  1. You're exaggerating a bit. But you're right. He may not be missed. To me, it's a tough call. I would let Dozier be the catalyst. If you can move him for pitching, do it. If not, non-tender Plouffe unless he gives himself his service. I've said, I can't see keeping both. Plouffe is the easier and more obvious move. But I'd explore alternatives in order to improve the staff or even the farm system. But we may already have Dozier with no luck. Non-tendering Plouffe is certainly the more likely outcome, and would not be a move I'd disagree with. Dozier is a fine player too, after all.
  2. Tonkin with 2 0-2 hits given up this inning.... I sure hope Chargois is better than Tonkin.
  3. For the record, I'm fine with your route, I'm just skeptical about turning cost savings on one player into a better player on the other end, especially with year's FA class of pitchers. And I really like Vargas AND Park, but I just think if Plouffe doesn't fit the team, they fit the team even less...Hopefully Sano's about to prove he can stick at 3rd and it won't matter much what we do for DH.
  4. On the plus side, it's been several months since I've heard Bremer reference the fact that Tonkin is Jason Kubel's bro in-law.
  5. Short answer... maybe... if I think he can provide insurance and OPS greater than 100 for a couple years, like he has the last couple years while healthy...
  6. Really good at pitching out of jams or really lucky... Now watch Nolasco become the new Houdini...
  7. Time for Hector Houdini Santiago to make an appearance... Come on deeper sabremetric analysis, be more than a fun read!
  8. Just turned on the game, Santiago through 5 with only 67 pitches?
  9. So aren't you saying give away Plouffe for nothing so that we can play Sano there all day every day? Plouffe improved pretty dramatically the last couple seasons. We invested a ton in the kid to get him to this point. I think we mainly disagree as to how he easily he could be replaced by any of the guys you mentioned. To me, Sano and Plouffe aren't mutually exclusive. To me, it makes sense to have both since ABW3, Varg, Park, Mauer, and Palka are all incapable of playing 3rd. I could envision a scenario next season or the season after in which we could use Plouffe and wish we had him for cheap after watching him hit 30 bombs a year in Yankee stadium or Fenway. Why force him out when you don't have to? Especially when we have players that are more movable and are even more easily replaceable. Dozier can bring back a legit pitcher. Vargas et al may or may not have more trade value than Plouffe, but offer no defensive value to our team. If Polanco is only as good as Plouffe, and could bring a return, we should at least consider trading him for a haul and keeping Plouffe for cheap. The Plouffe money invested in FA pitching will get us Pelfrey back. If you're asking whether I'd rather have Plouffe or Pelfrey...
  10. So if I'm reading many of these posts right, we're supposed to let Plouffe go for nothing just so that the Twins aren't tempted to play Plouffe at 3rd every time Sano screws up. If this is the case, we shouldn't move Plouffe, we should move the management that can handle developing a young player. If Plouffe is let go for nothing, his spot in the lineup will almost certainly be replaced by a worse hitter. Why sacrifice a decent hitter (and capable fielder) to plug someone in who is a worse hitter (with worse defensive ability)? This is even assuming Sano can actually play 3rd. Unless we really believe Park/Palka/ABW3/Vargas are BETTER hitters by a wide enough margin to make up for the lack of defensive value, then I have to say, letting Plouffe walk for nothing makes no sense to me. Plouffe will not cost an arm and a leg, we can even go 1 year with him if we want. Letting him walk just so Sano feels more comfortable seems like a fairly delusional way to support the notion that Sano can still be a good/great/average/adequate option at 5.
  11. Sano or Kepler for the right ace might make sense, but unlikely to happen. Getting rid of Plouffe to get Sano in makes sense. Getting rid of Plouffe just to keep say Vargas or Palka makes no sense. I'd rather spend the little bit extra for the better player and insurance in case Sano can't field.
  12. You can open up Roster space without dumping plouffe. You unnecessarily limit your options falling into that mentality. If there's no market for Trevor, why not explore a trade for...
  13. It's not like esco doesn't have limited range. Polanco was my pick for short last season, but Esco deserved to keep his spot. Polanco has a very quick release and barely enough am strength. I think between him and esco, we're ok at short.
  14. I think Polanco's extreme arm angle makes his arm strength look weaker than it is. I'd like to see him keep that elbow a little higher, but other than plays in the hole, his quick release likely makes up for arm strength on most plays.
  15. I was thinking grizzly bear slips on a banana peel and slides down the mountain head first... then gets picked off 2nd.
  16. Come on TD! I need some analogies for what we just saw! Never mind.
  17. I dunno... are you still considered on the roster if your bag is packed and waiting for you on the stairs of the dugout?
  18. I remember Gardy saying Delmon wasn't that bad a fielder, that he just looked awkward. He was half right!
  19. Santana cementing his position as 25.5th man...
  20. Santana making a run for 24th man!
  21. Wow, Gomez... Thanks! Still one of my favorites from that era...
  22. You went to highschool with Jason Pierre Paul?
  23. Is anyone else getting suspicious that the Twins are considering Centeno for the full time starting gig next year? Not sure that's even a horrible idea, but the thought made me pretty nervous for a second....
  24. I noticed the arm angle too. Wondering if it's an adjustment to get more sink on the change or if he's been tipping pitches or something... So far so good.
