What a brilliantly managed game! Irvin solid, Hildenberger ok, but gives up tying home run. I was surprised Molly went to Buse at that juncture, but Al was up to it and pitched very well. Then Molly brings in Belisle and he pitches well, leaves him for another innning..and voila Rosario!

So criticize all you want but our manager had close to a perfect game this night!

Ok, I really think he is tied with Berrios.....I cant understand the constant banging of Gibson. Yes he has pitched some terrible gamea but he also has pitched some gems, and has been competitive in other games. Yes he fails about 25% of the time....but do you have a better option? Not only is he the best option the Twins have as middle rotation pitcher.....but he should come back next year as well, Souhan is wrong.

On this subject do you realize how many clunkers Berrios has thrown? What Berrios will show up tonight?

On the subject of Molitor..what else do you want him to do? Two of three years he has the Twins in the playoff hunt, I guess you prefer Gardenhire?

Looks like the Yankees got us again. Unless the AA guy has something to offer.

If Enns can be sucessful in the Majors then I am coming out of Retirement!

We have at least 5 pitchers in the minors that are better than him right now.

Next year the monstrosity of Joe Mauers contract comes to an end. This may leave the Twins with another dilemma. Lets assume for the moment that Joe is back, he is hitting albeit a mid 30s age player hitting, but lets say he finishes similar to where he is now and next year duplicates, do you extend him, and if so, for how much?

In a word, TALENT, no he may never make it, but the Twins will rue the day, they passed on him if he does.

Falvey et al will have no problem justifying the pick but if Wright or The Louisville Slugger...falter, the Twins FO will n

never hear the end of it. The more I read about McKay or Wright, they seem relatively pedestrian compared to the

    Electric Greene.

You rarely have the opportunity to pick #1, The Twins got a hall of famer last time they were in this position, go for

another, this is a rare opportunity, sieze it!

Depends on the return of course, but if they can Package Gordon with any other prospect not named Gonsalves or Romero, they should move him for a Pitcher that has some tread. I am not saying a Rent a Cole....but somebody that might be able to give them 5+ years.

The Twins are suddenly shortstop rich and have Vielma at AAA went 3-3 last night. I think Gordon is good but hardly irreplaceable...and I dont think he is a once in lifetime player like Sano or maybe Kepler, he is a good chip to have in the wallet, see what he will bring

After Kinzlers blown save, I was gonna write urging the Twins to find a real closer, a la Nathan, Perkins.etc

After last night I am rethinking, Kinzler was good...and Ive seen him good before, my question for you, is he a long term solution?

This kid just won the Gatorade Player of the Year

    6 2 LHP that touches 94

He is 10-0 with a 0.20 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 68 1/3 innings this season. At the plate, Gore is hitting a team-best .482 with 17 extra-base hits and 27 RBI.

Who else has won the award?

7: RHP Rick Porcello (West Orange, N.J.)
    2006: LHP/1B Clayton Kershaw (Dallas)
2005: SS/3B Justin Upton (Chesapeake, Va.)
2004: RHP/SS Mark Rogers (Topsham, Maine)
2003: OF Chris Lubanski (Collegeville, Pa.)
2002: RHP/SS Zack Greinke (Apopka, Fla.)

    Remember the name Mackenzie Gore

Could go as high as 3, but most likely in top 10

There are some real intriguing arms in this draft. With Falveys guidance, I think there is a good chance the Twins strike gold in this draft. That said, i want to explain my choice and the one I hope the Twins will make.

There are probably at least five arms to look at and all of them have their different merits. Can we all agree that the Twins will not be in the pennant race next year? If you agree, or even think thats plausible, then I say, go for potential, go for the rare arm as unrefined as it may be, and play for the future superstar

Here is Baseball Americas write up on this very guy:

Julian Fernandez, rhp, Rockies: Asking Fernandez to pitch in the big leagues right now would be like tossing the keys to a new Ferrari to a 16-year-old and telling them take it for a spin around the Nurburgring. Fernandez walked 7.8 batters per nine innings in short-season Boise–he struck out 19 and walked 20 in 23 innings. He’s yet to throw a pitch in full season ball. But Fernandez has a truly special right arm. As a reliever, Fernandez sits at 98-100, touching 102-103 with outstanding life. He doesn’t really have a secondary pitch he can rely on yet and his fastball misses the zone almost as often as it finds it, but a rebuilding team could take a chance on one of the best arms in baseball, sit him on the bench in all but blowout games and hope that a few years from now, they have a dominant reliever.

Its interestng to see a player who could be drafted as a position player or a pitcher....Why dont we draft Greene, play him at 3b/ss and use him as a reliever as well? This would be a great boon to the roster, you wouldnt have to carry an extra pitcher, when you bring him into pitch, you insert your utility infielder....feedback please

Dozier is phenomenal, I would hate to see him go, that said, now is the time to trade him. Here is what I think we could get for him, a potential starting catcher, a close to ready starting pitcher and an A ball throw in, I hate to do it, but Polanco is clearly ready to take over and we can recharge the team with the return.

After watching Sano just drop a pop up that any little leaguer would have caught, it is time for me to comment.

TRUTH Sano is a better outfielder than a 3b, you clamored for a trade of Plouffe, then for Sano to move to 3b, what now brown cow?

