  1. Valencia was at AA and thought not to be ready when they brought him up. And he produced, for awhile. I like Jamey Carroll there. Yeah, give Plouffe a chance, but FOR HOW LONG? Count me among the DUMB POSTERS--after all these guys don't pan out--BRING UP SANO!!
  2. The Twins management GAVE Joe this contract. No one held a gun to their heads. They don't seem to be whining about it. Have you ever seen the number of MAUER jerseys at TF or out in public. I work at a public school, and MAUER jerseys and T-shirts are everywhere. As another blogger noted, he IS the face of the franchise. I don't think the TWINS or anyone else thought he'd catch for the next eight years. He will transition to another position. Did you see the foul he took off the inside of his knee? I think it is admirable that he has played in almost all the games in one capacity or another. I believe he will win another batting title at some point. Most ballplayers are overpaid. So are movie stars. Get over it. The TWINS have plenty of money to spend on players. They just choose not to. If you don't like it, find another team to cheer for. I am so sick of the MAUER bashing.
  3. Could Scott Diamond be the pitching gem we've all been hoping for? I want to believe it. The Twins need a few things to go right...
  4. Why can they NOT get a timely hit?!? It is so frustrating.
  5. I remember watching a Sat. game on FOX with my dad about a year ago (he's now deceased but at the time he was 77) and he said to me, "Who are these yoyos broadcasting the game?" I said, "I don't know, dad, but are you missing Dick and Bert?" And he said YES. Old people like the familiar voices...I think we all do. i enjoy most of the FSN crew, but I do like it when they bring in TK or Roy to fill in for Bert when he's taking a break...a fresh perspective is always fun from time to time. Most of us read enough repetitive negative crap on the Strib blogs about the Twins--I enjoy these TWINS CENTRIC blogs a lot more because people are not so snarky to each other and tend to be less negative. Let's face it, even for us die hard fans, this is going to be a long, ugly, year. We need to find a few things we can cheer about....Dozier's promotion, Willingham, and the fact that Joe Mauer is in the lineup on a daily basis.
  6. FIVE RUNS!! Woo-hoo!!
  7. I have tried to remain positive. I keep thinking we have a good bunch of hitters and the bullpen is better than expected, but then--we get no hit, we pick up Clete Thomas and Komatsu, Morneau goes on the DL, Mauer takes a ball off his knee, Danny is in la la land, Butera is back, and most importantly--THEY CAN'T WIN A GAME!! I keep thinking that things will start to turn around slowly, and maybe we can work our way back to something in the vicinity of .500, but I'm beginning to think that is a pipe dream.
  8. I thought 2006 was going to be our year. I was so excited when my son and I scored tickets for the first playoff game at the Dome against Oakland. Johan Santana was our starting pitcher, Oakland was the underdog team, and we were going to win the first round for sure...or so we thought. The Twins lost the series 3-0. Sometimes things just don't go the way you think they are going to go. There were many talented players on that team. I also thought last season was somewhat of a fluke with all the injuries, and hoped maybe for a .500 season this year. Even when we got off to the awful start the first week or two this season, I figured we'd turn it around, and finish about .500. I'm kind of laughing at all the WS references in this blog. Heck, I'd be happy if we just won a GAME. A winning series would put me over the moon. I don't want us to end up in multiple record books for being the worst team in history. Sometimes it's hard being a baseball fan.
  9. I wish him well...hope he can get a hit off Weaver.
  10. Your article is right on the mark. I, also, figured a .500 season would be the best we could expect. We have some EXCELLENT hitters on this team who for some odd reason can't buy a hit. It is so disheartening to watch. We knew the starting pitching would be dubious, but again who could have predicted it to be as AWFUL as it has been. The new players are doing fine, especially Mr. Willingham. The RF situation really confuses me--they send Ben R. down, get Clete Thomas, dump him, get the new guy--Kumatsu? WHY didn't they keep either Cuddy or Kubel, rather than play roulette with these other guys, or just let Ben play, and let him figure it out this year. Mauer is a great hitter, but can't seem to get the big hit when we really need it. I was so encouraged by Morneau for a week or so there, and then....i don't have any answers. They pay many people big money to figure that out. I have been a fan for 51 years, and will continue to be, but, THIS IS SO HARD TO WATCH!
