Well if the inference isn't relax, it's still early enough to recover and make the playoffs, then I'm not sure what it is? The goal is to make the playoffs. If you don't then there isn't really a substantial difference between you and the worst team in the league.
I dunno about that. I'd be curious if anyone has ever made the playoffs after starting 0 and 6. I'd have to think the list is pretty slim, if not none.
Well, Jordan Spieth is threatening to one again turn the Masters into a snooze festival, so maybe I'll be able to get outside and get something done after all.
Well of course he understands that getting on base is a good thing. But clearly there is a disconnect somewhere, as far as applying that to batting order, with these old school guys. How else do you explain putting Santana 3 games in a row, and now Rosario, in the 2 hole? Especially when you have a pretty much tailor made number 2 hitter on your roster (Mauer).
For the record, I would have been fine if they had decided to start him in AAA. But they didn't. So, since they decided to start him here I think they should ultimately let him get a decent sample size of AB's before they send him down.
Yeah no kidding, cripes, how many times do I have to disclaim that I'm not comparing Buxton to Trout. I was responding to a poster who was basically saying that he's a bust prospect because he has struggled out of the gate.
Some level of k's are one thing fireman. This level, that we are seeing this year though, they simply cannot strikeout THIS much and have any offensive success, period.
I have to admit, if someone told me before the season that Mauer, Escobar, and Nolasco would carry the team the first week I'd have said they were crazy. Of course, they are carrying us to an 0 and 6 record, but still.
Which I pointed out multiple times was to show how crazy it is to want Buxton sent down already, not to actually rip Park. It's such a small sample size, what would Buxtons slash line be if he had a 4 for 4 with 2 doubles tomorrow?
Sure, it could help with confidence issues. Eventually he's going to have to make the adjustments at the mlb level though. Buxton is an elite prospect. Therefore he will and should get a long leash to prove he can or cannot make those adjustments. I'm not saying we can't point out that he's struggled so far, I'm just saying let's give him 200 AB's this season before we conclude he hasn't made any improvement.
Ahh, the massive 16 AB sample size. How could so many scouts have missed so badly on this kid. Just for kicks, how did Mike Trout do in his first couple hundred AB's?
Can't miss doesn't mean he won't struggle. His body of work in the minors combined with his tools suggest he'll figure it out eventually. The one place he's guaranteed to NOT learn how to hit MLB pitching is on AAA.
Buxton is seeing most of these guys for the first time too. My post wasn't meant to rip Park but more to defend Buxton. Let's give him a couple hundred AB's before we talk demotion. His defense makes him an above replacement level player with anything above .600 OPS. Which, yes, I realize he's well below even that right now.