IF Sano is ever to play the field, the only position for him is currently occupied....by a horrible contract...

So yes maybe Sano can play the field...but it would have to be at 1b

Dont run from this, I was the only one saying Sano wont be any better at 3rd...admit it...admit you were wrong about Trading Plouffe but even more wrong about SANO and third base....
  13. huhguy
Ok, I was wrong, I thought Dan Gladden was the worst announcer in baseball, but go listen to Palkas first homerun for Rocjester....I will give you some idea...Palka at Plate, kills the ball..announcer, says, this game is going to be tied.. then says ADAM BRETT WALKER (a black right handed hitter) Palka is a white left handed hitter, has tied the game up....I think ok Walker hit a home run earler, then I look at the score and it HAS to be Palka....wow monotone, boring and worse, wrong player, wrong color, wrong side of the plate....worst call in baseball history?

It has to be a candidate...When you listen to Gladden, you have no idea whats happening..ball hit...this going to be off the wall (no excitement in his voice) anyway, Danny, there is one worse than you...believe it or not!
  14. huhguy
I know I am going to get my come comeuppance on this topic. I am impressed with Sano in OF, his instincts speak of playing a skill position for most of his life. Does Sano make mistakes? Bad mistakes? Uh..Yeah he does and has, and wil in the future. His bat justifies his existence in the of.

I know many of you have clamored for him to be at 3B, but he is better in the outfield, if he was at 3b, you would soon be groaning at how over rated he is at a 3b. Trade Plouffe if you want, but Sano is not the answer long term at 3b.
  15. huhguy
Do what it takes to sign this guy....right now..DO NOT LET RYAN et al participate in the draft!

    Candidate: Jason McLeod
Current role: Senior Vice President, Player Development and Amateur Scouting (Cubs)
Skill set: During his tenure with the Cubs, McLeod has played a major role in turning over an organization that was thin on minor-league talent, augmenting the infield talent that was present before his tenure with Kris Bryant and Albert Almora. He also has a keen eye for what can be considered undervalued pitching, as the Cubs have enjoyed pitching success by acquiring "project" arms whose value has increased with the club—most recently Jake Arrieta and Jason Hammel. His resume shows that he has an eye for talent and would be a good fit for a larger role in any front office.

The Twins dont have too many "untouchables" but here is my list based on either consistency or potential.

Catcher - Nobody (I would consider Centeno)
    1B - Park
    2b - Nobody
    3b- Nobody
    SS - Escobar, Nunez
    LF -Nobody
    CF- Buxton
    RF -Sano

    Pitcher - Nobody

Thats a really pathetic evaluation. This shows how poor Ryan and Staff evaluate talent. When you look at this, only two of these were raised Twins, Sano and Buxton. Escobar and Nunez traded for from yankees and chisox.
  17. huhguy
Lets face reality.... The Twins Organization...does not know how to evaluate talent....Thats the number 1-3 problem.

Terry Ryan...(i have been a defender of him in the past) got a lot of credit for the Nathan trade, developing J Santana etc...but who the heck has he drafted? I know, I know..Mauer.but even on Mauer the organization was divided....The problem pure and simple is..the Twins don;t have enough talent....

To be a decent organization, Ryan has to go...and my next move would be to demote Mauer to full time bench...or give him his outright release...he is taking a valuable hitting spot off the table. I was hopeful too about his start but he is receding rapidly into the same average hitting first baseman. Play Park full time and DH Arcia most of the time.

The time is now for a complete revamp! At this point too, let the young pitchers come up and get their ears batted back....
  18. huhguy
watching the Orioles feed (on my computer) Hall of Famer Jim Palmer was quite complimentary of Jose Berrios, among other things he said this, "This kid can pitch," "Berrios has three plus pitches, curve ball, change up and located fastball," he said some other nice things as well, but these are the comments that struck me
  19. huhguy
You would say? More than likely....you would say, they don't have a chance...The Twins young stars...tempted us...made us think....wow here we go...but were we Santanaized? Meaning...they looked great...for a short while..I have been concerned about Sano...since he fell off....hoping...it was the injury....but now not so sure...

I also know Rosario isnt technically a rookie...and I also think Park will be ok..but really the Twins are playing about where they should be....

I was so disappointed in Kepler...he comes to the plate..with the bases loaded..but he was frozen in the headlights ..and looked absolutely over matched ....I know, small sample..but wow...dramatic difference between 2a and MLB?

On the ohter side, who is this Phil Hughes? We will take it!
  20. huhguy
Im finally going to say it.....Twins Daily Coverage of Spring Training Sucks! The story on Max Kepler today illustrates my point exactly. Ok Kepler optioned....why? How did he hit? Did he play good defense?

For those of us who follow the Twins, Kepler had to be one of the most intriguing stories. We barely heard a word. Same is true of our new catcher, yes lately there was some info, but are you like me, and want to look at and examine his stats, maybe even a running total?

For the second straight spring, I am very disappointed in the coverage. I keep hoping it will change but it has been pathetic.

To TD admns, please try to improve your coverage for next year, we have already wasted this year. Ok, shoot the flames, remove the post, I expect the Ostrich effect or Trump effect, attack away!
