  1. You're welcome. I have noticed Kane County's radio broadcasts are pretty good. Not sure if Beloit actually has such a thing--never checked it.
  2. Boom! Sano sends the first pitch he sees over the wall.
  3. http://www.allinbroadcasting.com/KaneCounty.html (in case Weaver does his thing and you need something else . . . )
  4. Haha, no, Marquis signed for $3 million. That is, a pitcher who is easily replaceable from within for $500k gets $3 million.
  5. I promise, I am done talking about Span and trading him . . . . With regard to Benson, this kind of thing is precisely why I like rational promotions late in the season. Benson belonged in AAA by late July last year. Maybe he wouldn't be struggling so much this year if he had 100 plate appearances there last year???? And Parmelee . . . oh my god. Ben Revere was harmed by not spending more time at Rochester, and I fear the same for Parmelee. Good for Florimon. With Mastroianni and Ramirez, I really like some of the minor league signings . . .
  6. Aside from homering or stealing home, how the hell is Span's run total not indicative of players batting behind when he is on? Good grief.

  9. Yeah, Lewis and Blanton might be more likely options. Dempster probably would sign a two-year deal, so that could be good.
  10. Fair enough. I like Dozier being thrown into the two-spot for his first game for excitement purposes, but I would prefer Mauer there. Maybe not with Willingham and Morneau out, I guess. I bet Carroll hits better down there, and I like he and Span still back-to-back.
  11. I understand that correlation does not prove causation, but isn't the boom in needed TJ surgeries coinciding almost exactly with the abandonment of long-tossing?
  12. Given the PR hit after this year's payroll cut, the decreasing attendance this year, and with money coming off the books (Pavano, Baker, potentially Liriano, Marquis, Doumit, Capps, and hopefully Casilla), I find it a bit difficult to believe that the Twins won't pursue one of the above pretty seriously with serious money. If not, that is a huge two-year drop in payroll, especially if the much-desired "trade Span for prospects" move happens as well.
  13. That's a great read. I guess I didn't even know that long toss was so despised. I definitely did that as a little leaguer.
  14. Since I am not of the mind that the Twins should trade Span for starting pitching prospects but should find one (JUST ONE!) top notch or next-to-top notch starting pitcher on the free agent market next year, I think it might be good to start looking at the 2013 SP market. Here are 10 names: Cole Hamels Joe Blanton Zach Greinke Anibal Sanchez Jonathan Sanchez Ryan Dempster Edwin Jackson Colby Lewis Shaun Marcum Joe Saunders There are more, but it seems like these might be the best ten. Keep in mind that, in theory, the money saved by not resigning Pavano, Liriano, and Baker for next year could be close to enough to sign TWO of these guys.
  15. You really like Lexi, don't you? I used to, but I just don't see it anymore. The Twins cannot wait forever for this guy and he is not playing well offensively this year. I hope that Mauer does move up to the 2-spot.
  16. Revere and Benson can play CF. But can they hit? Yet another person talking about Span who ignores his offensive production . . .
  17. Agreeing with gunnarthor means that you are disagreeing with me and then characterize my view as someone who thinks lowly about the Twins prospects mentioned. That is false. One or two high level prospects and two middle level prospects were mentioned. And gunnarthor also claims that I mean low prospects. That is false. Words being put into my mouth and that is annoying as hell. Packaging serviceable major league guys with prospects for value in return is not that crazy. Giving away your only leadoff guy and one of your three best overall hitters at age 28 for some pitching prospect is crazy.
  18. Things have taken a turn for the worse for Herrmann: Since last week he has gone 3 for 23 with one homer and a horrible 1/10 BB/K ratio. Herrmann is not taking walks and his OBP is plummeting and this is not a good sign at the moment. He's had 111 PA this year and the next 111 are going to be pretty vital for his development.
  19. gunnarthor, you are being a bit difficult here. I am not actually proposing a trade, I am indicating the kind of trade of some sort that might work. I regard Span more highly then you do, clearly. And I don't want to trade someone who seems to have no in-house replacement for someone who may be comparable to pitchers on the FA market in the offseason. I don't want to trade Span for a prospect. I want the Twins to figure out either A: a way to spend 10-15 million bucks on at least one great starting pitcher for multiple years or B: a way to trade multiple players/pitchers for one good-great starting pitcher. I also find the common assumption that Span is the best trade chip to be in no way clearly true. Different teams have different needs and it always changes. Danny Valencia and prospects isn't something to totally scoff at.
  20. Yeah, I mean until last week, Span, Mauer, and Morneau were all healthy. That condition was the main thing, to me, in making this a potentially winning season. What on earth? 1. Some trade or FA pitching signing MUST happen this year/this offseason. And it must be damn serious. No more Marquis stuff. 2. Everyone should just stop talking about the magical "BPA" in the draft and just admit that the top two picks should be pitchers and out of the top 15, perhaps 10 should be pitchers.
  21. This is just false. A team absolutely can trade a MLB player, a top prospect and one or two middle prospects for immediate or near-immediate value in return.
  22. And let's not forget that Pavano and Liriano are going to be worth something as pieces in some trade package. I do think that the Twins, if they are going to make trades, need to come up with such combinations of players according to prospect depth and MLB expendability (for the Twins). They cannot just trade away their top MLB players or multiple top prospects. They are not in a position to do that.
  23. Knoblauch? You mean the most under-appreciated Twin in my lifetime (31 years) . . . for Milton and Guzman? No. Bartlett? No. Yes, there is a point with AJ there but that was not also a simple rebuild decision but rather a this-guy-doesn't-fit-with-Mauer coming soon decision. A team has to rebuild around something. Span is a good leadoff hitter who plays good defense. That is NOT common in baseball. You don't give that up unless someone is clearly there to replace him. And no one is right now. MAYBE this is a discussion for next year. Maybe.
  24. Slama has pitched 7 innings for the Twins in the past two years. While being fairly dominant in the minors every year. This is WEIRD non-moneyballesque ridiculous behavior. Like the exaggerated stereotypical scouts at the beginning of the movie who talk about the sound of the ball off the bat and all that other nonsense. Give Slama 20 innings this year. It is way better than this Maloney and Gray fill-in nonsense. AGAIN, this team needs to stop filling-in with garbage players and promote prospects. How's that Joe Thurston doing???
  25. For instance, are there really no possible good-great starting pitchers available for trade A: Danny Valencia, Anthony Swarzak, Oswaldo Arcia and BJ Hermsen, or trade B: Alexi Casilla, Matt Capps, Ben Revere and Carlos Gutierrez? The Twins have outfield and middle relief depth in the system. That's all the depth right now (though middle infield is changing for the better), but still.
