  1. Is it just me or does anyone else not get the philosophy of having Bernier play? We already have an old player that plays well defensively. If we are bringing up old players then we should have brought up Richardson and seen what he could do as a back up. I understand the Calebello move. We can show off if he has any value before the trade deadline and see if he can be a future DH until prospects come up. Any other thoughts?
  2. I think you also have to consider that he took over one of the worst teams in baseball with the worst farm system in baseball. We knew Ryan's game plan from the beginning. He has never been shy about the fact that he is building for the future. He did say that he was going to try and improve the team for this year and the moves he made were enough to make a lot of professional analyst think they would be better, not a playoff team, but better. Basically, Ryan isn't the the problem. If we don't want to build for the future and spend money to win now the ownership and Pres are to blame.
  3. What about Trevor May. He obviously needs more time but would be the best option to get major league hitters out. He is on the 40 man roster and when he is on, he is really good, when he isn't on, he isn't good. In a perfect world we wouldn't consider him for this year. But I think it is obvious that we are not in a perfect scenario.
  4. I really like the article. You put a ton of research into it. I believe their philosophy revolves around the innings pitched but differently then you would originally expect. Also, you need to take into account the amount of innings these college arms were throwing in fall ball. Their philosophy seems to be one that has a minimum standard of what an arm can throw over a full year of ball. Having dead arm or muscle soreness in the shoulder isn't an arm problem, its building strength in the arm. They believe that anyone that has a healthy arm should be able to pitch about 130 innings in a year, provided they are spaced properly. By having relievers live up to that in their first year as a pro lets you see if they can handle starting. As a reliever if you don't have your best stuff you suffer through one inning and your done. As a starter, what you do without your best stuff defines your career.
  5. I am going to assume much of you are also Vikings fans, if not just the casual one. Robert Smith was faster then Quadri Ismael! When people watched Robert Smith run, he looked slow and like he wasn't trying and didn't give any effort to his runs. People assume the same thing about Hicks. But when Smith ran down the sideline and people fell further and further behind him it was obvious. Both Smith and Hicks run/ran with a long stride which, unless they are running next to someone or being timed, doesn't seem very fast at all. I am not saying that he doesn't loaf it up (the play in New York where it sliced away from him) from time to time. But just consider that if he couldn't get to a normal ball, he probably was at full speed and wouldn't get there anyway.
  6. When they showed the angle from behind you could see that Hicks was coming from the foul side of the line to angle his slide the from front side of home plate. The catcher was well to the foul side of the line. Hicks looked like he was starting to slide when the catcher swung quickly to the fair side of the plate. Had Hicks slid he would have broken an ankle with the force of the catchers sudden movements. Hicks did his best impersonation of Domit and tried to not get hurt and almost hurt himself in the process. Other then that, I loved the article.
