  1. Help me out here a bit - why is Rosario expected to regress? If anything, I see him progressing as he figures out how to take a walk once in awhile. Thanks!
  2. In some ways Gibson reminds me of Brad Radke and when you look at their stats there are some definite similarities and some differences. Similar ERAs, Radke's WHIP was better, Radke gave up fewer walks, but Gibson gives up fewer HRs and hits while striking out more batters. I'd appreciate any thoughts from others about this comparison.
  3. I think the establishing of next year's starting pitching rotation is going to be incredibly interesting. Here's how I see it happening: Hughes Santana Gibson Nolasco Duffey Here's how I see it around midseason: Hughes Santana Gibson Duffey Berrios With all that said, it's pretty amazing that Milone and May are not on that list as I think May will be a pretty good starter and Tommy Milone had a really good season (especially when you take some of those starts related to injury). I know that this will be a topic for numerous posts in the future but wanted to get my two cents since I would anticipate that the 2016 Pitcher of the Year Award will be slightly more contested.
  4. I'd maybe give a 2nd or 3rd place vote to Neil Allen.
  5. One more thing - Eduardo Escobar is probably in the top 4 or 5 hitting shortstops in the American League - he gets my vote for the guy that we believed in the least and came through big time.
  6. Great comments and discussion by all. Very interesting takes. I have two thoughts: 1 - I'm torn between Dozier and Sano because it seemed like in the first half Dozier came through a lot - just like Sano came through in the second half. However, since Sano wasn't here to contribute in the first half I would give it to Dozier. 2 - It is rather remarkable that Minnesota is over .500 and fighting for a playoff spot when their best starting pitcher is 11-11. P.S. Don't trade Dozier P.S.S. I am so looking forward to 2016 despite what happens this week. GO TWINS! GO TWINS DAILY!!
  7. P.S. And thanks Seth for all of your articles this season - I enjoy reading your stuff!
  8. Gibson is coming off a bad start but he had a decent stretch of outings before that game. Let's hope he can get back on track. Go Twins!
  9. I think the Yankees are going to fade and not make the playoffs. The Twins just have "it" right now.
  10. Fire Terry Ryan.
  11. Thanks Seth - good perspective. Let's sit back and enjoy the run and see what happens.
  12. "Throw him in the bullpen!" "Trade him for a barely breathing prospect!" The guy goes out and wins and pitches well. He needs to stay in the rotation.
  13. On July 29th I posted the following - I've added some additional comments. I enjoy reading everyone's comments on this great site and why I don't have much insight I thought I'd have fun and list five things that won't happen even though some people would like to see them take place. 1. Terry Ryan will not be fired. still stand by that 2. Joe Mauer will never catch again.still stand by that and hope people will realize that 3. Joe Mauer will not be traded. ditto 4. Jose Reyes, Cole Hamels, and anyone else making more than $12 million a year will not be traded to the Twins. too easy of a prediction so no bonus points 5. Jose Berrios will not be promoted anytime soon and save the Twins' season. the first part was true but the second part may not be Now, here are five things that just might happen. 1. Miguel Sano will end up with at least ten homeruns. i should have said twenty?? 2. The Twins will trade for two bullpen guys but not give up much at all. stand by that 3. Ron Gardenhire will bat cleanup for my softball team next week. he kicked ass 4. Buxton will return in September and be ready to go in 2016. was off by a few weeks 5. The Royals will regret trading five minor leaguers in the span of two days for temporary help. i may have been wrong but it is too early to tell
  14. I think you are absolutely right on the CLA.
  15. I have a Dodge Caravan. Here's my take on TR and the trade deadline...and I'm probably dead wrong but who cares: He looked around and kicked some tires but didn't see any catchers or shortstops worth giving up quality minor leaguers. If I recall other than Tulo no significant SS's or C's moved at the deadline. He maybe could have went for an upgrade at one of the OF spots but the Twins had guys in those spots and Buxton was going to be coming back. As far as starting pitchers, I'm not sure if there were any other upgrades out there without giving up a ton of youth. If I was the GM, I would have likely done the same and said, "Boys, 2015 is up to you but we will go all out in 2016."
  16. I think it is way too early to throw in the towel on Ervin Santana. History has shown that he will be worth his contract. Here's an interesting link to the salaries of MLB starting pitchers - it's not like Terry Ryan went nuts and started handing out obscene contracts for no reason. http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/rankings/cap-hit/starting-pitcher/
  17. Thank you for posting what I've been thinking - but in a much better way! Go Twins.
  18. I don't "hate" Arcia but I'm just realistic in that he is not getting called up this year and likely won't get traded for anything fantastic until he is consistently good. I hope that he gets back to where he was and gets even better. If he does that, the Twins will face the quandary of where to put him and that is not a bad one to have at all. Hopefully, he will light it up in spring training next year. Until then, I would just say that we need to relax.
  19. Although Oswaldo Arcia looked promising in 2013 and 2014, the fact is that he does not look promising in 2015. Despite this, many people have posted at various times this summer about calling him up. This is not going to happen. He needs to get his act straightened out or get healthy - whichever is the case. Until he does that, I would recommend that we give the Arcia obsession a break. http://www.healthcareatoz.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Breathing-In-and-Out-of-a-Paper-Bag.jpg
  20. A couple of years ago I went to Cedar Rapids after getting some insight from Seth - it was a beautiful ballpark that felt much older than it actually is. My family thoroughly enjoyed it!
  21. Mauer will never, never, never, never, never, ever be a catcher again.
  22. Agreed. Well stated. Joe Mauer will never catch again. Never. Not today. Not tomorrow. Never. Anyone who suggests that he should probably received a few smacks upside the head in the past. Again, Joe Mauer is done catching. Please accept that and move on.
  23. Good story - though I would quibble about baseball at large not taking notice. I think players, managers and front offices notice.
