  1. Once executives & fan bases get as excited for transcendent type prospects like Sano, Buxton etc... even if its equal value they are always hesitiant & unlikely to part with them unless completely overwhelmed. The Garza/Young swap is a rare type of move.
  2. If Parmelee & Mastrioanni werent already on the roster I'd have interst.
  3. Dave St Peter on Twitter... Also I loved JJ as a Twin, very under rated player. Terrible strike zone eye but he could hit bad balls pretty well. Soul patrol! Im hopeful of Rosario having a very similar career.
  4. I couldn't agree more John, that's exactly the type of move they need to try& make.
  5. It always felt like Baker had no problem going on the DL ever. No interest here & thankfully sounds as if TR agrees.
  6. One of the reasons I wanted Anderson so bad was to put a lefty with real stuff in the rotation. I like Maholm a lot better than Pelfrey at the same contract especially. If it's the years & not the $ the hello Chris Capuano.... I'd be ok with giving him 2/18 all day long.
  7. While I have 0 interest in Montero, Smoak could be a real nice guy to slot in the DH role. He hits RHP pretty well and Target Field isnt quite as bad as Safeco. If they are looking for bullpen help the Twins could definitely join the mix. Pressley & Tonkin could be attractive package if they are. The Twins certainly have no shortage of power RHP bullpen arms coming up through the ranks. If the Stephen Drew steam is legit, Florimon could be a trade candidate also.
  8. Per MLBTradeRumors The Mariners are letting teams know that Jesus Montero and Justin Smoak are available in trade talks, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). The report comes on the heels of the Mariners striking deals to add Corey Hart and Logan Morrison to their lineup. As our Steve Adams pointed out on Wednesday, the signing of Hart and acquisition of Morrison called Montero's and Smoak's roles into question. While it's not clear exactly what position Seattle would be targeting in trade talks, the club clearly hopes to contend in 2014 and would likely prefer immedate contributors to prospects.
  9. Good summation of the climate so far, it really is suprising & you can't help but feel something big is building. If the Twins can sign Garza, this rotation is easily the 2nd best in the division. If the Tigers lose Sherzer next year, maybe even best in the Central. With all these pitching options coming to fruition the lack of offense is really becoming appearent. If you take on Papelbons contract, Dominic Brown is clearly available for young controllable pitching. They need a #5 SP & a closer and don't have payroll available to even sign mid tier players. A Corriea, May, Hicks, & Burton trade for Dominic Brown & Jonathon Papelbon makes a lot of sense for both teams. Heck they can have Worley &or Diamond if wanted as far as I'm concerned. Corriea & Burton are basically a wash salary wise for Papelbons contract in 2014. Also giving Philly a stop gap #5 & closer in Corriea & Burton with May back as a potential rotation option in 2015. Browns power would be welcome in the lineup & come 2015 could rotate RF/DH with Arcia limiting both players defense while keeping both in the lineup. Buxton/Mauer/Brown/Sano/Arcia is quite the formidible top of the order. Follow that up with a Garza/Nolasco/Hughes/Meyer/Gibson potential rotation, the future would be very bright.
  10. The way this off season is playing out I love the idea of just F'n going for it. If they can sign Drew 3/30 & Garza 4/60 while flipping Corriea, Burton, May, & Hicks to the Phils for Brown, Papelbon, & 5 Mill towards his contract. I know Browns defensive is not good, I had thought he was solid as a prospect defensively before seeing his defensive stats as a pro. He & Arcia spilt time at RF/DH when Rosario mans LF flanked by Buxton in CF, that is quite an outfield. By dumping Duensing & Doumit while moving Corriea & Burton they are not taking on any extra salary for Pap's 13M this year and only 8M in 2015 with the $5M taken back in the deal. Since he is not closing games his 2016 option will not vest. This allows the payroll for both Garza & Drew singings. Dozier/Drew/Mauer/Willingham/Brown/Arcia/Plouffe/Pressley/Pinto Hermann/Mastrioanni/Florimon/Parmelee Garza/Nolasco/Hughes/Deduno/Diamond Perkins/Papelbon/Fien/Swarzak/Theilbar/Worley/Albers Losing Fielder, Fister, & Peralta this team is going to regress. Sherzxer will not be as amazing although Verlander will be better after a bit of a down year. Losing Smyly in the pen to start this year will hurt the already poor bullpen even with the Nathan addition. Down goes the Tigers, down goes the Tigers!
  11. Maybe he can improve but he was terrible as a SS & it definitely affected his offense.
  12. This is where I am at also, give me Garza at 4 guaranteed years over Arroyo for 3 any day.
  13. It really seems like Garza is becoming under rated in this off season, it could be a steal to snag him before the Tanaka posting. I love the idea of signing Garza 5/75 with a 5 mill muyout on the final year. This makes Corriea expendable at the deadlin if Gibson or Meyers are ready.
  14. I wasn't as high on a potential Drew signing until I realized... For the 2014 season Danny Santana - 23 years old (AA) Niko Goodrum - 22 years old (A+) Jorge Polanco - 21 years old (A) With both Santana & Polanco on the 40 man I had thought they were a little older than they actually are. If Drew is signed to a 3 year deal, he will not exactly be blocking any legitimate SS prospects. If Santana blows up you can easily move a SS like Drew with 1 year & 12mill on his cotnract at the age of 33 in the final year of his deal. The benefit of signing Drew is not only having an immediate improvement at the only postion without a top prospect nearing the MLB roster. It keeps you from forcing Sanatana, Goodrum, & Polanco into the position before being ready while letting one of three to distance themselves from the pack.
