  1. I pulled this from minor league ball From BP chat today: Steve (Cedar Rapids): Mau put a OFP of 70 on Nick Gordon. That’s pretty high praise. Is he that well-liked amongst the other BP Prospect writers? Jeff Moore: Well Mau is a ridiculous human being. So is Nick Gordon though so that doesn’t make it wrong. Let’s look at it this way: as it looks now Gordon is showing the skills to be able to stick at shortstop. That puts him in a certain class right there, and it’s one that’s filled with a bunch of guys, most of whom can’t really hit. Gordon shows a potential plus hit tool and some power, which puts him ahead of 90 percent of the guys who can stick at shortstop. Now, as Mau pointed out, there’s a lot of development left. Gordon is far away, so he’s a high risk prospect. But we assign OFP’s without regard to risk. That’s what makes it an OFP. Gordon is very good, he’s just very far away and there’s a lot of development ahead of him.
  2. Let's see, fly ball pitcher with Escobar in left? Ugh he blows out there Why not Robinson?
  3. I don't know, Blankenhorn doesn't sound like a major league name.
  4. He was supposed to take a step forward this year in strikeouts, not backwards. It would be different if he had a high ERA and good perpherials to back him, so then we could say he was getting unlucky. Small sample size but big enough to know he doesn't have the pitches to be a front line starter, maybe not enough to be back of a rotation filler.
  5. Mildy concerning? Dude is striking out 4 per 9. To put that into context, Gibson and Buerhle are striking that many out in the majors and that's almost unacceptable. Well, it makes them backend starters in the long run even if they do get decent results at the moment. If you adjust that strikeout ratio to the majors, you probably get a Blaine Boyer and that's being generous. He's going to fall out of a lot of top 100 lists if this continues. He got a free pass last year because he was just getting used to professional baseball but if he doesn't get swings and misses in the low minors, hes doomed.
  6. Stewart is falling fast in my eyes. Could flame out in High A or Double AA. Getting knocked around and striking out very few hitters.
  7. They need to get a good relief pitcher up here for me to feel comfortable about the bullpen. Duensing needs to go. Good guy but not good results.
  8. Why is everyone so excited about Milone? He's still the same pitcher. Mediocre at best in the majors. Go look at his stats from 2011 in Triple AAA, pitched great, K/9 over 9, low walk rate in 150 innings. Same thing here, hope they trade him. Either him or Pelfrey. Heck do both once Santana comes back and if everyone is relatively healthy.
  9. Swap out Vargas and Pinto. Bring up that Lester dude to pitch in the pen. Do it now....
  10. Baez strikes out way too much and might never be a quality major leaguer. Meyer has a good shot at being a good bullpen arm.
  11. Well you cheered on the right team during the steriod era.
  12. I'm to the point i don't even care. I just chuckled when I read the news. Seriously waiting for the next player to go down so we can call up Doug Bernier. Top 3 pick here we come!
  13. Yeah I see a lot Randy Johnson in Pelfrey. I'm hopeful with his velocity and the way he slings the ball he could kill a bird like Johnson did.
  14. The 25 roster construction this past four years or so, has been as exciting as a wet fart.
  15. Players like Nunez and Milone do nothing for me. Let the youngsters play! Not sure why the Twins felt they had to sign Milone when they already have a logjam going on.
  16. Going to be a mistake if they give him too much money. He kind of came out of nowhere, who's to say that his production could fall off a cliff? Year to year is the way to go in this case.
  17. These youngsters need a lesson about being "Minnesota Nice." On a serious note, either Vargas has learned to draw a walk or the pitchers can't throw with a nickle because he hardly had any walks in the majors last year.
  18. I remember reading about him in a book that followed the cape cod league when I was a teenager. Kinda cool that he's on the Twins now.
  19. Hope they pick some starter with a heavy fastball and stick him in the pen. Worth a shot imo
  20. White Sox just got revelant pretty fast. Something the Twins should look to replicate. Last year, they only had Sale and Quintana. Now they got Abreu, Laroche, the Shark, Robertson and Duke. That rotation is going to be tough to beat especially when Carlos Rondon joins in soon. And even if the Shark does leave they can get a compensation pick, not bad for Siemen or whatever his name is.
  21. Imagine how much he would take home if he had his "wheels" still underneath him
  22. Milone also pitched in a very friendly park. I would rather take a chance on Medlen or Beachy from the Braves.
  23. Its a problem for every organization. My buddy is a Cubs fan and the top prospects (Baez especially) have trouble taking walks. Luckily, our top two prospects realize the value in taking a walk.
  24. I read this yesterday and they seemed less then enthusastic about Rosario. Time will tell though. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/standout-prospects-from-the-afl-title-game/
