  1. That's some really bad baseball from the home team.
  2. Over / under on the number of lazy pop fly's...against a pitcher that had pedestrian numbers in AAA...
  3. That's a shame regarding Lopez. Regardless of what team he's on, you don't like to see stuff like that happen.
  4. The bloom is coming off the Guardians.
  5. Just one of those nights. Twins has Lugo on the ropes early but couldn't the big hit. Hopefully better fortunes tomorrow.
  6. Yeah when Velasquez hit the first one, I thought it was annoying. Now the second time. Don't let him get comfortable in the box.
  7. Not sure if he didn't see it or what, but that was bad...
  8. I've been a Twins fan since 1986 so I know how this one is going to end. Vazquez, for intangibles and leadership, is a luxury that the Twins can't afford so I wouldn't expect him on the roster in 2025, but I'm not going to be happy about it.
  9. You win some, you lose some. Pretty sure Duran was considered a lottery ticket when the Twins acquired him as part of the Escobar trade.
  10. I'm surrounded by Yankee fans and I'm constantly reminded of the Gil for Cave swap.
  11. Fair point and I'm not speaking in absolutes. I just think there's two sides to the Vazquez coin and the Twins might value his leadership more than people think. In terms of how many leaders you need, on this current roster, I don't see too many and that's a problem.
  12. Not necessarily an apples to apples comparison, but... After the Twins won the WS in 1991, they dumped Al Newman for Donnie Hill and gave Pedro Munoz a full-time spot allowing Dan Gladden to leave in free agency. Donnie Hill was a train wreck and didn't even last half a season. Munoz, statistically, was fine but the Twins sorely missed Gladden in the clubhouse. Ditto for Newman. Easy to look at the back of the baseball card and say this guy needs to go, but baseball is a 6 month marathon and the mental part is sometimes just as important as the on-field production. Understood that the Twins' financial situation may preclude them from keeping Vazquez beyond this year, but I wouldn't necessarily be thrilled to see him go.
  13. I'm going to duck after posting this but Vazquez brings intangibles and leadership. His stats are what they are. But we don't know the kind of value he might bring behind the scenes and how important he is for the pitching staff and some of the younger players on the roster. It is fair to say that those intangibles might not justify his salary especially if the Twins are again facing a payroll crunch - but...I would think twice before dumping him.
  14. Toronto is in such a weird spot. A couple of years ago, they were the trendy pick and were thought to be on the verge of controlling the AL East for years to come. The window closed fast and now they have to figure out if they want to be sellers at the deadline. With that said, the Twins aren't trading for Guerrero and I'd be somewhat surprised if the Jays trade him to an AL team.
  15. I get what people are saying regarding the throw being on the first base side but that was to the extreme. Again, nothing against Vazquez. Just think that of the two (Correa, Vazquez), the former made that play what it was. Anyone else at short and that ball's in the outfield.
  16. No shade towards Vazquez. Just didn't look like a great throw. He's a very good defensive catcher, but that one particular play last night, he needed Correa to be great. No harm in it.
  17. Curious if Staumont is available. They might want to be cautious with him, but he only threw 10 pitches last night.
  18. Correa won the game for the Twins, IMHO. Watching that sequence again, the throw from Vazquez was not going to be in time and a decent chance that it goes into the outfield. I can't think of another shortstop that makes that play.
