  1. Guys like Gleeman were critical of not moving him. For the reasons pointed out here is why they couldn't.
  2. I don't know. Why wouldn't they just put him on the DL instead of making him struggle. Couldn't imagine it being very easy hitting in any league with a wrist/hand injury. Does exit velocity just simply decrease as a byproduct of a struggling hitter?
  3. "Ryan is likely to step down and take the heat off the organization for making a change at GM if an improbable rebound doesn't occur. But what will that change? It's not like he's going to be replaced with a different guy with a philosophy that isn't lock stock and barrel with the same Twins cliches. They are reluctant to bring in players from outside their ball team much less someone from the outside to lead the front office. Most of the players are not performing like anyone expected. Worse, most are performing well below expectations. They have a lot of young players in over their heads to begin with. Plus key injuries. It's kind of just that simple and given so much youth not that unexpected." My comment on the same topic last week
  4. Ryan is likely to step down and take the heat off the organization for making a change at GM if an improbable rebound doesn't occur. But what will that change? 5. Back in my day they use to call SLU the "Princeton of the Pearl River". Now days they call it Slow Learners University. GO LIONS!
  6. As soon they get pitchers with velocity and better stuff they will start missing bats. Doesn't matter who the pitching coach is. Attacking the zone is a philosophy i guess.. Not just Andy's deal but getting k's more consistently is infinitely more dependent on pitching ability than pitching to contact, attacking the zone or who the pitching coach is.
  7. A mid-30's, a buy low and a forty year old. Surely there's a Zumaya or Harden to placate fans too. Nothing like a good hot stove.
  8. Where is the proof that Souhan was wrong or was ingaging in ridiculous exaggeration? None was provided in the piece. You stop short of calling him an outright lier so you must be refrencing something very specific. Was it a bone bruise? A little context to support your claim of his ridiculous exaggeration. please and thanks.
  9. I'm totally stoked that Molitor has been named manager. In fact, I was disapointed when Gardy got it over him a decade ago plus. When you listen to him over the years it's been obvious he has insights that most other people in baseball don't have. He's an athourity in his field, communicates effectively and respect flows to him. His colleagues and contempoaries rave about his baseball IQ. Oh, and he's a HOF and has experience in four different orginizations in different roles. I'm not sure you can be more pre qualified than he is. Is he going to be perfect? Nope, he's new to his job and like anyone else with a new job he won't be. He has every single pre-requisite you could possibly want in a manger other than he has never managed and has been overplayed as if he's spent the last 10 years on the dark side of the moon.
  10. I have no problem with Molly, obviously he's a baseball expert. He'll likely be about as good as his players playing for him. Just a statement of fact. What bothers me is that he was a leading candidate after TK left. It seemed like nobody else got a real serious look this time. The Joe Madden stuff was quite silly. I wonder if they pegged Molly as the next manager the day they hired Gardy. Love to see them think outside the box just once. Get ready Doug M. You're next.
  11. Terry Ryan is nothing more than an on-field p.r. mouthpiece for the tight wad pohlads. The Twins are run like other multi million dollar-cut throat coorperations..They just happen to be a baseball team. Their number one concern is always to sqeak out as much profit as they possible can....before all others.... make as much money as they can. All teams are like this to some extent. But it's the ownerships top priority here. It's in part why they have more money than most of us cant even wrap our minds around. They are friggin great business people. It's always a business and when they happen to be good is the equivlent to a stock dividend being high to the investor aka the fan. Or profit sharing to the employees. Gardy didn't get fired because they thought he suddenly couldn't manage the game or didn't shift or platoon or lost respect from his players. If that were the case he would have been fired years ago. He was fired to placate the shareholders..aka the fans. He was thrown under the bus. Ryan out-ranks him and for the time being is saved.
  12. Resign in tampa to go to Minnesota. Ialto coming! The vivid imaginations are like reading comedy. The 90 loss seasons, cold weather, bad players, and penny pinching owner may be too much for a repected mlb manager looking to upgrade to look past.
  13. I don't follow the minor leagues like I once did but isn't the FSL notorious for not allowing homeruns? I see this Walker has 20 with 2 months to go. They have lots of decisions to make in the next months with all the 1b/dh/corner OF spots in the majors or inching closer.
  14. I hope they rush him. He's questionably listed at 6' and likely to break down with that frame. I know they're some exceptions like Pedro Martinez and Tom Gordon but very few 6' right handed pitchers have pitching careers much less long ones.
  15. He's also great trade bait. If 15 other team wanted his services now they will want them in 6 weeks too if he plays well.
  16. Nice article and I'm glad the law geeks are fighting this but they are going up against a gorilla. I hope they are successful as cable and satellite basically have a legal monopoly thanks to Congress. I would have no use for cable or satellite if they succeed.
  17. Dollars and years trumps. Many of the mid-lower level FA are cashing in for the first time. Players get tremendous pressure from agents and the union to take the highest bid. More money means bigger commitment and aside from a bunch more zero's they are just like most other people, wanting to go where they feel the most wanted.
  18. I saw the puff piece headline and didn't need to read the by line. This 3 year old and counting failed project is not Gardy's fault alone but a little turnover in a business is healthy. Especially when the subject despite being liked, hard working and all other glowing attributes you pointed out has failed at his job 3 years in a row. If they would have had this loyalty to Cuddy, Hunter and the list of departed players that that seemed to share Gardy's work eithic and professionalism maybe they could have avoided this dark hole in their history.
  19. Interesting, Wonder what the war of Twins players departing via free agency would be compared to those they acquired.
  20. He has an awful lot of timing mechanisms going on right now which screams streakiness. Any event he's a great looking hitter taking extremely professional AB's. He's the right man at the right time.
  21. Terry Ryan is the fall guy for the Pohlad's cheap ways. TR is okay with that and knows it's part of the deal. He will spend close to every penny the Pohlads allow him saving room for incentives, waiver pick ups, etc. It's folly to believe TR spends less than the Pohlads allow him. To put it simply, Bill Smith wouldn't be that person and was disillusioned (like many) by what the new stadium revenue really meant and hence the "philosophical indifferences" and he was out. It's that simple.
  22. The only remaining question is whether General Manager Terry Ryan and others running the organization are prepared to let go of the last remaining tie to the old culture and spend that money Is Terry Ryan really the one reluctant to spend money on FA contracts or is he just taking the heat for the Pohlads who don't want to spend the money? After all it was Jim Pohlad who said in a Phil Mackey piece that he couldn't justify spending more money on a 90 loss team. Makes you wonder what exactly the "philosophical indifferences" were with Billy Smith.
  23. Would you give up an impact arm for nothing more than a solid 2b prospect?
  24. Get back to me when for the first time they sign a single meaningful player where they had to outbid other teams. Like a meaningful player before Xmas. Delusional.
  25. Seeing is believing and until I see them sign a single high or evn quasi high caliber FA pitcher/player, where they have to outbid other clubs, I can't dream of them signing any player other than those who have lost all interest from other ML clubs. The Pohlads are shameful in their cheap approach and I care less about the club because of it.
