  1. So would Keith Law have also concluded that a two year deal for $24 million would have been excessive?
  2. There are all sorts of factors involved in how players perform better or worse in some places and not others. See Burnett and Florida-NY-Pittsburgh. Also, I don't want to sound like some rube, but I wonder if Hughes was looking for a place like MN to get away from NYC, given his devout Christianity (also of note about this is Kyle Gibson's piety, and maybe this will be a good bond for these two young, promising pitchers?).
  3. Greg Maddux Frank Thomas Larry Walker Tim Raines Jeff Bagwell Tom Glavine Mike Piazza Craig Biggio
  4. This $8 million per year makes me calm down about Nolasco's $12 million per year. Getting these two for $20 million per year works out pretty well.
  5. Holy hell I have to eat my words.
  6. I guess I should limit it to two apiece. Since JD Williams is most likely to have a good season at Fort Myers and already has had two very strong seasons, I will go with Goodrum and Kepler who are due to emerge and have breakout years now. Pitching-wise, Gonsalves is an obvious pick, so I think I will go with D.J. Baxendale and Mason Melotakis, who with good seasons at AA and A+, respectively, will qualify as breakout seasons because they could also be predicted as soon in over their heads.
  7. Niko Goodrum J.D. Williams Max Kepler Gonsalves Baxendale Duffey Melotakis
  8. For those who think Pelfrey is better or even all that comparable to Baker, how do you compare Pelfrey to Nolasco? If I were guaranteed 200 innings from any of those three pitchers in 2014, I would take Baker hands down.
  9. Wait, there are people on this planet who think Mike Pelfrey is better than Scott Baker?
  10. The lack of strikeouts in college is very bothersome. Not to some, apparently.
  11. Approaches Garza's performance? How? There's like half a run difference in ERA, after all. I am not one to look at one year (2013) and judge. I give it a 4 right now, since Nolasco is basically a 4th starter. A 3 if Pelfrey is signed. A 4 if Navarro is signed. A 6 if Salty is signed instead of Navarro. Kazmir = 7, Hughes = 6, Arroyo = 6 (all instead of Pelfrey).
  12. Dismissed WAR?? Uh, never. I prefer BRs version, though. Pelfrey's WAR for the past 5 seasons is 3.3 or something like that. Nolasco's 6.1. And where did I say anything like that about Doumit and Salty? I have wanted Doumit gone for *months* and have said that I wanted the Twins to go big Salty or not bother at all at that position. Anyway, it's as though you have me confused with someone else. We have argued about the different WARs, yes. I don't really understand the love affair with this move. The train ain't rollin'. People seem to be jumping to the conclusion that the Twins are going to keep adding FA SPs. It's pretty doubtful.
  13. 10.8 WAR in 8 seasons. I am not sure $12 million a year is warranted. It would be good to be wrong.
  14. Anyway, I really want assertions, claims with support, and/or full-fledged arguments against 1-10 above.
  15. I don't think I am crazy in the thread I just started about what is going on in the mind of TR.
  16. Ok, but the Reds are not just trading away from a position of lack or potential lack. They have some damn good pitching. Anyway, third base is not set in stone for them. Plouffe has some good value there. Santana would provide depth for the Phillips move coming soon. Jones is young but a great risk for a team. Harrison is a potential good bat from 1b/DH at the least. I am not sure how an MLB player and some 3 minor leaguers with good value doesn't work here.
  17. I laugh at how you put Pelfrey above Correia and Deduno here. What? Anyway, one pitcher is not enough.
  18. Dave, check your inbox and delete stuff to get my message.
  19. Whoa. I really did not know that. What a weird thing. Keep it strictly to IP then. But thanks for that information. I have never seen that before and had no idea.
  20. To you Homer Bailey is in the top three of all pitchers either on the market or being shopped around? Really? I am not sure what is so egregious about my trade offer. The point was to offer some diversity. What about Plouffe, Harrison, R. Rosario, and Jones? You have to consider the money difference here too.
  21. Of course you can. Anyway is 4/76 worse then 5/85? He is not getting more than that, I don't think. Here he would have the opportunity to get to 4/86!
  22. Hendriks is 5 years younger with no such health issues and a comparable K rate. Certainly a better k/bb rate without actually looking. Anyway, yes, I will go on the record as saying that I would prefer the Twins give the 5th starter role to Liam Hendriks at $500K than Mike Pelfrey at $4-5 million.
  23. I am shocked by the amount of support for paying millions to replacement level pitchers. Even Arroyo is better than that, and he is OLD.
