  1. But which young guys would you have called up from AAA or AA, for either the purpose of getting them experience or winning an extra 2-3 games? I can't think of a single reliever down there that performed well enough to warrant a call-up (Burdi/Reed/Jones?) or who wasn't given a shot (Meyer/Tonkin?), other than perhaps Berrios.
  2. My recollection is that most of the discussions about Polanco have centered on the scouting report's revelations about his arm strength, and about the errors, both as indications that he may fail the test as an every day shortstop. The consensus seemed to be happiness that he was being given a shot. Very civil conversations, with only a handful of opinions (thrylos as I recall) that he is the ss of the future, and lots of doubt that it would work out for him. Hardly any ridiculing and ripping if any at all.
  3. You know what the white stuff is in bird crap, don't you? It's still bird crap.
  4. And crows. Even monkeys know crows. Right Brian?
  5. Cardinals are not found in North Dakota. They require trees.
  6. So there you sit with your bat on your shoulder. A veritable first-pitch Mauer.
  7. Never seen one of these on the ground like the one Sano killed. But in flight, the Altamira Oriole's call is a hoarse, nasal, rising griink. Repeated.
  8. I recommend putting out some Welch's Grape Jelly. And Baltimore Orioles don't chirp. Their song is a rather dulcet series of rich, clear, whistled notes: pidoo tewdi tewdi yewdi tew tidew.
  9. Hey, yeah! And I can see a gazillion of 'em at a time down at the Vikings stadium!
  10. Sorry about the monsoon up there. Kidding. I'm kidding.
  11. jimmer, you need to tell me and my pal mike wants wins what either Smith or Ryan had to do with this other than to heed the advice of the five dozen people sourcing and developing the talent and building the relationships with the international agents.
  12. I fear the only thing callng up Where's Oswaldo would do for us is guarantee us the victory in a pre-game Knucklehead Contest.
  13. Thanks for looking back on your trips to see A-ball, Seth. In looking at the current Kernels roster, I'm struggling to get very excited about players there other than perhaps Gonsalves and Gordon, and even those two don't evoke the kind of optimism for me that guys like Berrios, Polanco or Rosario did. You say they have a lot of talent, and their record shows it, but I'm curious about who you think is emerging as possible MLB regulars in the future outside of those two guys.
  14. Who has a higher ceiling, Kohl Stewart or Tyler Duffey? Now, who gives us a better chance to win right now? Exactly. Duffey gives us a better chance to win right now. No need to parse phrases here.
  15. Again, the truth of the matter is that the FO did NOT say Duffey is better than Berrios, ever. There isn't a person anywhere who believes that. You guys know that. Go ahead and argue that Berrios would have been a better choice, and I might be right there with you. But I'm sorry, to phrase it as if the FO actually SAID Duffey is better than Berrios is a deliberate attempt to shed them in a bad light, and that is getting so tiresome, OK? Why do we have to constantly resort to this kind of comment? It doesn't spur honest discussion, does it?
  16. If you can't throw an inside pitch six inches off the plate without hitting a guy, maybe a guy's standing too close to the plate. Drill 'em.
  17. The something that may not be right at least to a degree is having the opportunity to draft the likes of Cain, Lincecum, Bumgarner, Sale, Verlander. It's not the direct line you'd like to draw.
  18. Burdi's receiving instruction from coaches working at the highest level. Why must we so easily conclude the coaches are at fault when a player struggles? Why would some succeed and others struggle if it was a coaching problem? It's quite conceivable that something appeared to be broken and that they're fixing it, and that Burdi is struggling, perhaps mentally and emotionally more than mechanically, to adjust. Burdi lost control of his emotions and was tossed from his last game. Is that an indication perhaps of a player struggling with himself, or is this also on the coaches? If Burdi adjusts and succeeds, will the Twins still have been wrong in drafting him so high? Glen Perkins struggled too. Were the Twins wrong with him?
  19. Now now now...let's not change it from late summer to the fall!
  20. Are you implying that the Twins are utilizing hope and positivity as their strategy? The positive outlook is the result of the strategy, not the strategy itself. We can criticize individual moves with credibility, but we can't be credible in suggesting they have a hope and a prayer thing going on here. You're a sophisticated fan, and you haven't missed the many positive steps they've taken in this rebuild. The Twins are not ignoring their weaknesses. They're addressing them, albeit imperfectly. We may not like what they do, but let's have some balance here. Might you be the one doing the ignoring?
