to show some more at AAA right now, but Slama and Manship should be up immediately. I just don't understand it at all.
  12. Oh my God, Blackburn. Paging P.J. Walters . . . anybody.
  13. Oh, duh. Note to self: look at the damn original post time.
  14. Is B-Dozy coming up for somebody else?
  15. No. There is a lot of baseball left.
  16. He has gotten magnificently lucky so far given the walks . . . and reliever should NOT be judged solely on ERA as they inherit runners who don't count against their ERA if they score. And they have, as thrylos98 notes.
  17. I'm confused. I thought it was going to be Dozier. Didn't they already do that? So confused . . . Chang spent a tiny bit of time at first for the Boston (?) affiliate in AA (?) (not sure) in 2010, I think, so he could actually backup all four spots if absolutely needed (LH pitcher, for instance). Also, wasn't Chang the guy Span mistook Nishioka for at the beginning of spring training last year? On principle, he should be called up just to make that funnier. Chang is better than Nishioka.
  18. Hopefully the love affair with Anthony Swarzak will end soon. He is not good. Full stop. Gray is close to an implosion, so the Twins have three guys (Swarzak, Maloney, and Gray) to replace (hopefully with two pitchers and one player).
  19. Not sure what it will be after 4 games, but I am guessing Dozier gives Casilla, Carroll, and Valencia a day off and then another day with Valencia DHing (Carroll moves to third), then maybe Dozier's off and either some sort of cycle starts again or by that time Casilla will show that he will return to be terrible . . .
  20. Jason Bartlett had one truly good season after that trade (it was a great season, actually). Oliveros may be more valuable per dollar than Delmon by next year.
  21. By garbage money I didn't mean the big salaries (both deserved at the time). I would include Pavano's. Blackburn's of course, as well, and obviously Matt Capps. Liriano and Baker are moderately cheap for what they could have produced this year. In years past, Nick Punto, Mike Lamb, Ramon Ortiz, Rondell White, Livan Hernandez, Adam Everett, Craig Monroe, Luis Ayala, Tony Batista, etc. Any given year there is $15 million or more just tossed at players who are grossly overpaid for their value when league minimum players and one $10-12 million player would be vastly better.
  22. A. Keep in mind that Swarzak's numbers as a starter are worse. B. Add P.J. Walters and Cole DeVries as those last two guys. C. This is what drives me crazy over the years with the team. It isn't the total amount of money spent. It's the garbage money spent here and there that adds up to tens of millions of dollars for REPLACEMENT (or worse) level play.
  23. Yeah, it may be their last effort to find someone like this to fill that spot until they start promoting from the farm, but some of those guys have either been injured (Tosoni) or have sucked (Benson) this year.
  24. Unless Jose Valentin has more than one son around that age, I actually saw Jesmuel in 2010, i believe, in the Colt World Series. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.
  25. Sometimes stuff just happens. Maybe it was a big mistake to rely on Liriano and Baker as the top pitchers in the rotation, but one can about imagine how things around here would be if the Twins traded 3 top 10 prospects for some ace pitcher and then that ace pitcher has to have TJ surgery or something. One cannot complain about a "poor" farm system and then also demand to trade prospects away. The only trade that was truly abysmal at the time was the Ramos-Capps trade. The Young-Garza trade was made at a time when the Twins looked like they truly had some starting pitching depth and needed a good-great RH bat. Delmon Young was highly regarded. Maybe the Twins should trade Arcia and Morales for pitching, but if Joe Benson and Aaron Hicks then develop persistent injuries that seriously limit playing time, one can't look back and say that the team shouldn't have traded from a position of depth. Talking about wanting trades is stupid. We don't know much about what actually goes on, what is actually offered, etc.
