  1. OK, man. Chill out. Why are you so angry over something which you have no control over? The FO has made their decision. So, even if we all feel it's the "wrong" decision, we have to accept it. At this point, no one knows how this decision will play out. Randy has pitched well recently and only time will tell what his future performance will be. For that fact, no one knows how well ANY of the Twins players will perform this season. So, please cut your negativity and criticism of Dobnak. Life is too short to be angry over things which we have no control over. As you can surmise, I am a huge Dobnak fan and will always wish him well. For that fact, I have now become a Keirsey fan and am also hoping that, after the long stint he's had in the minors, that he's able to stick with the ML. I always root for the "underdog". Also, I strongly believe that all people usually do turn into something "worthwhile" in their lifetime.
  2. With his numerous injuries, is he not only "Buxton 2.0" but also "Kirilloff 2.0"? If his injuries continue, I wonder if he'll decide to retire in a couple of years. I also wonder about Caterino.
  3. Yes. It's tough feeling like you're standing alone.. I oftentimes feel that I am the only person who sees the "good" in Randy. Arguing with the naysayers is like fighting a losing battle. Their minds are set. They are unbending. They feel "always right". Going forward, I'm greatly limiting my future posts on this board. It's as though I'm "always wrong" anyway. Thanks for your support, Doctor Gast. And.......Good Luck!!
  4. Thank you tremendously for giving me some credit. I agree that not only was Dobnak .mismanaged, but was always quickly given the "boot" when he was called up to play for the Twins. Last year he pitched a whopping nine innings, all in relief, for the Twins. Sure, the first few innings he pitched were poor. But, not making excuses for him, much of that poor performance could have been attributed to nervousness from not pitching in the ML for years. I believe during his last six innings pitched, he surrendered just one run -a home run. Yet, after that, the Twins quickly shoved him back to St. Paul. And although he pitched well in two games in ST this year, once again the Twins quickly shoved him back to St Paul. In those two games, he surrendered ZERO runs across six innings pitched. Of course, the Twins already have their "chosen" young pitchers selected, so basically Dobnak is once again ",unwanted". You may be correct in thinking "some collision going on". When my son played little league baseball another parent told me that there was "politics" being played by his team. Perhaps the same happens in pro sports. .
  5. Aren't they all? THIS board is the place where the baseball "authorities" like to hang out!
  6. Doctor Gast: Thanks for seeing the value in Dobnak .I've always felt that the real problem with other teams not wanting him is his salary, although he not being an elite pitcher could have played a part. But try telling that to other posters who know it all. Many of them feel Randy has "no value" and/or is ",unimportant". Some posters must feel so authoritative that there's no reason to argue with them..They feel "always right". So, I give up.
  7. No sense arguing any more..I guess you are the "authority". Going forward, nothing that I could post would matter to you nor would you agree with. Perhaps you could apply to be a consultant to the Twins FO. I'll keep an eye open for any openings
  8. And from what source did you obtain the information that no other ML team wants Dobnak? Perhaps it appears they don't at the present time. So, do you know for.certain what the decisions of those teams could be in the future? WHO told you that he is "not valuable" WHO told you that he is a "negative asset"? WHO in the Twins organization told you that they "would have to "pay to get rid of him"? Or is all this just YOUR opinion? If you're not "hating" on Dobnak, then your comments are far from respecting him, in spite of you claims that he "seems like a good dude" and he "seems to work hard". Your comments that he is a "negative asset" and is "not valuable" are downright insulting. But, of course your negative comments regarding Dobnak are just YOUR opinions and fortunately don't reflect the opinions of everyone. And although you .at find my last comment here as being sarcastic, I hope you can find happier days ahead! 😌
  9. Thanks for your support of Dobnak. It is said that he has a good attitude and has done good things for the community and has held fundraisers benefitting St. Jude's Children Hospital and possibly other charities. St Paul manager Gardenhire has praised Randy and believes he will some day find a "home" back in the ML So as you said he should be respected. Too many people hold his contract against him. That contract was OFFERED to him and he wisely accepted it. The Twins took a chance and it backfired on them. So, it appears that regardless of his performance, the Twins are determined to keep Dobs in St Paul for the duration of that contract. I'm sure he'll soon be "counting his days" until he can leave. So, the naysayers become energized whenever there is a TD article mentioning Randy Dobnak. There are worse pitchers - like Trevor Bauer, who is still hoping to return to the ML since he strongly feels he has " so much to offer a team".
