  1. Adding Jepsen was a pretty weak move regardless. Either go all out for a playoff push or throw in the towel and focus on the future. Despite what any of us think the fact is Terry Ryan is on the bad end of deals time and time again.....and he gets paid to make those bad decisions. There is at least a dozen posters on this site that I'd hire as GM before Terry Ryan and have every confidence that they could do a better job.
  2. I feel the pitching might even be more of a mirage than the scorching hot offense of late. Abad is regressing pretty hard and I feel like Kintzler might be next. Still not impressed with that rotation. But we'll see, can't deny the fact that they just embarrassed one of the top teams in the AL....it'll be interesting to see how they come out of the break and there should be plenty of fun rumors leading up to the deadline....
  3. Brian Dozier just had his first good month since last June. Nunez deserved it way more.
  4. I'm so confused..... While watching Twins baseball has become fun again I too worry that this hot streak may have come at a bad time as it could serve as an incentive for the FO to stand pat at the trade deadline (once again). Hopefully this does not lead to more extensions and less transactions but at least the 25 man doesn't look like the absolute disaster it did in the not-so distant past.
  5. I agree with all that and it's encouraging what the young guys have done in spurts but I wouldn't let it influence the decision to deal Santana. It would leave a hole in a position of need but it's only a matter of time until he's not an adequate patch for that hole anyway so I'd move on and address it in the off-season. I'd try May as a SP again but that idea has flown the coup of the Twins brass. And just to rant a little off the subject....if I'm managing a team on pace for 100+ losses and one of my pitchers is throwing a shut out, I'd leave the kid in the game and let him chase a little personal glory. Come on, not like there is a whole lot else to play for!
  6. Obviously no team should be written off a year in advance but this team is in the bottom 1/3 of practically every major pitching and hitting category available. They've won a few games of late but that doesn't necessarily mean their troubles are over. Even bad teams hit good stretches. We all hope they're going to be a contender soon but do you really believe it'll be next year?
  7. I'd trade him before he has no value whatsoever which could happen as soon as next year's deadline, you never know. Ya, they'll have to pick up another pitcher, or pitcher's in the off-season but next year isn't going to be the year they compete anyway so may as well get something for him and start freeing up salary so they have money to throw at legitimate ace options in a couple years. Not that the Twins would ever target a true ace in free agency but that's where my head would be at and I also understand the argument for keeping him if all the offers are lame but it sounds like there is a good bit of interest.
  8. These numbers would seem to support my theory that the Twins are a terrible baseball team and the FO should be gutted. We'd have to see what the year end projections for attendance and concessions are though for that to be considered.
  9. Any defense of the FO is crazy. Picking up Nunez might be TR's crowning achievement during his post Bill Smith era tenure. He's been on the bad end of so many deals there is not another professional organization on the planet that would allow him to keep his job. He's gotta go, nothing personal, but Pohlad needs to man up and do what is necessary.......
  10. Not sure if the TR comments you're referring to are the ones I recently read about how he doesn't believe in players learning at the MLB level and it's not fair to the other 24 guys that are trying to win etc. but is that guy thick headed or what...??? Sid also recently posted an interview with Pohlad that sorta implied he's starting to back off his support of Ryan and that TR may no longer be GM for life, so maybe there is hope....
  11. If Terry Ryan thinks it's a relief then odds are it's not good...
  12. Just for fun. Grossman Last 7 Days .160 .300 .200 .500 Arcia Last 7 Days .438 .444 .750 1.194
  13. Does Mauer even like playing baseball anymore? His lazy ho-hum attitude really bothers me. Get pissed or get excited or take some accountability for your terrible team even if it isn't your fault. I swear the guy talks to the opposition at 1B more than he talks to his own teammates. I have no clue what his work ethic is like but it sure seems like he doesn't care about W's and L's or perhaps baseball in general.
  14. You're not going to Tampa. Your boss is smarter than that....
  15. I don't think (most) folks were necessarily convinced Arcia would be a late bloomer so much as why dump his potential for nothing when there were plenty of roster moves available that wouldn't have costed them a player.
  16. Lol, probably using the term loosely but at least he's playing in the big leauges
  17. Take away some speed and arm strength and add a little contact and Grossman is basically Aaron Hicks. Which isn't bad considering it looks like they were fleeced on the JRM trade. I don't mind him in the mix but certainly should not be considered an OF cornerstone at this point. Of course either should Rosario so I guess I don't really have a point....at least there are solid options for a 4th OF once they find 3 starters.
  18. Despite how bad their lineup is the pitching staff is way worse and the main reason it doesn't pay to hold on to anybody pushing 30 regardless of the ROI. 5 years into TR's rebuild and they still have the worst staff in baseball. There is a lot of work to do there.....
  19. Sounds like Sano will get some time in the OF during his rehab stint so I won't believe that they'll trade Plouffe (or anyone else that makes sense) until I see it. The FO seems about as stubborn as they are foolish.
  20. Just depends on the return. It's always a gamble to trade an MLB caliber player for a prospect (ex. Denard Span for Alex Meyer). Nunez is cheap, versatile, and probably nets a questionable return. It's not something I'm passionate about though, really 50/50 on the Nunez situation.
  21. Trade Plouffe (one would think that's obvious but apparently not) and Dozier for the best return you can get. If other teams don't want them that bad then what does that tell you? The pitching staff is so bad it doesn't matter who's going to mash next year or the year after that (perhaps the year after that, and so on...) if the pitching staff is giving up 5-6 runs a game. Polanco isn't a SS and his strength is hitting so I'd hang on to the Eduardos over Plouffe and Dozier. If the goal is to be a .500 club next year, keep Plouffe, Dozier, and play everyone out of position and good luck. If the goal is compete for a pennant or ring in 3-5 years, get your young guys the experience they need and get some pitching for the love of God...
  22. The only reason I wouldn't jump to trade Nunez is because even once he regresses to his former self he's a nice bench player. He can play multiple positions, has speed, takes good at bats, and is cheap. If there is a clear cut useful return, then take it but I wouldn't trade him for a prospect unless it's practically a given that said prospect will play in the bigs and I'm not sure Nunez brings in more than that. Perhaps if he continues to play like he is through next season, his value goes up and can bring in something more substantial.
  23. In 3 - 5 years it's highly probable that Polanco is going to be a better player in his mid-late 20's then Dozier will be in his mid 30's. If the Twins aren't shopping their entire IF right now to try and make room for a Polanco audition they're doing it wrong... That's assuming they actually have a rotation that's worth a damn, otherwise it doesn't really matter who's playing what other positions...
  24. http://s2.quickmeme.com/img/99/99da79a1396394321b7830d9a2e292b3e1e3264f4c166a7093b2844df0c7ec20.jpg
  25. Wins and losses over the past 6 or 7 years would appear to support his claim as well as all the dead money the organization has stuck into FA's that haven't panned out and rendering them untradeable.
