Unfortunately, something seems to happen to Sano every year and he has not shown much of a fielder. It would be great to keep him there, but banking on this for next year isn't wise. You could sign someone like Mike Moustakas who would give you a better fallback option who could also be a left-handed bat at first. Between first, third and DH, you would have plenty of options for both Sano and Moustakas and you wouldn't have to rely on Adrianza for anything but a utility role.

I think they really need to sign a third baseman. No need to get more 1b/DH's, we have plenty of options on the roster. Given Sano's history and with Adrianza appearing to be the backup option, they should be looking to add at that position.

I believe he still has another option year, so you can still leave him in AAA this year if he doesn't show anything this spring. Even if he is a .150 to .200 hitter after this year, his defense and speed would still be valuable as a 4th outfielder and would buy you time to see if he develops. So I would hate to see the Twins just lose him because I don't see any way you would get him through waivers. But I would rather risk having him turn into a star and you had to pay him an additional $50 million, than giving him $50 million now and hoping he turns into a star.

Agree, it would be nice to see him not batting .150 in April before you start offering him a long term contract. Plenty of time to offer him a contract and way too early to give up on him. But I do agree the FO needs to start signing some of the player to long term contracts. Just hope they do this for players like Berrios, Polanco & Rosario who have had productive seasons.

And with that, he should be getting MOY votes. I hope that's not the roster you want anything to do with going into 2019.- 284 replies

Article: Mauer’s Myths: The Hero Minnesota Didn’t Deserve
KGB replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Ever since the bunt attempt in the top of the 7th inning of game 163 of a score less game to get into the playoff against the White Sox, I've always considered him more Robin than Batman. But nothing wrong with being Robin. Maybe he was the hero we deserved.- 49 replies

I had a couple hopes with the new front office, they would give the younger players opportunities and stop the rolling out 30+ players. Based on the waiver claims and who they are bring up, doesn't look like this is going to happen. Also I hoped with the increased analytical approach, they would be able to find valuable players we have been missing. Based on who we have picked up and signed compared to who we have lost, it looks like we are losing better players than we are picking up. With the draft, I expected in 2017 when you have the first overall pick, you should have a good draft. It will be interesting to see how Ryan's 2016 draft compares to the 2018 draft since both we middle of the draft. It's probably too early to give up on the FO, but early returns don't look good. They were inexperienced when hired, so hopefully this is just a learning curve. This offseason will be big to show they have a idea how to build a roster.

Article: Twins Daily Roundtable: Grading the Front Office
KGB replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At this point, the best grade you can give them is incomplete. The prospect's they have added will take sometime to determine if they made smart pickups. The free agency pickup this year turned out to be bad additions and they didn't seem to add depth in areas that went bad this year. Their handing of the waiver wire, rule 5 and roster has not been good. We have lost better players than we picked up through these processes. They seem to have very little faith in the pitchers in the high minors and keep running out waiver wire adds. Time will tell if they were right or wrong on these prospects. -
Article: Twins Daily Roundtable: Grading Molitor
KGB replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It was Falvey's decision last off season and he gave him a 3 year extension. If the Pohlad's made him give him the extension, then it's shows he not a strong GM. Molitor is an okay manager, but he doesn't pick the players on the roster or is in charge of player development. -
Article: BREAKING: Twins Trade Rodney To A's
KGB replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You would think if trading Rodney was part of the plan, they would have gotten a better return prior to the deadline. Considering his salary and that he has not been ineffective, someone was going to claim him and limit your trade options. -
It would be great to lock in a good rotation. Last year I believe that was the hope with the young lineup. If I remember correctly, the front office said they had contract discussions with 5 of the players but nobody signed. I wonder if the FO is low-balling the offers or if the players now feel it better to bet on themselves and not sign these types of contracts.

Article: Minnesota Twins 2018 Trade Deadline Report Card
KGB replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Like grading a teams draft pick after a draft, it's fun, when you trade for prospects, you need to really look back in a couple years. I think gunnarthor had an excellent review of the moves from last year, so we'll have to check back on these moves to see if they brought value back to the Twins. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/30858-reviewing-last-years-fo-trades/ But for fun, here's my reviews of the trades Escobar trade is the most difficult for me. He seemed to be the sole of the clubhouse. I hope the FO makes getting him back as a FA one of their top priorities. Pressly has potential to be an impact pitcher, but his talent was maddening. I think this is an example of trading at maximum value. I think it's a good move and the trade brought back good value. Duke trade is really a nothing trade. Dejong probably get's DFA at year end and Costello is going to be a good minor league player. The real value is opening up the roster spot for this year, now let hope the FO uses it wisely. Lynn is another addition by subtraction. Austin probably get's DFA also at year end and Rijo replaces the prospect we sent the Yankee's in the Cave trade. Opening up the starts for the rest of the year is the biggest value. Dozier is a breakup the was going to happen. I doubt any of the players will be of much value. The only downside is if we are watching Forsythe (or Motter) play second in September.- 127 replies

Article: Twins Trade Lance Lynn to Yankees
KGB replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'll admit I'm not smarter than the FO, but when you have the first overall draft pick, shouldn't you have a strong draft? Didn't the Twins have about the same record last year and the FO sold off instead of adding? Kind of hard to give them a lot of credit for last years run if they were selling at the deadline. If you have a great offseason, shouldn't you have an improved record? As far as the best trade deadline deal, give me the Shannon Stewart deal. Quality over quantity any time. When you get class A players, you will need time to evaluate the trades, so we'll have to wait to see if these are good trades. I have no problem with the FO making these moves, just seems like we have a very low bar for the FO. Just make moves any moves. -
Article: Twins Trade Lance Lynn to Yankees
KGB replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Every year the Yankees sign 4-5 top 30 international prospects. They trade marginal players for international bonus cap, then trade for a starter from the Twins to help with the current season and have the Twins send them a couple million in the trade. Then use that money to pay for the international players. In a couple years, you can use that prospect you spend $500,000 on in a trade (only 18 year old, lot's of potential) and save millions in MLB salary (also saving the Yankees tax dollars). I think they have figured out the system. -

Article: Front Office Flop for the Twins?
KGB replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Molitor is always the one getting blamed for development, when I would think most of the development would be done by the coaching staff. All the coaching staff have been FO hires. Last year we gave the coaches credit for Buxton development, this year it's Molitor's fault for the failures? If the FO didn't believe in Molitor or disagreed with his manager philosophy and still gave him a 3 year extension, it doesn't say anything positive about the FO.- 134 replies

Article: Deadline Doesn't Make Deals Imminent for Twins
KGB replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not blaming the FO, it's only fair that they be given more time to build the system they want. But you can't say they had a great offseason when the team go's backward's. Seems like people want to give them credit when something positive happens and blame someone else when something negative happens. Either they are in charge and accountable for the results or there not and we should have just kept Terry Ryan. -
Article: Deadline Doesn't Make Deals Imminent for Twins
KGB replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The players can't be considered talented, if they don't perform on the field. A strong off season can't be judged by winning the winter meetings, it has to be judged by winning games. -
Is it still silly?