  10. Thanks, Doctor Gast. It's obvious that not only the Twins organization but all major league organizations attempt to mold players into becoming players whom the organization wants them to become. Many, many years ago, there was never the emphasis for pitchers to be evaluated on things such as pitch velocity or strike-out rate or WHIP. And there were never as many pitcher arm/shoulder injuries then as there have been in recent years. Now there are also tommy John surgeries on minor league pitchers! Today, it seems that a pitcher's value is determined in part by his velocity (a "flamethrower") SO/BB record and WHIP and other factors. All of this places more stress on pitchers and high velocity, especially, is causing more pitcher injuries and "burnout". MLB should not try to mold players into players whom they may never become. And as I mentioned in a prior post, Dobnak will never be given the chance to be a starting pitcher on the Twins roster since the Twins are into a "youth movement" regarding pitchers. So, I strongly hope another MLB team can give him a chance.
  11. OK I admit referring to Baldelli as "Baldy" is not very nice and I apologize for calling him that. "Baldy" is just my nickname for him - MY shortened name for Baldelli. It's not meant to imply anything negative. He is a good manager. There are people who have worse nicknames or have just been called worse names. But I'm sure you are aware of that. That being said, your prior post in which you said Dobnak probably got "down on his knees" was very insulting and "not very nice" to Dobnak. And it is very obvious that he is not one of YOUR favorites!! It's not his fault that the FO offered him that contract! You have to agree that ANYONE would have signed a contract such as that! Dobs could have just given up after dealing with the frustration of his lingering finger injury and quit baseball. But he wanted to try to earn that contract by continuing to pitch and to strive to pitch better. St Paul manager, Toby Gardenhire, praised Dobnak last year and stated that he felt Dobs had an excellent chance of returning to the major leagues. And I'm not doubting Toby. So please "be nice" and give Dobnak a break - that is, if it's in your nature.
  12. It's sports ",politics". Like Dobnak, Severino must just be "unwanted". Why invite a player to ST, never play him in a game and then cut him at first chance? Grave insult And why hang on to Julien? Sure, he's had pretty decent offense in ST, but his defense is bad. He caused the Twins a loss during the March 9th game by making two throwing errors in the third inning, allowing for three unearned runs. Like Varland, is he another "favorite"? He should be sent down to St. Paul.
  13. My thoughts exactly. I read about the "cuts" short after the game completion, so IMO opinion the decision to cut Dobnak was made before the game started. And he was given the chance to pitch in relief only so Baldy could say that he was given a "fair" chance to pitch (two chances). It almost appears that regardless of how Randy's performance would have "shaken out", the decision was made before the game to cut him When spring training was first started, it was my gut feeling that Dobs would have been among the first players to be cut. Simply because the Twins FO made a "huge mistake" in signing him to that contract. (After all, it was a HUGE contract! Right?) So as Matt said in his article, Dobs is "unwanted". He 's not one of the "favorites" regardless of his performance since the Twins are hung up on their youth movement where pitchers are concerned. That is why I strongly feel Dobs would possibly have less stress with another organization. And regarding player favorites although he is still considered "young" why are the Twins still hanging onto Varland, giving him every chance to try to become an "elite" pitcher?Sure, he had pitched "well" in relief, doing one-inning shots. Most relief pitchers do well pitching only one inning per appearance. Is he is a Twins "favorite" simply because he is a Minnesota "native boy"?
  14. Sarcasm gets you nowhere. Why do you resent Dobnak for being able to secure his contract? I'm sure you have a reason. Do you feel sorry for the Pohlads in that they are now $9M poorer?? Anyone (.myself included) would love to be able to make millions per year. But for most of us "commoners", it just isn't "in the cards". So, be grateful for what you have. Randy has done much for the community. He has made large donations to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital as well as held fundraisers for that hospital. And from what I've read, he is a likable clubhouse player. The St. Paul Saints manager (I forget his name) thinks very highly of him. So, don't be such a naysayer. Don't be so critical.ife is too short.
