  1. Thorpe has the most interest from me as a potential guy. Any idea where he may begin the season?
  2. If he goes off at an insane clip, say he goes yard every 6th at bat for 7 or 8 games, they keep him around to see if his performance demands consideration to be brought up north. I do not expect this, however. They need to get both Plouffe & Sano ready for the start of the season and unless they reconfigure the diamond, they can't have 2 third basemen in the lineup together. Sano goes down early unless some unusual circumstance (injury, etc,) dictate he stays. 3/10 but called back on split roster days.
  3. What happened to Hicks will have scared the bejesus out of the Twins. They will not do the same thing with Buxton & Sano and there is no way they end up in the Twin Cities after spring training. If either of them follows a torrid spring with a similar stint in the minors they could come back soon but not to start the year. Just my 2 cents.
  4. They won't care about Buxton's power...if. If Sano and Rosario are hitting behind him and batting in a hundred runs a year. Mauer's "problem" was/is that there is no one behind him to bring runs in. We need our star player to be Bobby Bonds. Rod Carew was great and accepted as such because he was followed by Killebrew and Oliva.
  5. Thank you for sharing a very sad item, but one that needs to be known. Our firefighters risk life and limb at any moment and are certainly under appreciated. God bless, Scott, and thanks.
  6. Say what you want about Buxton, but it's Sano and his almost unimaginable power that has saliva running down my chin. Also he has a fire in his belly that screams, "Screw this Minnesota nice BS!" I recall he got beaned or brushed back in a game and came back the next AB and went yard against the same pitcher. While rounding the bases he was pointing or yelling or somehow making sure the pitcher remembered the night's events. He as the potential to hit a lot of HR's and bring in a lot of runs, but more important he has the personality to change the clubhouse attitude. I can see him driving Gardy absolutely nuts at times and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Fortunately, for us, Mauer will be able to help him harness his emotions in a way that they don't become destructive. i, for one, cannot wait for his arrival. I think a big key will be what happens in spring this year. If opponents toss him nothing but junk and get a youngster who is anxious to impress to go chasing it could set him back. But if he shows an improved discipline the expectations and frenzy could become really nuts. Both he and Buxton have the potential to make it very uncomfortable for Twins management in spring training this year. Here's hoping they do.
  7. Has Meyer been invited to training camp? I assume he has but have not been able to confirm anywhere.
  8. This young man has unlimited potential and this summer will be like no other. The reason, this fall he didn't have any 290 lb defensive linemen trying to knock his teeth out. He's been free to work on his baseball exclusively. By September we should have a little better idea of how quickly he will be prepared to progress through the minors
  9. i'll bite. 15 taters in Rochester by June 1. Called up and then 30 more in the bigs. Total 45. Gee whiz, he is good!
  10. I don't think so. Granted only 1 has done it, but we have NEVER had a power hitter like this. 30 taters then 35 taters with a lot of missed time in the second year? I agree it's a stretch but everything about Sano has been a stretch. The stretch to me will be 120 BB's. If he hits that number, he's learned to wait for HS pitch and...LOOK OUT!
  11. As a kid I remember going to Milwaukee with my Dad & Grandfather and watching Aaron & Matthews. Then to the first Twins stadium to see Maris & Mantle. We had hopes at one point that Mauer & Morneau would be the Twins version but it didn't work out too well. it's potential only at this point, but Buxton & Sano could really become something special. Fortunately, this spring will give us a real glimpse into the future. I for one won't be surprised, at whatever happens. These are two very young men and they could kill the Grapefruit League or be killed by it. I expect them to birth demonstrate their potential and their need to go back to the high minors. i really wouldn't be surprised, however, to see Buxton look so good that he ends up being sent to Rochester instead of AA.
  12. Seth, a question, if you would. There are a lot of quotations attributed to Sano. Is his English as good as the quotes imply? Or are people ascribing things that he said by providing their own translations?
  13. Looking at the photo of Buxton and Sano, it's surprising to learn that Sano is 250 in that picture. Given that, however, there really isn't much surprise that he's as powerful as he is. Most impressively, however, he seems to understand the areas he needs to work on. He at least says the correct things about them. Is is there any doubt, however, that he will drive Gardy absolutely nuts? This kid is a type "A" driven personality and "Minnesota nice" will never be part of his make up. Frankly, I've thought for some time that we've needed some driven personalities on the team and I'm glad we will have one in Sano. As to his performance, if he can take his lessons from Mauer, Carew & Oliva and really learn from them he could do OK in the Grapefruit League this spring and go to Rochester and post numbers such that the Twins will have no choice but to bring him up very quickly.
  14. The Gophers just got a commitment from Mundy's Mill (Ga.) running back, Rodney Smith. An article from the local paper described him as an MLB middle infielder draft prospect. I couldn't find anything on him, but really don't know where to look. Any one heard of him?
  15. Roger Maris was actually born in Hibbing and moved to ND when he was young. The family name was "Maras", but changed it to "Maris". Wanted to pass as French, I guess.
  16. Thanks. Helps clear up some concerns.
  17. Ryan said over a month ago that his elbow was being looked into. Does this now mean they are going to actually wait until spring practice opens to have him examined. How can a GM admit that a zillion $$ prospect has a physical ailment and he doesn't know anything? As much $$ as they have invested in this kid they should be flying half the Mayo Clinic down to the Dominican Republic to examine him.
  18. Let me see if I have this correct. In Buxton we have potentially got Willie Mays in center. In Sano we may have Eddie Matthews at third but with more HR's. With Stewart we just may have Nolan Ryan starting. I'd say that's a good start to a sound ML team. This was tongue in cheek...but I'm still giggling.
  19. Could be an important experience for Buxton. He'll go to Arizona with a bad taste in his mouth (hopefully) knowing that in professional ball the money is paid for the money moments. When you are at bat late in a scoreless game and a runner in scoring position that's the definition of a money moment. He didn't come through tonight. The great ones are defined because they produce more often in these moments than the just real good players.
  20. What the hell does that mean. I believe the MLB contract pretty much says the Twins now own his baseball soul. I can't imagine he's off in Taiwan without the Twins blessing. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
  21. He did mss a start. I cannot imagine why they would limit his innings as little as he's thrown.
  22. Does Sano have some kind of nagging injury? Second game this week (I think) h's been sitting out.
  23. He's on a crazy roll. Hitting .425 in August and .465 the last 10 games. Last night he stole second and on the overthrow went from 2nd to home. Insane speed and just learning to bunt and steal bases. When he becomes polished it may be real scary for the guy standing on the mound.
  24. Stewart starting today! Big deal by golly. He's not had a bad start yet. Anyone know if he's on a certain pitch count or is it an inning count?
  25. I listened to the Bowie broadcast. Their announcer said that the amazing part of Sano's two HR's was thar he didn't hit either one real well. He said that this kid REALLY has some power.
