  1. This was my comment in a Nick Nelson post, a month ago, about almost the same topic. Jim Pohlad said last off season that he had a difficult time investing more money into a 99 loss team. I doubt 96 losses changes his thinking much. I think we know where next season's payroll is headed. Looks like two nights of golf league next summer It's not even Thanksgiving yet so lets cut the Pohlads some slack with next years payroll already. That being said, I doubt they do much and with Scott Diamond as the only pitcher on the books, not much will matter for next season. What they really need to do is blow it up sort of like Florida did. The interesting aspect is how and when they are going to throw Gardy under the bus. If it wasn't a guy's career it would be comical but it's going to be baseball's version of Pickets charge.
  2. I wouldn't have even noticed if i hadn't read it here. Can't believe a person would put family in front of working with the greatest professional sports franchise in the world. Maybe it's all about the Yingling.
  3. Your Hellickson assestment is a complete and utter head scratcher on many levels. But on the "flip side" they could always, and likely will, identify and aquire another Sam Deduno
  4. Would Baker want to come back? They (the Twins) never seemed too thrilled with him while he was healthy and called him out in the media at the very time they couldn't figure out he needed TJ procedure. Not to mention other teams will surely show interest in his services. I hope they say goodbye. He's never been durable, or as you mention been an innnigs eater. At this time I think they're better off with some of their younger guys or just about anything else. Truth be told, the guy could flat out dominate at times and I wouldn't be the least bit suprised if he comes back strong. But is it worth paying and waiting and hoping? I would put odds at 95% the Twins don't offer him anything after they reject his option.
  5. Most rookies, especially shortstops, struggle badly when forced to play in the majors. Both offensively and defensively. It wasn't all bad either in 2012. It's not like the Twins are going to compete next season so I have no problems with playing Dozier and I think they should. I'm shocked by reading his 2011 minor league totals. Actually those numbers are absolutely outstanding and I'm suprised he wasn't a bigger prospect based on them alone. That's better than anything Hicks or as good as anything Arcia has done and people in these parts are almost universally high on them. Very good article Seth.

  7. You need to provide an audio link because this isn't funny. Or maybe ENOUGH ALREADY about Tnish. It's understandable that topics get scarce in september for back to back 90 loss teams but he should really be praised for not being greedy and that he put principals before the all mighty dollar. Just like team ownership has always done.
  8. Im sure Tnish just became the Pohlads all time favorite Twin.
  9. Zero chance the twins sign him to a penny guaranteed in the first year. Almost zero chance they give any pitcher 8 million in 2014.
  10. Dozier's not much better or worse in the grand scheme of things. Thier issues at shortstop is only the tip of the iceberg. Starting pitching is so bad that it's got fans "excited" about guys like Sam Deduno. It's part of a larger issue that the Twins have their stadium and are more interested in turning dimes than winning. Business as usual.
  11. First lets see if he can get MLB hitters out and then worry about his innings. He's going to be 25 so its about time to get on with it. The Twins starters are terrible and they aren't likely to contend in 2013. If he's healthy and can't make this team as a starter out of ST you have to wonder. He has had a decent statistical minor league track record but not anything too mind blowing.
  12. When was the last time the Twins signed ANY incoming free agent pitcher to a multi year contract? Maybe they have once but I cant think of a single pitcher since the 80's. They won't this year either as it's just not anywhere in their DNA to spend. It's been said by those in baseball, Kenny Williams among them, that if the Twins would have spent any money at all during the last decade they would have won multiple world series. When they had great teams the Pholads and their Billions woundn't budge an inch. Now, with their baseball model in its depression era, folly is anybody to think they are going to spend any of their capital gains on back to back terrible teams.
  13. First time I've heard anbody say that Hendricks deserves a rotation spot.
  14. Here were my comments several days ago when I read something about Deduno ----- "Even after completely and utterly dominating minor league baseball for four years, the controll artist by comparision anthony slama never got much of a chance because they said he walked too many. I realize he's been injured and is a reliever but impossible not to come to mind when the topic of BB comes up." This is 2 different GM's he's played under so it's Gardy who's likely to be keeping him down there. Irrespective I understand if a club doesn't like a guy but have a heart and let him move on to another team. That's the most maddening thing about it. It's worse than Bernardo Brito.
  15. It will be ok gentleman Mr. Law has over projocted many more prospects than he has under. A very safe answer from him and I wonder how many starts he actually seen as opposed to jumping on fan graphs. Mr. Hagler is right in that there seems to be something there with the the debth of Diamonds pitches. He pitches like he's 6'7". BTW Jack Morris had a k rate (5.9) below league average in 91 and nobody thinks of him anything but an ace #1 type.
  16. Why would they shut down Diamond? Recomended max innings? Is this in the field manual? Doesn't he need to get used to pitching a 6 month season? What about next year? Will holding him back this september help him next september or beyond if needed? Dhokay! Wouldn't the same be true for all their pitchers who have been starting throughout the season like Hendricks? I'm sure the Twins probably have discussed the IP with Diamond but I think it's silly. It's not like they have a track record of healthy pitchers.
  17. Shame on the Twins for letting this guy get his tits lit up for 4 months. He should have been protected better by this orginization. The wheels seem to come off a bit more every day for the Twins. Hopefully they wont let another decade go by to worry about winning again.
  18. Even after completely and utterly dominating minor league baseball for four years, the controll artist by comparision anthony slama never got much of a chance because they said he walked too many. I realize he's been injured and is a reliever but impossible not to come to mind when the topic of BB comes up.
  19. Who cares how bad he is in right field, lets see how he hits in 6 weeks and play him at 1st next year. It's not exactly like he's never played out there or will be exposed like a bad shortstop. If you can't give him OF playing time in a year like this it will never happen. They're going to move Morneau so they better see what they got out of this cat because he will be at 1st next season. If he hits in these next 6 weeks he's probably Mccarty proof because it's not like the league has never seen him before.
  20. Not exactly the Tsunami here in terms of trying to put things in the past. I think the Twins and their fans will be able to pick up the pieces and move on.
  21. About the only 3rd starter type the Twins have any luck with as of late. I like how he cuts his fastball forcing righties to respect that part of the zone which also reminds me of Buerhle. I think that as much as anything is his key to pitching so well.
  22. What ever happened to Buxton not having power? Just a look at his body profile and projecting it into his 20's makes it obvious how strong this guy will be.
  23. Seth, Do you still do the podcasts?
  24. Doesn't suprise me that the Twins would sign a Goldsmith. Could be very valuable for the pholads.