  15. You hit the nail on the head when you said Dobnak is the "unwanted" player in the Twins organization. He's been "unwanted" since he injured his finger. Since then, the Twins organization is regretting paying his $9M+ salary. Yet, they have their "player favorites" and have no qualms paying supposedly "star" players enormous salaries even though those players are often injured. The best thing that could happen to Randy is for him to put in his time at St. Paul this year and then to get as FAR AWAY as possible from the Twins organization and the many hateful, insulting fans (including the relentless naysayers who frequently post on this on this board and who unfortunately find it impossible to say anything decent about him. Then again, I suppose there are some people who are always negative.) At the end of this season Randy will then be free to either file for free agency or choose another career. I wish him luck. Go Guardians!!!
  16. Staunch Dobnak fan here. I would really love to see Dobnak sign with another team and given the chance that he's not going to get with the Twins. The small sample size he was given this past season as well as his jerking on and off the 40 man roster was ridiculous. At least with a change of scenery with another team would, hopefully eliminate the negative comments from the Dobnak haters. It's a shame that some posters can easily criticize a player who is not performing up to expectations and who is paid a relatively small contract (Dobs' contact is not huge IMO but I'm sure I'll get some negative feedback on that). On the other hand those posters withhold criticism for a player who is paid a huge contract, is often injured and whose performance is less than stellar. There are some players who fit this bill.. So, when Dobs leaves, who will be the next "punching bag"?
  17. Good luck to Thielbar. It will be interesting to see if another team signs him at his age. As for Varland if he has only one option left, what it means is if that option is exercised next year, he can be a free agent at the end of the season unless the Twins keep him on the roster? Sorry but I'm "green" at understanding a lot of the rules.
  18. FYI. Dobnak has own reasons for continuing to want to keep playing. And I'm sure he doesn't want his reasons broadcasted, like other players have done. Sure, he is being paid well. But that is due to the decision of the FO. So, if the frugal FO or ANY alleged Twins fan is going to moan and complain about Randy's contract, then those fans have a real problem!! 😡 I, for one, would LOVE to have signed a contract for $9M+ but it didn't happen and life marches on! In fact, I'm sure there are MANY people, many players included, who would love to have signed the type of contract like Randy did, given the opportunity. But ",opportunity did not knock" for those people. And, again, as it does for me, life marches on. What about the greedy players throughout the ML whose mega deal contracts make Dobnak's contract pale in comparison? Obviously, not all of those players, including some current Twins players, are earning or have earned that money based on their performances. And do the jealous naysayers complain a lot about the contracts of those players? Those players could find a legal way to terminate their contracts if they really wanted to do so. And I'm sure many of those players have or are considering doing that due to their unhappiness with their entire team's performance. So, I wonder who will be the next player to be frequently criticized about their contract once the 2025 season has ended. I imagine Dobnak will be thrilled to exit the Twins organization and continue his career either with another team or with another occupation. And the Twins fan naysayers will just have to select another unfortunate player to target. I'm sure the cycle will never end. Enough rambling here. I'm off my soap box -, for now.
  19. If you don't want Duarte and Dobnak on the 40 man, you're entitled to your opinion. There might be better prospects than Severino. But it's a known fact that a lot of prospects impress in the minors and go on to disappoint in the big league. So, it's anyone's guess how these other prospects will turn out. Just IMO, Matthews needs to spend time in 2025 in St. Paul to further his development. Perhaps he can be recalled later in the season. And I was not impressed with Festa's performance with the Twins. I'm requesting help from one of you people here. There was a comment (or two) made suggesting other names which could have been added to this 5-man roster dropped list. I'm wondering about Varland and Thielbar. Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to why they feel the FO did not drop them from the roster. Is it because Varland is a St. Paul native? Is he a manager or FO favorite? Do they feel he is tradable in spite of his lower value? How many times will they continue to bounce him back and forth between St. Paul and the Twins? How many options does he have left? How much time are they giving him to "figure things out" while in St. Paul? And, as for Thielbar, is he still on the roster only because they need a lefty reliever? It seems like Baldelli takes a chance on him every time he's called to pitch! Is he also a *favorite"? I'm not convinced that there are not "favorites". So, just wondering about these two players and any possible reason why the FO hangs onto them.
  20. Some clarification to my above comments.. When I said "Randy can thankfully leave the Twins organization", I was implying that HE would be glad to leave the organization and hopefully get a "fresh start" with another team. I',m sure there are some naysayers reading my original comments who would not hesitate to respond that they,, too, , would be "thankful " to see Dobnak leave the Twins. Can't expect anything different from those people.