  11. The Twins COULD afford them both! They are making PLENTY of money and cut payroll from last year. They are just too stinkin cheap to pay for talent (and Joe Mauer doesn't count). Wilingham is a GREAT addition, but they got rid of Delmon, Kubel, and Cuddy, plus Nathan's huge contract....they COULD HAVE paid Cuddyer to stay and spared us Doumit, Clete, and whoever this new guy is that appeared today....I'd rather watch Ben Revere out there than this group of sub par RF's.
  12. Burroughs and Hughes both hit over .300 in spring training. They seemed poised to help the team. I agree that they were not given enough opportunities. There were certainly situations where they could have been inserted in some of the MANY blowout games to see what they could or couldn't do...I am BUGGED by the continual unsettled situation in RF. Revere, Plouffe, Thomas, now the new guy....they should have paid Cuddy or Kubes to stay.
  13. I care. I always care about former Twins (well, maybe not Delmon Young) especially the classy ones. Cuddy was with us for many years. He did a lot of good charity work in the Twin Cities and was definitely a leader in the clubhouse. Torii Hunter is still one of my all time favorite players, even though he doesn't play for us anymore. Happy to hear about Cuddy's grand slam. As I watch the Twins play roulette with a string of sub par right fielders this year, I can't help but think Cuddy would look GREAT out there, but i guess he was just too expensive (ha!). My message to the powers that be--YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
  14. We have many good hitters on this team, but they haven't performed in this series. The starting pitching continues to be dismal. I've always stuck by the Twins, win or lose, but this is the biggest fiasco (since trading Harmon Killebrew) that I can recall.
  15. College graduations are a BIG deal. Gardy needs to be there for this huge milestone in his daughter's life. It doesn't matter if they are in first or last place, he needs to be a dad this weekend.
  16. Burroughs has the lowest BA on the team...no surprise to me that he's gone.
  17. I vote for Puckett. I loved watching him play baseball.
  18. If I thought changing the coaches would help, then I'd say do it. But, I'm not convinced that it would. I think that if things continue like they are, the Pohlad family will make changes at the end of the season. Anyone know the stats on how many coaching changes occur during the season? I'd guess it's a low %.
  19. I believe that this is something serious...I hope I'm wrong.
  20. I've been a fan since 61 when my dad took me to my first game at the old Met. I can still smell the brats and see the cardboard megaphones filled with popcorn. Harmon, Tony, Zoilo....loved those guys! But, I've loved them all, winners, losers, champs, cellar dwellers...it is my addiction. I tell my kids that when they visit my grave after I die, to please leave a Twin's schedule. Do they frustrate the heck out of me at times--absolutely!! But, I watch or listen to every game anyway. GO TWINS!!
  21. I enjoy TK in the booth. Always amusing, intelligent about the game, and bringing a fresh perspective. With Bert cutting back on this schedule, it would be great to bring in and try out some different people, not just the FSN crew.
  22. I am sick of people bitching about Mauer and his contract. The Twins gave it to him, and when they did, they must have believed that it would pay off. I don't believe that they thought that it meant the gloom and doom that most supposed fans believe it is. The Twins have enough money to get us a decent starter. There just aren't any currently available. Ever see all the Mauer jerseys being worn around the state of MN? MOST people love him, and there is a reason for that. He is the face of the franchise. He is a good guy with a lot of talent. FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO BITCH ABOUT. Johnny Depp makes ludicrous amounts of money for every motion picture he's in...I don't think he's worth that money either, but I'm not going to bitch about it. SOMEONE obviously thinks he is worth it.
  23. Liriano and Blackburn looked really good in spring training. What the heck happened? I think Liriano might be better off in the bullpen as he seems to do fine for an inning or two. I don't know how many innings our starters averaged last year, but it didn't seem like they pitched anymore then than they are now (except Pavano.) A few clutch hits by our offense would also make the starts a bit more confident. It's a mess...
  24. Where were the Twins scouts when Curtis Granderson was playing for the Mankato Mashers (now MoonDogs) of the North Woods League a few short years ago?
  25. I sure had my doubts about his ability to come back...but, this is SO GREAT to see. Good for him!
