  1. I think his foot came off the bag after it was on the bag. Either way, very close.
  2. It's hard to tell if the 3rd baseman's foot was on the bag, which is why the call probably stands.
  3. I thought Suzuki was out at 3rd base in live play.
  4. Here is Escobar's chance...
  5. No. It was in a previous thread. You said that Escobar was a better hitter than Florimon, then said that Escobar's glove is just as good, then in brackets you said (probably better) or something along those lines (I am just paraphrasing). You are right about Escobar's hitting, but Escobar is not as good or better than Florimon defensively. Before the season started you claimed that Gibson was better than Deduno, when Deduno was arguably the Twins best starting pitcher (or 2nd best), while Gibson couldn't even hack it at the MLB level. This year is different. Gibson looks just fine and Deduno is struggling. Your post would have made more sense to me if you said it after Gibson's first start this year, but you didn't. My point is that you may not be wrong about Vielma. I haven't seen the guy play yet. But when you go making claims that Escobar is just as good defensively if not better than Florimon, it completely discredits your eye for talent. In other words, I am going to take your claim that Vielma's defense ("glove") is already better than Florimon's with a large grain of salt until he proves it at the MLB level. But I do hope you are right and I hope Vielma can hit too. We need a guy who can do both.
  6. Says the guy who thinks Escobar is better defensively than Florimon.
  7. I'm a Deduno fan, but he needs to be better.
  8. And Pedro gets a hit! That's 2 quality at bats today.
  9. For sure.. there's been plenty of good players that the Twins could have offered more money over the years, but decided not to.
  10. We didn't get rid of him. He left as a free agent, likely for more money.
  11. +1 It's just not Correia's day and we have a bullpen full of pitchers. Sounds like Deduno is getting warm.
  12. That's what you call a quality at bat by Kubel. Take the pitcher into a full count, then drive it into the wall.
  13. Correia needs to get his act together. He's giving up way too many hits today.
  14. I"ll take the walk over a home run any day.
  15. Hick's is much improved over the start of last season! Dozier is struggling. I'm sure he'll get it together eventually.
  16. Florimon probably could / should have swung at that second pitch fastball, but I like how he made Kazmir throw more pitches and took the walk. That's what I'm looking for from Florimon.
  17. I never thought I would say this, but Colobello is a stud. He's getting it done on offense and defense!
  18. Great top of the first!
  19. Congrats to Chris Herrmann, I'm happy for him.
  20. I was just fine with JJ Hardy as our SS. I like what he brings to the table offensively.
  21. This is where we are going to have to agree to disagree. Would you agree that he got off to a slow start defensively last year? This year he seems to be solid right out of the gate. I believe his ceiling is #2 defensively if he has less mental errors than last season. He absolutely has the tools to be that kind of SS for us. In addition, him and Dozier have really good chemistry in the middle infield. They are only going to build upon that the more they play together. I am not expecting Florimon to turn into a Josh Willingham and crush 35hr's. I am not expecting Florimon to turn into a Joe Mauer type hitter and hit +.300 every year And I am certainly not expecting Florimon to turn into an RBI machine like Colabello. What I am hoping for Florimon is that he can be a scrappier hitter, a tougher out. I am hoping he can strike out less, put more balls in play, and even take pitchers into deeper counts. Trust me, if I didn't think so highly of Florimon's defensive skill set, I wouldn't be in favor of giving him more time to work on his hitting. If he was out there fumbling around like Nishioka, I would be screaming for his replacement like some around here already are, 6 games into the season. I honestly think it's wise for the Twins to give him some time to work on his hitting. Maybe it'll work out, maybe it won't. In the meantime the Twins should be turning over every stone possible in case he doesn't show any progression this year.
  22. That's fair. I understand that. And if the Twins want to go that route in the near future, that's fine. However, I'm just not pro Drew as much as some people are. I don't feel that the Twins need to be in a panic to go get him. However, I do think that it's a good idea to keep close tabs on his situation and other (possible trade?) options though, and make a change if/when necessary. And obviously I feel that 6 games into the season is too early to make a change @ SS.
  23. I agree. And the positive about Florimon is that people thought he got off to a slow start defensively last year. This year he seems to be rock solid from the get go. He's catching balls in foul territory that get blown by the wind, he's turning double plays flawlessly, and his arm is as strong as ever. The offense is producing. 6 games in and fans are ready to replace him. 6 games. As for Bartlett, he hasn't looked good offensively or defensively, but he's been out of the game for a while. Either you don't give him a chance or you give him a real opportunity. The Twins decided to give him a real opportunity (it wasn't my call). You don't give him a week, then cut him. At least give him a couple of months to see if he can get some rust off.
  24. Based on what I have seen so far, Florimon has done a great job defensively, but is absolutely painful to watch at the plate. I'm not sure if it's due to a late start at spring training, a slow start to the regular season, or if his hitting is going to take a step back this year. As painful as he is to watch at the plate, I'd like to give him a couple of months and see how things are going once we get into warmer weather and he has a chance to get into a groove. This is not to say that the Twins should not be looking to improve their team. I think it only makes sense that the Twins pay close attention to Drew's availability / situation and perhaps other trade options etc.. I just think we should give him more than 6 games given the circumstances (late spring start, strong defensive play, the fact that the Twins are scoring lots of runs). I don't think we need to panic yet, but I do agree with keeping close tabs on things and considering all of our options as the season goes on. I'm not against making some kind of move if he is still this painful to watch at the end of May.
