  1. But wouldn't any/ every pitcher benefit from that defense? So, you'd still want the guy who puts less balls in play.
  2. Why do you only include AVG and OBP, and not SLG? Where does he rank when we look at offense as a whole, especially compared to others at his position? I'm not claiming he's toast, not by any means. If he can repeat 2017, he has value. But let's not try to skew his value by cherry picking only the numbers he excels at.
  3. Gibson is not a FA after this season. He still has another arbitration year remaining. That said, the suggestion that he's not going anywhere just about ruined my day. Ok, not really, but he's not very good, and I don't understand why everyone thinks he eventually will be.
  4. Garver is 27 years old and has 863 PA's in the upper minors. I don't understand what's accomplished by sending him back to AAA. If he's not ready now, he never will be.
  5. Or he negotiates a buyout, like Cuddyer did. Which you claim didn't happen, despite evidence posted here that it did.
  6. Slegers would be the only one with a small chance. Absolute best case for Romero is that he opens enough eyes to be in line for a call up after you're guaranteed another year of service time.
  7. Well the posts you are responding to are presuming Hughes wants out. Nobody is suggesting forcing him to do anything. And I was pointing out that the article used the exact language that you tried to specifically say didn't happen.
  8. He had a FIP a full run and a quarter higher than his career FIP.
  9. From the linked article: "Instead, Cuddyer negotiated a modest settlement with the Mets, seeking to retire after a 15-year career that included two All-Star appearances. Neither side revealed details of the pact at the time"
  10. I think the measures you are referring to showed that Rosario has lost speed over the last couple years. One can lose speed and still not yet be considered slow.
  11. While sometimes an issue for 16 year olds, I'm not sure the Rule V is an issue at all for 18 year olds.
  12. I wish they wouldn't even keep track of ST stats. I really hope that they don't even play a tiny role in any decision. This is just for guys to get warmed up for the season, the stats mean absolutely zero, IMO.
  13. First, there are more ways to provide production besides power. Second, Polanco had a 50% higher milb HR rate than Dozier did, and has almost exactly the same mlb home run rate through his first 750 AB's as Dozier did. Dozier's power came even more out of nowhere than Polanco's would have to, so it's actually pretty funny for anyone to make this statement.
  14. About 22% according to Westgate sportsbook.
  15. Hamels k rate plummeted last year. Maybe it's just an aberration, but maybe it's the beginning of a very severe decline. Not sure I'd give up that much to find out.
  16. Westgate sportsbook has them slightly over 50/50 basically. (+140/-160)
  17. Ha, I should have known better than to be hoodwinked by Doogie. That guy is living proof that anyone can live their dream if they just fake it.
  18. That's a completely laughable offer. Yet, we're told it's ridiculous to suggest that they knowingly offered Darvish a contract they knew he wouldn't accept.
  19. Morrison has played a combined 13 games in the outfield the last 5 seasons. I'm guessing Morrison isn't an option out there as anything more than an emergency basis.
  20. Admittedly I'm probably the low man on Odorizzi. Replacement level was my opinion of what Odorizzi will contribute going forward. You are correct that his 3 year average is well above that. Based on the return, it's hard to tell how the league feels about him going forward. The return seems light if you believe he's a 2-3 WAR pitcher, but perhaps TB just really likes Palacios. I have no idea.
  21. Doesn't matter to me if he's not hurt at this exact moment. I don't think he's capable of staying healthy. Just my opinion, but we'll see how it plays out.
  22. Nunez averaged 0.1 bWAR the previous 3 seasons before putting up 1.5 in 4 months before he was traded. Given that Gomez has averaged 1.4 bWAR the last 3 years, he could easily return a similar prospect with a solid start
  23. Well that's fair, but I don't agree. His prorated portion pre trade deadline will only be about 2.5 million, which isn't actually that expensive for a decent but not great prospect. He's averaged 1.4 bWAR the last 3 seasons. If he gets off to a fair start, he should be able to return an Adalberto Mejia level prospect. Even for a frugal team, this isn't a large commitment, IMO.
  24. Just pointing out why a rebuilding team would sign a player like Gomez. Not claiming he's guaranteed to get a good return.
  25. I would (but won't happen) have Mauer leadoff. 1-Mauer 2-Dozier 3-Sano 4-Morrison 5-Buxton 6-Rosario 7-Polanco 8-Kepler 9-Castro