  15. If this means Smoak is available I'd definitely be interested. TF is no hitters paradise but is a little better than Safeco. Tonkin for Smoak to repalce the guy the moved for "LoMo"?
  16. I don't think they are as high on May or Gibson as they once were. A big no on Pelfrey, geesh he was terrible by the eye test & has never been good. I'd rather watch Worley who I'm lower on than almost anyone on TD. If they can land Garza though I would be ecstatic. After returning from injury Garza was nearly unhittable last year. There's still legitimate concerns about the offense though. There aren't many clear ways to upgrade that other than Drew. The OF defense will be scary if it is Willingham & Arcia in the corners.
  17. Drew isn't a great defender or hitter, he is fairly good at both & 2 way SS are not easy to come by. How much of his power translates to Target Field is a legitimate concern. Giving up a 2nd is definitely something to give pause to. Your giving up a high 2nd for 3 years of a starting SS. 3/27 is a pretty fair contract but I'm guessing it will take more like 3/34. I would surely not go 4 years though. If the choice was Garza or Drew I'd lean Garza. If there's a chance they land both this is a team ready to contend with the Tigers who are due to drop off IMO. Losing Fister will be under rated.
  18. I'm sure they envision a OF of Rosario, Buxton, Hicks with Arcia at DH & playing 50-60 games a season in the OF. Davis makes sense to have at least a good defense in the OF until the hitters come along.
  19. Davis is looking for a chance to start so if he comes to the Twins they told him the job is his too lose. Hicks needs to start in AAA, if Parmelee starts with the team, Doumit has no place on the roster.
  20. With still being interested in another SP & now Davis too. It seems like they are intent on the likes of Gibson, Meyer, Hicks, & Parmelee spending another year at AAA. Hoping the players to force the issue with their play. Only Pinto really showed he was ready to at least start the year in the majors. I like Davis as a CF with Pressly moving to LF. Davis for some reason LF has been his worst position by far defensively. Arcia's your RF with Hammer the full time DH. Bucks role maybe overrated from a production state. Having a vet to work with him on the advance scouting, working with the SP game plan, setting up the right routines etc all those little things that can really help with the C position especially can't hurt if you have the $. Pinto could really benefit from that. I also think that is a role they should put on Mauer though.
  21. At the winter meetings the cash strapped Phillies are supposedly open to trading Dominic Brown if they can get some starting pitching. They are also looking to move Papelbons salary 2/26 left. The Twins need offense & Buxton will be ready soon. They still have payroll available. Offer up Aaron Hicks, Trevor May, Kevin Corriea, & Jared Burton for Jonathon Papelbon & Dominic Brown. Buxton will be ready just as soon as Hicks will be. Your future OF is now Brown/Buxton/Arcia with Rosario eventually unseating Arcia into more of a DH role. Mays star has dulled some but is still a talent. He goes back to the NL as a 2015 # 5 for Philly with Corriea as the place holder. Hicks take Browns place in the OF. Burton can close & helps off set Papelbons salary. Who can hopefully rebound his value in a setup role & the Twins can have a 1 year rental trade chip in 2015. The Twins would only take on $5 in payroll & with Willingham off the books next year it would be easier to absorb Papelbon if they couldn't move him. That solves the power bat lineup problem very cheaply salary wise. There should still be enough payroll left to add Garza at 15 mill fairly easily to replace Corriea. If you need to do a salary dump & give away Duensing & Doumit that wouldn't be impossible. Garza/Nolasco/Hughes/Deduno/Meyer (Gardy will get his way!) Dozier, Mauer, Brown, Willingham, Arcia, Plouffe, Presley, Pinto, Florimon. Let's play!
  22. I didnt realize that, I thought he was a year & a few months younger actually. Rosario slumped badly to start at AA and came on much better after the bad start. So his OPS was a bit better than the overall .755 he posted. The other thing with Rosario is he can play defense, I LOVE Arcia's confidence & aggresiveness at the plate but he is mediocre at best in the field. So prospect level wise I think Arcia & Rosario are pretty fair comparisons overall. If Buxton is a A+ Arcia & Rosario are B+ level for comparison sake. If Rosario can be a good defender at 2B I would maybe rate him slightly over Arcia, if he's a corner OF I think I'd place him a tad below Arcia. My point was more so people are too willing to give up on Rosario under rating how good of a prospect he is due to the very high level guys in Buston, Sano, & Meyer stealing the spotlight.
  23. I know he deserves another chance but I have 0 optimism in Worley, I've never seen a pitcher with multiple pitches that have 0 movement. Every pitch in his repetoire straight as an arrow. I would rather give Albers his spot & DFA Worley or package him with Duesning & Doumit for a backup Catcher.
  24. I would rather just sign Rajai Davis than give up a prospect for Gardner...
  25. Hahaha it definitely doesnt guarantee success but seeing a guy who historically hasnt had a lot of power continue to add some power across different leagues is still encouraging. Also while Ford was an average defensive corner OF, Escobar is a very good defensive middle infielder. A .700 OPS from Escobar would be welcome, from a corner outfielder those are demotable numbers.
