  1. Did we mandate that people must have car insurance if they have no cars? So that's like apples to hay bales. Of course there was a "/severely restrict" there you ignored. Or perhaps you don't believe Obama would like to severely restrict firearms. Either way I feel you are incorrect on that one.
  2. This may all be well and good even if you ignore governments resounding success with VA care, but even all that aside, it doesn't sound much like freedom to mandate all people to buy something they don't necessarily want, which was the point.
  3. What violence does mandating everyone purchase health insurance stem? Or outlawing daily fantasy sports such as AG of New York. Truth is both parties talk a lot about freedom. Neither party wants it across the board.
  4. I get what you are saying, but mandating all people to buy something they may or may not need/want and wanting to ban/severely restrict firearms also doesn't sound like freedom. Both parties like to throw that freedom word around, but they both seem to have a very narrow definition of the actual word.
  5. I actually agree with Mike on this one. It was embarrassing for Rubio at the time, but he actually got much stronger as the debate went on and recovered really well. I think Rubio is going to have a nice showing in New Hampshire today and continue on towards the eventual nomination. I think the media and some people are blowing this up way bigger than it actually is, but we shall see.
  6. Well. I'm an accountant so at first thought I was thinking heck yeah I'll do this. I've got 3 kids under 4 years old so that would take care of their college funds. Then I tried to run through and do it in my head and got stumped 3 or 4 times before I made it to 250 and quit out of embarrassment/frustration. I'm not sure if having a 2 week old baby letting me sleep very little is the cause of my bad judgment in thinking I could do it or if lack of said sleep is causing me to not be able to count backwards like my life depended on it. Either way, I'm pretty sure my wife would be widowed and my kids fatherless. I'm glad you posed this question that way if someone offers in the future I'll at least hesitate before accepting.
  7. Fair enough. Thanks for engaging with me on this. I know full well when I venture to this side of the board I'm not likely to agree with much and likewise I'm not likely to make many friends posting my opinions and thoughts. I do appreciate engaging other sides of the arguments and I don't normally have that in my life, but it's always a pretty good bet I can find that here.
  8. Again though. The baker had served the couple numerous times. He only refused to take part in a ceremony he disagreed with on religious/moral grounds. I also don't agree that just because it is an edge case it is somehow less important. Otherwise we are left trying to figure out what percentage of the population has to be affected by this before we care, which seems arbitrary at best.
  9. Maybe I just don't quite understand the legality of the cases (very much a possibility), but I just have a hard time believing we wouldn't have the exact same outcome because of a nuance. However, you could be right and I would at least appreciate the consistency if that was the case.
  10. So if the Christian baker refused to put two women on top of his cake and refused to write their names, but offered them icing to do it themselves that would be fine? Just trying to figure out where we are moving these goalposts.
  11. I guess. If we want to label The Bible hate speech.
  12. You serious boss? This is literally what we just said that you thought they should have to do on the grounds that they decorate cakes for other customers.
  13. Sure, but when you remove something from it's context you surely realize it loses/alters meaning. You proved that quite well.
  14. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/denvers-azucar-bakery-wins-right-to-refuse-to-make-anti-gay-cake That kind of consistency would be nice, but unfortunately does not exist.
  15. I told you mine. Waiting on yours. Specifically should a homosexual baker be allowed to refuse service to a couple wanting a cake that says "One True Marriage"?
  16. I almost left that example out because I figured someone would pick it up and run with it. Should have known better. Noticed you conveniently ignored all other parts of the arguments and questions. Speaking of red herrings.
  17. Should a homosexual baker be allowed to refuse making a cake that says "One True Marriage"? Should a black person be allowed to refuse making a cake for a KKK rally? Should starbucks be allowed to refuse catering to The Center for Medical Progress? Should Chick-fil-a be allowed to refuse catering to Planned Parenthood? Where do you draw the line? Me personally I'm not okay with refusing to seat and serve someone, but I don't think I would want to be in a place that refused any of my business. I am okay with not providing services such as catering an event that you disagree with on moral grounds.
  18. Actually I quoted it.
  19. No. They actually had served them numerous times. What they refused is to bake a cake for a ceremony that they disagreed with. Totally different.
  20. Link to where someone denied seating a homosexual person? Also a red herring.
  21. One I will never forget is when the Twins played at Wrigley and Mauer was crushing it at that time. Twins fans traveled well because our team was good and it was a chance to see Wrigley. Cubs vendors outside the stadium were taken aback. However as we were leaving and every day after that they mostly tried to peddle anti-white sox stuff. My favorite was a t-shirt that said: 3 Great Disasters of Chicago 1. The Flood 2. The Fire 3. The Sox
  22. #1 My wife and I had planned a trip to Arizona to see some of her family and it just happened to coincide with the Twins playing against the Diamondbacks so we were pretty excited to catch the series while we were there. It also just happened to be the time when Killebrew passed away. My wife and I had met him a couple of times, as autograph junkies and he was always the nicest guy in the room. We were able to go to the funeral and it amazed me to see the number of players (both active and retired) and fans that honored him. That was when I made the connection to realize that these are not just on the field heroes, but they can truly transform and impact people when you leave a legacy of caring for people the way Harmon did. #2 I was born and raised in Kentucky. We didn't really have any professional teams that dominated support. I naturally gravitated towards certain players in each sport and they became my team. For baseball it was Kirby. I truly wish I had got to meet Kirby before he passed away. The joy he played baseball with transcended the way I watched baseball and single-handedly made me a fan of the Twins.
  23. Actually Atlanta passed on him.
  24. Agreed.
  25. Actually I think gun rights transcend parties also and is an issue where America needs to have some serious conversations rather than assigning blame. So maybe I just view things differently, but I understand how both of these things get assigned to the Republican Party. Again I think we agree on the issue at hand of what should/needs to be done so I think we shouldn't get caught up on this nuance.
