I agree Mauer can't catch forever, the only argument I'd make is that it's harder to find a good catcher who can handle a bat than it is*a 1B who can and that's why they're at their best with Mauer behind the plate
There are no bad decisions, all these guys are replaceable and if Correia brings in anything decent they should trade him while his stock is high. I would option Walters if Correia isn't traded but anyone will do.
I don't see a lot of value in any twin's trade chips except Perkins but the bigger issue is the older guys blocking the way for the up comers. Twins erred on not unloading Willingham last year, his stock is way down but I'm all for trading for anything we can get with all these guys except for Plouffe, but he'd certainly be on my trade watch list for next year.
Morneau should be in competition with Mauer more so than Parmelee for 1B of the future, in which case he has no chance. It'd be great to get him back as a DH/backup 1B for 1/4 of his salary but that won't happen. Don't see him bringing anything of value in a trade either.
Sano may be going through a slump but it's*encouraging that E. Rosario is hitting pretty well at AA. I've never read anything negative about him and he sounds like polished player for a young guy. Any chance he lands in the MLB before Sano?
It's been published before that Diamond had a good bit of luck last year and his stuff isn't nasty by any means, especially if he isn't hitting his spots. I'm not saying he's the one who should get demoted/moved but what is there to lose by calling up Gibson, a kid with high upside that posesses swing and miss stuff? I don't understand the argument of being patient with a first round draft pick that is major league ready on one of the worst rotations in baseball.
I would send Walters down even though he's been decent. Gibson needs big league experience and Albers can get his shot when they figure out what they're gonna do with Pelfry and Correia, Gibson reaches his innings limit, or someone gets injured. I don't understand the excuses for not calling up Gibson yet.
Rosario shouldn't be far behind Sano. Personally, I don't think Plouffe is much of an infielder. I could see him and Parmelee rotating OF & DH duty once the suspected veterans are dealt away. I hope to see Sano at 3B at some point early next year
He hasn't been good but he's on their big league roster unlike the guys the Twins got in return. I'm not saying it was a bad deal, but it could be if May doesn't pan out. I don't have a problem with the trade though and not really complaining
Sooo..hopefully May doesn't flame out because Worley seems pretty crappy and Hicks could've used a year of AAA, which makes the Revere trade look a bit tainted. I was onboard with it at the time but missing Revere as of late and was always a big fan of his. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.
Damn, that is exciting. I don't see Mauer as an asset in the outfield in 2016 but he'll still be able to rake for sure. Also be a little surprised if Dozier is still around as he's a poor man's Alexi Castilla if you ask me but super stoked to see these prospects coming up over the next few years. Sounds like some serious talent.
I think Gibson is MLB ready and should've been called up instead of Walters. However, Walters has been decent so I think once the Twinkies are officially out of it they can release Pelfry and finally give Gibson a shot.
He's only 25 and nobody is ripping the cover off the ball on this team. They say hitting is contagious and there ain't many hot bats around to catch the bug from. He's underperforming but his potential makes him worth keeping around.
It'd be an easy decision for me. Gibson up, he's a 1st rounder, fans want to see him, and he's on the roster. If someone's gotta go, I think Butera had his chances and doesn't have much that anyone would miss.
Maybe misdiagnosed isn't the right word but it seems like guys are always suffering seemingly minor injuries that linger and instead of going straight to the DL theyll sometimes occupy roster spots for a week or 2 then go on. I thought the initial word on Devries was just forearm tightness and they were shutting him down as a precaution and they didn't think he'd be out long?
